What is Ivanti Neurons for MDM?

MobileIron, acquired by Ivanti, supports enterprise security with a mobile-centric security platform for the Everywhere Enterprise. In the Everywhere Enterprise, corporate data flows freely across devices and servers in the cloud, empowering workers to be productive anywhere they need to work. To secure access and protect data across this perimeter-less enterprise, MobileIron leverages a zero trust approach, which assumes bad actors are already in the network and secure access is determined by a “never trust, always verify” model.

MobileIron’s platform combines unified endpoint management (UEM) capabilities with passwordless MFA (Zero Sign-On) and mobile threat defense (MTD) to validate the device, establish user context, verify the network, and detect and remediate threats to ensure that only authorized users, devices, apps, and services can access business resources in a “work from everywhere” world. The vendor states that over 20,000 organizations, including the world’s largest financial institutions, intelligence agencies, and other highly regulated companies, have chosen MobileIron to enable a seamless and secure user experience in the Everywhere Enterprise.

MobileIron has become the go-to solution for over 300 organizations seeking to effectively manage and control their mobile devices for business use. Users have found that it tackles a wide range of challenges, including compliance, security, deployment, and administration. One of its main strengths lies in its ability to deploy line of business apps as well as third-party apps to all devices, ensuring both device security and the deployment of required applications. This feature has been highly valued by organizations managing fleets of iPads and other mobile devices globally. Furthermore, MobileIron assists with better control over access, security, compliance, inventory, policies, and enrollment by providing remote management capabilities and facilitating document pushes and application installations from a single point. These functionalities are particularly beneficial for pilots, aircrew members, sales teams, field support personnel, and other mobile-focused workforces who require secure government data handling or easy management of operational devices. Across various industries, MobileIron has proven itself as a reliable tool for managing mobile devices' applications, security policies, provisioning across multiple countries, and adhering to NIST standards for security and compliance. It has successfully provided secure access to corporate email, calendars, custom-built applications on mobile devices across multiple offices while maintaining password controls and synchronizing contacts and calendars with Lotus Notes on BYOD phones. As businesses increasingly adopt BYOD policies or manage mixed fleets of managed devices and BYOD scenarios, MobileIron provides features like kiosk mode integration with Android Enterprise to overcome associated challenges. It ensures the safe handling of data and attachments while preventing unauthorized sharing and enables convenient distribution of applications company-wide. The software's asset tracking capabilities have been commended for helping organizations keep tabs on phone numbers, installed apps, and the overall security status of their devices. Not only does MobileIron excel at securing company cell phones but it also efficiently manages user access to business resources while ensuring encryption for emails. This level of device management is crucial when securing company-issued smartphones or managing mobile phones and iPads across an entire organization. MobileIron is trusted by hospitals and colleges to guarantee compliance with HIPAA regulations and provide secure access to email and internal mobile apps, streamlining registration processes with its dedicated support team. Additionally, it serves as a valuable MDM tool for organizations looking to develop and maintain their enterprise mobile applications securely. With a primary focus on providing enhanced security for mobile devices and maintaining secure connections with company servers, MobileIron has been successfully implemented in various industries, adding an extra layer of protection for mission-critical data.

  • Microsoft Endpoint Manager (Microsoft Intune + SCCM)
The main reason why we went with Mobileiron is [that] it was the cheaper option, but it was also extremely convenient that AT&T and Mobileiron had partnered in order to give us devices that already have Mobileiron provisioned onto them, leaving a lot less work for the IT staff on our end.

MobileIron is highly competitive against VMWare Airwatch. Although basic functionalities are quite the same MobileIron fits a little bit better to our business needs. This also implements a transparent license model with different packages (i. e. silver, gold etc.). We decided for the silver licenses which deliver a lot of useful functions.

MobileIron was a better fit for our size organization. The MS office 365 tools become available with a higher tier of license than the one we own. So for a small deployment MobileIron was the better fit. If we were to scale up our Office 365 deployment and licenses then we would like consolidate our secure email services through them.

The other benefit is mobile device management which O365 does not appear to offer, so MobileIron allows that level of management control.

I have experience with AirWatch and Intune. The UI of MobileIron greatly outshines these two alternatives. Though the features of securing our iDevices are the same, the way MobileIron allows me to implement these configurations makes it stand out above the competition. We are currently evaluating Intune and the interface is extremely convoluted and difficult to navigate compared to MobileIron's.

Jamf is a great platform but does not offer the wide range of integrations. It feels like an Apple-centric product, and it is. Airwatch was pricier and did not offer enough compelling advantages when feature sets were compared, so it was hard to justify the additional cost. MobileIron has proven to be a wise investment because of their continued focus on information security, and the platform can be extended to our Macs and Windows 10 devices.

MobileIron has more features and capabilities than other MDM systems I've been exposed to in the past. My expectation is that, like all enterprise software, features and vendors will converge and create parity. MobileIron is the North Star for that convergence as they have all the features that you need already in the box.

MI has been the more stable platform and that has really come more and more under investigation for us we try to ascertain which service to use. The built-in apps and services that MI provides have been extremely useful and more reliable than anything that Intune has provided us.

I can only compare with Intune Free which is not a very good comparison as it's the equivalent of ActiveSync in Exchange. From what I've seen of Intune Full, MobileIron is more user-friendly in managing policies and pushing custom application configuration.

We have used Cisco Meraki, it shows location, we can push security policies, unlock/lock the device remotely, but can not push email or do a selective wipe, need to buy licenses for the paid version. Miradore Online used for BYOD smartphones, we can push email, security policies can do selective wipe like remove Exchange account only, but can not see location. But neither can push apps to devices and we have chosen MobileIron as it is less expensive and has more features

I started with MobileIron so I feel as though I'm a bit biased towards them. I really like Jamf also, however they are best for environments that deal specifically with Apple products, where MobileIron can support any and all devices. AirWatch is easier on the eyes and usability, but I feel as though MobileIron has better reporting capabilities.

We've evaluated a number of other MDM solutions before finally deciding on MobileIron as our choice. These included AirWatch, Good, Citrix and IBM. None came close to the cost price point offered by MobileIron providing the same solutions. The initial setup/configuration was provided for free and training classes were exceptional. Other vendors did not offer the same level of support provided by MobileIron.

We ended up forgoing on XenMobile as we had already been using MobileIron for several years and the time it would take to setup all new devices in a new system would have costed more than what it was worth. In the end, we are happy with our decision as MobileIron has come a long way with updates.

MobileIron has been a leader in MDM solutions and was chosen as the most functional solution at the time it was purchased. We have put 1000+ users on Intune as a pilot since it is much less expensive. Intune is less mature than MobileIron and missing its own tunneled-browser/VPN solution, but competitive for basic needs.

In the past the corporation has used other MDM packages, and has evaluated others. However we look for a high degree of security, and also that the functions be equivalent on both iOS and android platforms. Other packages missed forms of security or supported only one platform. There are plans for features that likely we could only do through working with MobileIron apps.

Workspace ONE (formerly AirWatch) is currently the biggest competitor for MobileIron. There are some functionalities in Workspace ONE that might not be present in MobileIron and vice versa. Also, if you are considering purchasing the EMM product, Microsoft Intune should be included in the list with the others especially if you need to secure the data in Microsoft mobile applications.

I joined the company when this system was not in use anymore. I have heard from other admins that it was too simple and required a parallel platform to cover the functionalities that Symantec would not. From my point of view, MobileIron has a broader coverage range of device features that can be managed.
