While some customers may not heavily utilize ipMonitor, they appreciate its significant impact on their organization and consider it a game-changer in the IT sector. The tool's automatic remediation feature helps mitigate downtime caused by failures.

ipMonitor excels in monitoring EC2 instances on Amazon, providing highly responsive resource monitoring. It offers basic network and system monitoring functionalities that prove invaluable for small to medium networks, particularly in IT departments. Troubleshooting network and system problems becomes more efficient with ipMonitor, although it does not offer the same extensive functionalities as SolarWinds NPM. Over the past decade, the tool has provided users with visibility and reporting capabilities for network projects. It serves as both a local monitoring solution and complements the Orion Network Performance Monitor. For IT departments seeking to oversee the status of network devices and minimize response time, ipMonitor saves time by providing automated monitoring similar to a NOC.

IT professionals rely on SolarWinds ipMonitor to monitor servers, services, and devices via SNMP and Ping protocols. The tool ensures server performance by tracking essential aspects such as ping response, resource usage, and service availability. In addition to observing performance, ipMonitor excels in detecting critical problems throughout the entire infrastructure of a business network. With its scalability and variety of tools and features, ipMonitor is utilized in PROD/DEV environments to manage IP addresses, DNS zones, VLAN zones, alert unresponsive services, and identify system failures.

The simplicity of setting up and configuring ipMonitor makes it an affordable choice for small and medium businesses. Users appreciate the product's simplicity and the support provided by SolarWinds. The ability to display system sensors on a wall TV screen improves uptime and response time, further enhancing operational efficiency. Data centers also leverage ipMonitor to ensure the operational status of critical services and servers. Finally, SolarWinds ipMonitor is used to analyze network traffic flow for switches in various technology departments, providing valuable insights into network performance.

Comprehensive Network Monitoring: Many users have praised ipMonitor for its comprehensive network monitoring capabilities. They mentioned that the software can monitor network flow with great detail and accuracy, providing valuable insights into network performance.

Vendor-Agnostic Compatibility: Several reviewers highlighted ipMonitor's compatibility with all vendors. They appreciated that the software can work with different network devices and vendors, allowing for centralized monitoring of the entire network using a single application.

Efficient Log Analysis: Users have found ipMonitor's log file capture and analysis to be quick and accurate. This feature enables efficient troubleshooting and identification of network issues, enhancing the overall performance of the system.

Outdated and unintuitive UI: Several users have mentioned that the product's user interface is outdated and not intuitive, causing difficulties in navigating through the software. They have found it challenging to use due to its lack of modern design elements and user-friendly features.

Slow scan times: Users have reported that scans in the product can sometimes take a very long time, resulting in delays when trying to complete tasks. This issue has been highlighted by multiple reviewers who emphasize the need for improved scanning performance to enhance productivity.

  • Both network devices and servers may be easily located on the network.
  • It notifies the user whenever any network device undergoes a change in status.
  • Powerful reporting capabilities that provide vital data about your network's devices (uptime, space, utilization of resources on your devices)
  • This is a complex system that requires extensive testing and verification prior to deployment.
  • It is little costly as compared to other software's.
The best, most convenient way to explore and obtain information for certain demographics is via a user interface. The SolarWinds ipmonitor interface is simple and sophisticated all at once. Everything you need is conveniently shown in one place. It was rather cheap. Additionally, it needs some additional functionality. Otherwise, It is the perfect software for enterprises.

We have deployed all our EC2 instances on Amazon and ipMonitor was used to monitor all the instances. ipMonitor is a very responsive tool in terms of monitoring your resources. We had in-house and cloud-based resources which were monitored through ipMonitor and the best part was the responsiveness. We were monitoring the server health checks with storage and resources usage through ipMonitor.

  • SNMP configuration needs to be more simple
ipMonitor is well suited if you only want to monitor the server health, website responses, and applications health. ipMonitor serves you well in case you do not want to install agents in client machines as this will communicate through the SNMP port. In case, you need to customize the monitoring tool, you cannot perform it with ipMonitor. Adding host in ipMonitor may be a little tricky.
  • Cloud monitoring
  • Can be used to monitor on-prem servers as well

  • Cost was much higher than the services
  • ipMonitor was well suited but the costing factor wasn't justified as there are tons of open-source tools available in the market with more functionalities
  • Alerts response was very good and ipMonitor served well with health checks.
We were trying to evaluate different providers and ipMonitor suited us because we had on-prem and cloud instances and management decided to check the paid tool. The ipMonitor is a very responsive tool and it served the purpose well but as IT is evolving and needs are changing, we discontinued the ipMonitor and shifted to Zabbix due to the customization which was the need at the time.
