SolarWinds ipMonitor is simple to administer and has a significant effect on the organization. It is simple to monitor the various IP addresses found inside the organization, and there is no need to do any kind of manual inspection. This tool is a game-changer for the IT sector. Downtime caused by failures may be mitigated using this solution's automatic remediation to restore services, which might include restarting servers, restoring files, and more.
  • Both network devices and servers may be easily located on the network.
  • It notifies the user whenever any network device undergoes a change in status.
  • Powerful reporting capabilities that provide vital data about your network's devices (uptime, space, utilization of resources on your devices)
  • This is a complex system that requires extensive testing and verification prior to deployment.
  • It is little costly as compared to other software's.
The best, most convenient way to explore and obtain information for certain demographics is via a user interface. The SolarWinds ipmonitor interface is simple and sophisticated all at once. Everything you need is conveniently shown in one place. It was rather cheap. Additionally, it needs some additional functionality. Otherwise, It is the perfect software for enterprises.

SolarWinds ipMonitor is used at the level of the entire infrastructure of our business network. It helps us to carry out the monitoring of each of our network devices, servers, and applications, which facilitates us to observe their performance and to be able to find where, how and when critical problems occur in our network. Its interface is simple and very easy to use and gives the advantage of being able to view, from a single console, the status of the entire infrastructure that is monitored 24/7. We not only observe performance but also we are aware of any device that wishes to harm the network.
  • Monitors the entire infrastructure 24/7, which facilitates the vision of any unknown device that wishes to enter the network
  • Send alerts immediately upon detection of a status change in network devices.
  • It allows to visualize the performance from a single console of each device, server and applications
  • It is very easy to use and implement
  • It is a very complete and versatile software, but its price can be somewhat high for small companies.
  • During the analysis of the collected data the process can be somewhat slow, so it takes more time than expected.
  • Its configuration process can be somewhat complex since it requires several configurations so having prior knowledge is helpful.
  • It is ideal to carry out the monitoring of the devices, servers and applications that are managed at the level of the business infrastructure, because it keeps them under supervision and alerts [us] to any change or the presence of the entry of an unknown device so that it does not their performance is affected.
  • It provides effective monitoring and provides high visibility of each of the devices and applications from a single console, making it ideal for observing where a problem comes from.
  • Its reports are very detailed so they are of great help to obtain critical information about each device, server or application.

We're using SolarWinds ipMonitor, in addition to other SolarWinds modules such as Application monitor and Network Performance monitor, since 2017 as our global solution for monitoring.
It's been used to monitor connectivity status (response to ping, usage, availability) of thousands of network equipment and servers from all our sites in more than 40 countries. It's also configured to alert the proper technicians/analysts/teams responsible for each equipment.
  • Monitoring/alerting.
  • Reporting/dashboards.
  • Ping and service monitor.
  • Equipment discovery.
  • Could have a more friendly user interface (SLW platform is very complex in general speaking).
  • Alerts could be more flexible and easy to configure.
It does a pretty decent job when it comes to monitoring. It is able to monitor a wide range of protocols/services (ICMP, HTTP, HTTPS, SMTP) and it has a good set of configurations for alerting. Of course, there are some 'more-flexible' tools and easier to manage, but SolarWinds ipMon is also a good choice.

We are using it within the IT office to monitor uptime of equipment and services. This has significantly helped to improve uptime and response time as needed. We are very happy with the product and would recommend it. I am sure there are other products that have more bells and whistles but SolarWinds ipMonitor does more than people think.
  • Ping monitor.
  • Service monitor.
  • Reporting. It makes it so much easier for board reports on uptime.
  • More complex monitoring.
  • Could be a touch easier to manage.
Good for monitoring pings, SMTP, HTTP, HTTPS. The ping monitor has been critical for business operations. We can figure out very quickly if a building or floor is down. After ping, being able to monitor certain services has been helpful with different systems and deliverables for the IT team. Reporting is simple to configure and use effectively.

We use ipMonitor in our platform and infrastructure teams almost exclusively, though other users are able to view the data when needed. We use the application to alert for unresponsive services, the F5 pool status, if a server can ping, and the various other ways that a system or server can fail and that make sense to monitor.
  • A good place to look for an overall feel of how all systems are performing or if the alerts are configured correctly.
  • Integrations with API services such as Pager Duty as well as SMS messaging.
  • Somewhat clunky and painful to set up.
  • Not very intuitive in terms of how to configure new alerts.
  • Limitations on what can be monitored based on an agent-less configuration.
Checking to see if a service is responding or a specific port is available on servers is the best case where I see ipMonitor working well. In most cases, though, it is limited to a simple up or down situation without a lot of ability to customize an alert or the condition of an alert.

ipmonitor is geared towards smaller environments. It's a great alternative product if you need additional monitoring on certain environments, which might fall outside your core monitoring platforms. We already use a lot of the SolarWinds products across the organization. We needed to monitor some DEV environments that we didn't place under our main monitoring umbrella.
  • Really easy to setup and configure
  • No learning curve
  • Simple alerting system with no complex rules
  • It's basic at best in terms of advanced features, but it's geared towards this so that is no surprise.
  • Its also free so you can't really complain much.
If you do small tests of DEV environments, then IPmonitor is a great solution. It is not suitable for large enterprise environments as the features and detail are simply not heavy enough to provide a full picture.

Department level. Monitoring about 80 servers. Configured to monitor ping, selected services start/stop, CPU and RAM levels, notify engineers of trouble or impending trouble.
  • Monitoring of server basic status items like ping, memory and CPU levels. Configuring alerts based on event log event IDs. If you don't need the advanced features of some other monitoring systems, ipMonitor is much simpler to configure and use.
  • Configuration is simple and easy, menus are clear and simple to follow. Alerting is straightforward to configure also.
  • Switched to Idera because of a need in the department for more advanced features such as triggering scripts for certain events. The downside is it is much more complex to configure and use.
For basic monitoring, ipMonitor is easy to configure and use. At the simpler end of the scale, I would highly recommend it. If you have a need for more advanced features and complexity like triggering scripts in response to events then another product might be required.
