Infor VISUAL ERP has proven to be a valuable tool for businesses, offering a range of use cases that address various needs. Users have found VISUAL to be easy to learn and teach compared to other manufacturing programs. It successfully handles the entire production life cycle, including production scheduling, shipping schedule, capacity planning, and analytics. With the ability to schedule and track a large number of concurrent jobs through a multi-work center job shop, VISUAL ERP is highly suitable for companies with heavy workloads and multiple departments.

The software is considered essential for businesses as it provides a comprehensive solution for accounting and manufacturing data management. It has been used to implement full costing of custom configured products in conjunction with a CPQ system, allowing for accurate financial analysis. Additionally, VISUAL ERP has facilitated the implementation of Lean manufacturing principles by mirroring the manufacturing floor. However, it is important to note that success with VISUAL depends on employees' willingness to adjust their processes and procedures to the system, as well as the reliability of the channel partner in setting up and supporting the software.

VISUAL ERP has been recommended as a cost-effective alternative to other ERP systems, offering functionality similar to SAP or AX at a lower cost. Users have reported that the software helps run more efficient factories, reduce raw material inventory, and centralize all records in one location. It has been used effectively for managing purchase orders, financial data, tracking material flow, orders, returns, and customer service. While some users feel that the technology may lag behind and require extensive training and setup, overall VISUAL ERP provides visibility and tracking throughout various processes with evolving features and good security.

Synergy Resources has received praise for their hands-on approach in implementing Infor VISUAL ERP. They tailor the system to fit business models and provide ongoing support for optimal utilization. Companies have found that implementing VISUAL ERP allows them to better manage their supply chain and production needs while ensuring programs stay on schedule and on budget. The software seamlessly links manufacturing capabilities with financial information, aiding in overall efficiency. Visual is being used across the organization by different departments to address various needs, from customer orders and inventory management to financial reporting.

In summary, Infor VISUAL ERP offers a robust solution for managing manufacturing processes, from production scheduling to accounting and financial reporting. It has proven effective in managing the flow of materials in and out of facilities, supporting expansion plans, and improving overall operations. Users have reported positive experiences with its ability to address common challenges in demand planning, job costing, production scheduling, inventory management, and shop floor planning. With its versatility and ongoing support from vendors like Synergy Resources, VISUAL ERP has become an essential tool for businesses aiming to streamline their operations and enhance overall efficiency.

Comprehensive Software Solution: Infor VISUAL integrates finance, scheduling, and engineering seamlessly, making it easy to learn and use. Users appreciate its ability to manage materials and inventory effectively, serving as a comprehensive software solution. Many users find Infor VISUAL's extensive feature set valuable for teaching new users and those familiar with other ERP systems.

Helpful Support and Knowledge Base: Infor support is highly praised by users for their prompt assistance in addressing questions. They rely on Infor VISUAL as an ERP and management platform that efficiently manages material flow and inventory. Some mention a longer learning curve for younger employees due to the absence of a graphical user interface.

Ease of Use and Report Exporting: Users find Infor VISUAL intuitive to navigate, with the ability to export reports into Excel format for further analysis. The partnership with Synergy Resources during system upgrades garners satisfaction from users who praise the team's expertise in making quick modifications. They credit this collaboration for the seamless transition to an operational upgraded ERP system.

Cons:

  1. Difficult to use and configure: Many users have expressed frustration with the software's user interface, menus, and toolbars, stating that they are not intuitive and do not follow standard conventions. The implementation process is also described as lengthy and complicated.
  2. Lack of training tools: Several reviewers have mentioned the limited availability of training resources for the software, making it difficult for new users to get up to speed quickly. This has resulted in a steep learning curve for many customers.
  3. Reporting limitations: Users have criticized the weak reporting capabilities of the software, mentioning issues such as archaic reporting methods and difficulties in generating finance-friendly reports directly from the system. Although exporting to Excel and using external reporting suites like Smart Views can improve flexibility, there is still room for improvement in this area.

Users have made several recommendations based on their experiences with Infor Visual. The three most common recommendations are:

  1. Thoroughly review before making a decision: Many users suggest that a new company should carefully evaluate Infor Visual with experienced personnel before adopting it. This involves conducting a thorough analysis of the system's capabilities and ensuring that it meets the basic needs of all functions within the organization.

  2. Utilize test environment and ODBC connections: Users recommend utilizing a test environment and establishing ODBC connections for easy access to data. By setting up a test environment, users can assess the system's performance and functionality without impacting live operations. This allows them to identify any potential issues before implementing the system fully.

  3. Improve graphics user interface and ease of data entry: Some users express a desire for improvements in the graphics user interface (GUI) and ease of data entry in Infor Visual. They believe that enhancing the GUI will make the system more visually appealing and user-friendly. Additionally, streamlining data entry processes would improve efficiency and reduce the likelihood of errors.

Overall, these recommendations suggest that companies should thoroughly evaluate Infor Visual with experienced personnel, utilize test environments for testing purposes, and consider improvements to the GUI and data entry processes for a better user experience.

VISUAL is being used across the whole organization. We operate in a job shop environment. Sales inputs customer orders and unit BOMs. As an actual cost environment, we will track labor and material used against specific jobs in operations. Supply chain manages inventory, and finance will run financial reporting from the database.
  • Part/BOM libraries
  • Traceability from customer order to work order
  • Job status representation
  • Click through is not intuitive and often takes multiple clicks/open windows to get information on the availability of a specific part
  • Infor operates on proposed availability rather than actual. If a work order is late to the due date, Infor still treats the material as if it is available
  • Engineering changes are cumbersome. Manual changes required of parts and assemblies in your library
I struggle to identify a scenario where VISUAL is an appropriate solution. We used VISUAL because it was a legacy system and the cost/complexity of changeover seemed daunting. The user interface is poor as is the interconnectedness of the various screens and menus. This might be an acceptable piece of software for a continuous manufacturing environment with little variation of basic design, but we have had to write multiple add-on macros in order to get VISUAL to work effectively for us.

  • On the positive side, we are able to track actual cost of products to make educated product strategy decisions based on profitability.
  • On the negative side, we have required a lot of outside support to write macros and outside reports in order to get valuable data. Additionally, we have struggled to get 3rd party software to communicate effectively with VISUAL to support transportation/logistics, product configuration, labor tracking, etc.
We unfortunately did not evaluate any other ERP software. VISUAL was a legacy system and we determined that changing systems would be too difficult, and not cost effective. We reached out to our local VISUAL rep who knew how the software functioned, but not how to apply it more appropriately to our business model, so we continued on with what we had rather than looking elsewhere.

Infor Visual was selected as as an enterprise wide tool for accounting, MRP, manufacturing process control, and inventory control for US operations. It was selected as a Y2K solution to the home-grown MRP system used at that time. The software helped the design of process control for business and manufacturing, document control for BOM design and changes as well as business information for labor and material costing to develop costing models for sales. The quality control modules were not used.
  • Infor Visual has a standard way of addressing business operations: sales orders, invoicing, reporting. It is easy to train operators used to using a manual or other ERP system.
  • Material control is easy for production runs, R&D material lists and repairs. The process of receiving, issuing and returning material to inventory is facilitated by standard interfaces that are easily learned by material control operators.
  • Engineering changes to bills of material are facilitated by the "engineering Master" flexible editing capability. The version control for the BOM's can be as detailed or vague as the process designed dictates. One item of a BOM or the entire BOM can be changed quickly and approved for production that day.
  • At times a "shadow part" is necessary in the manufacturing process. This shadow part does not require an inventory transaction but is made a as a separate process - sometimes out of sequence to the general process flow. Infor Visual ver 6.3.5 does not have that capability.
  • When generating forms for business and manufacturing operations Infor Visual ver 6.3.5 has a limited number of options. To change or add forms requires an unsupported editor. When the stock and custom options are depleted an outside programming module is required as well as programmers to develop the forms.
  • While free software upgrades to the main operations modules have been part of the maintenance agreement. One upgrade required database and hardware support not justifiable for the current business model. The system was frozen at the current version at that time.
  • There is no easy way to differentiate between engineering documentation and production documentation.
The original version of Visual Manufacturing (Lilly Software) was intended for mechanical manufacturing. It was adapted at our facility (we were not the first) to accomodate electronic manufacturing. For electronic manufacturing process control it is not ideal when referencing in-line or custom processes used to build product. For material control it is excellent unless a modification to a standard product is required (and we did this on 60% of product going out the door). The co-product feature that removes material from an assembly requires the creator of the work order to calculate the percentage of cost the removed items are from the completed product.
On the business operations side regional tax reports were difficult to extract and an external module to go into the data base and extract that had to be created.

The system itself was stable for the most part. Occasional "data collisions" corrupted transactions at times. The accounting procedures in place found them by the end of the month .where they were corrected.
For a small business with less formal processes Infor Visual can be used with little training for the operators. If the processes need a higher level of accountability and control the processes can be formalized with workflow scripts to ensure that higher level of control.

  • I cannot comment on business impact.
SAP Business One was selected for the China Division for cost and ease of training reasons. It does not have the capabilities required for the main office accounting or product engineering. It also was not available at the time of Visual Manufacturing selection.
Epicor Eclipse was not available at the time of Visual Manufacturing selection. It has many if the features lacking in Infor Visual and integrates better with SalesForce.com CRM. Epicor is one of the upgrade systems that are being considered.
SAP ERP is a large piece of software that requires long planning, implementation and training cycles. Its complexity requires a large support contingent even in a cloud implementation.

Visual 8.0 & VTA Review.

We have been using the Visual Time & Attendance (VTA) module for approximately a year now. We are in the middle of our implementation into Visual 8.0 across the whole organization.

Visual 8.0 will be used enterprise wide. We merged with a larger company 14 months ago and we are now in the process of combining systems into Visual. It will handle our accounting systems and scheduling.
  • Visual provides a one-stop shop for our organization.
  • VTA has been extremely unreliable. I would not recommend it. It is not customizable at all. There is no logical way to handle shift differentials which is a huge issue with a company that runs 24/7.
  • If you do not have a schedule set up, they cannot clock in. This poses a problem for anyone that gets called in on a shift they don't normally work on.
I would ask about the customization features and the costs associated with getting the system to actually work the way you need it to.

  • Will increase efficiency, will streamline our processes, especially in Customer Service and Scheduling.
VTA doesn't even come close to Ascentis in the realm of timekeeping.

Top to bottom - the whole organization will be using Infor Visual from our operators entering their part counts and times to the CFO getting financials.

IT support group
  • Scheduling/inventory management
  • Order processing and bidding
  • Accounting
It is unlikely that we would spend the money and time it takes to make a switch again in the near future.
  • Vendor implemented
No
Change management was a big part of the implementation and was well-handled
It is hard to teach an old dog new tricks. The new systems are very intimidating for our more tenured employees.
  • Getting down into the nitty gritty of what we need to have happen compared to what we are doing now.
Could have used more hands-on approach. There are multiple webinars and information sessions but until you actually use the system, these are not very helpful.
No
Our company expects our IT team to handle the VTA system due to the costs for support. They are not qualified to do this and makes things more difficult than need be.
Costly
No
Not at all. I haven't even tried.

  • Finding the correct module is confusing. The user interface is not very user friendly.
  • The layout of the screens are confusing.
If you are not very computer literate, this is a difficult system to learn.

INFOR ERP was used by Finance, Sales, and Operations groups.Application was used to address problems with demand planning, job costing, production scheduling, inventory management, and shop floor planning. INFOR ERP was also used to convert financials from QuickBooks. It is also used for Sales Order Creation and Tracking for domestic and international orders.
  • User Friendly
  • Good technical support
  • Reasonably priced
  • Good Customer Support for Implementation
  • Improved handling for alternates in Bill of Materials
  • Improved financial reporting capability
  • Improved GUI functionality

High Level of functionality in Manufacturing Execution and Shop Floor Planning.

Needs improvement with Financial Budgeting module.

Financial Reporting Capability such as Consolidated Reports and Cash Flow Analysis.

Improvement with Ad Hoc Reporting functionality

  • Improved response for customer inquiries and price quotation generation
  • Improved Inventory Accuracy from 91% to 96%
  • Reduced order cycle time (Order to Cash) by 10%
In Vendor/Application Selection INFOR ERP rated high in Production Capability and Shop Floor Management. INFOR ERP was weaker in financials. INFOR ERP appears to be strong for retail and order (pick/pack/ship) fulfillment operations. INFOR ERP Management offered aggressive pricing and was willing to be flexible for other software and implementation costs.

Good Technical and Customer Support during and after implementation tasks.

Good Project Plan and Management support for implementation and post implementation.

Financial functionality could be more comprehensive particularly with Budgeting and Cash Management.

Inventory Management capability was adequate but could be more comprehensive as well.

"Out of the Box" functionality was adequate but requested add-ons and enhancements seemed to be a bit pricey.
