Users benefit from improved support capabilities and better response to vulnerability attacks. The software enables efficient remote deployment of software/images, troubleshooting, and quick management of thousands of computers across different locations. Additionally, it provides additional functionality for asset management, reporting, and system administration. While some users have mentioned the higher cost and learning curve involved in ticketing conventions, overall, Ivanti Unified Endpoint Manager proves effective for managing assets, distributing software, standardizing imaging, and enhancing security measures.

Ivanti Endpoint Manager is our global solution for inventory, patch management, and software distribution. We also perform remote support activities and are ramping up a central provisioning strategy. Ivanti also ties in to our data warehouse solution and our asset management solution, feeding both with vital information to keep reports and device records up to date.
  • Patch management. You can devise multiple patch strategies, automate patching, and really drive your environment to a secure posture.
  • Software distribution. There are multiple avenues to take when it comes to distributing software, and Ivanti can support many of them. Their interface makes it easy to build packages, and using their distribution methodology, it is efficient in performing rapid mass deployments.
  • Device inventory. Out of the box, Ivanti gathers a lot of information on a device and you can report on nearly anything you want. They also have mechanisms in place to gather additional information from clients that are not standard, enhancing reporting capabilities and allowing you to provide useful data to your customers.
  • Patch reporting. Ivanti is still largely user and device centric when it comes to reports. Reporting on patches is still lacking out of the box. Through other tools, we can take the patch data and build the necessary reports, but we should be able to do this with Ivanti natively.
  • Documentation. While it has improved, Ivanti is still behind on documentation for their products, especially the smaller add-ons to the main suites. Their employees are willing to help teach on different aspects of the product, but a lot of this information should already be included in documentation.
If you are looking for a complete solution to manage and secure your endpoints, Ivanti is the way to go. Especially great in environments that have multiple sites and are global. If you have a small site (< 20 devices), the cost may not be justified depending on your needs. But for sites with a few hundred devices or more, this is a great arrow in your quiver of solutions to managing your IT needs.
  • Ivanti is allowing us to accomplish more standardization and support as we centralize all IT functions and develop true global standards. Without Ivanti, we would have to use multiple tools and would not be as far along in our project as we currently are.
Both solutions will effectively manage Microsoft patches to devices, but Ivanti goes the extra step. With Ivanti, we can manage third party patches, where SCCM would require a third party solution (like Ivanti, who a lot of SCCM customers use for third party). Ivanti also gives us better capabilities for software deployment, device inventory, and device support. Additionally, we have a small handful of non-Windows devices (Apple, Linux) that we can manage through Ivanti. It is a one stop shop vs. the alternative.

Various IT administrative levels, from your tier 1 service desk representative to the more advanced user site support teams, to enterprise IT level employees. Managers have access to reports. Specialty teams that need specific functions are granted that level of access, so they cannot affect the rest of the organization. There is a lot of flexibility in who we grant access to and what they can do.

Most of my teammates have a working knowledge of Ivanti. They have had some formal training, and understand how to perform the administrative functions when needed. Ivanti has structured itself so even the most novice person can use it. Obviously, the more you use it, the more skills you acquire and more functions you can perform.

We are happy with the results we are getting from our investment. We have formed a good partnership with Ivanti and believe they give us the best opportunity to succeed in our goals.
Yes
Various. My direct replacement was BigFix. We have also replaced SCCM in some of our other groups. We decided to standardize on a solution for patching and device management, and Ivanti was chosen as the best product that met our needs.

Prior experience played an important role. Some of our groups had already been using the product and were able to demonstrate the benefits of it over the other potential solutions.
Would not change our process. We know the components and features we need to make our company IT successful, and we evaluate to those standards. It is a fair process and ges us to the best fit for our organization.
For most common issues, Ivanti has good support. We also have a TSM who we can reach out to at any time when we are having issues, and they are a good resource and work well to get us answers and solutions. A number of our issues end up having to go to higher levels of support,a nd that can be hit or miss depending on the team. Also, support only available in the US at those higher levels; our AP and EMA teams are stuck with the lower levels and get delays interaction with the higher levels.
Why are you asking about Oracle Linux when this is an Ivanti review?
Yes
Sometimes. Some bugs are easy for them to fix and get included in the next service update. Others take some time and could be multiple releases before it is fixed. We do have a handful of issues that have been outstanding for years, they are not a priority for Ivanti as the company shifts products and vision.
We were having scanning issues, and nobody could figure out what was happening. Our TSM couldn't find a solution, and the PSE level of support was also at a loss. We finally connected with a lead developer, and he joined us for a series of calls. On some of the calls, he was writing code on the fly to help us identify where the problems were and give his team better logging to track down the issues. Much of this code ended up being introduced back into the product at a future update, and he helped us get our systems working properly again.
Items are logically laid out and most are easy to find. The more advanced stuff can be trickier, but it is still not hard to find. There are a lot of options though, so remembering where some settings are, especially if you do not alter them often, can take a minute, but you will get to them fairly qiickly.

We use Ivanti EPM across the entire corporate office and stores. This helps us with patch management, antivirus, and asset information. With EPM we are better able to report and respond to vulnerability attacks and ensure that our devices are protected and functioning properly. EPM also solves an issue with our remote support. Our brick and mortar stores are difficult to access with normal Windows methods because of our network NATing. Having an EPM agent solves this problem and improves our support capabilities.
  • Ivanti EPM handles remote control extremely well in the 2018 release. The new from scratch 'Remote Control Web Services' is far more reliable and withstands some pretty malformed network infrastructures. As long as the device has minimal internet or intranet access, you can reach it.
  • Apple MacOS support is growing slowly but surely. It is comforting to see the time and effort going into the Ivanti EPM product for a type of device that is becoming more prevalent in the business world.
  • Ivanti handles vulnerabilities very seriously. For example, the Spectre and WannaCry problems were almost a non-event for us because we had our automated patching implemented. We are able to successfully have a test, beta, and prod deployment style for patching to ensure that the base OS, as well as our specific applications, do not encounter serious issues when patched. Then, on the other hand, we are not behind on updates and open to vulnerabilities.
  • The product's vast use cases and robustness can be its downfall as well in some sense. It can certainly be overwhelming, and in my opinion, requires some form of technical support contract to make sure your questions are answered quickly and tailored to your environment.
  • Antivirus has been a struggle with Ivanti EPM with various changes in the industry around Kaspersky and I hope things are settling down soon. It's currently unclear how and when more and more features of their current AV offering will be implemented. It is bare-bones for now after having to start over with leaving Kaspersky behind.
  • Because the word 'endpoint' has so many meanings, there are a ton of features in the Ivanti EPM product. Some of them are not the best at what they do and are simply there to get the job done. It would be great to see some functionality sync across their product family.
It is well suited for retail because of the decentralized nature of the endpoints. I think it would be well worth any environment that sees personal devices on corporate networks for the base agent with AV reasons. It is probably not best for small establishments that would not exceed 200 devices overall unless patch management is a real pain point.
  • The biggest impact is that we have not been subject to any Ransomware attacks because of the patched devices.
I think that the Ivanti EPM method of collecting inventory data is much more useful that the other products. The way that queries and scopes can be generated and then used across the board in all of the features makes for very dynamic use cases.
VMware ESXi, Zendesk, Microsoft 365 (formerly Office 365)
While we have about 20 people using the console for support purposes, our agent touches thousands of devices and our users have been trained to respond to our reboot prompts, patch notices, software self-service and other EPM features. The methods for branding all of these different components is very helpful in building employee and user trust. The customization options allow us to handle departments, functional groups or even subsidiary companies uniquely to their needs.
2
We heavily rely on Ivanti support and the Technical Relationship Manager contract to make our support lightweight and heavily automated. The technical skills are not as important and can be learned as you roll out new features. The mindset is more important. You need to have someone who can maintain consistency and a ruleset established by your company. There are many many options in EPM and it can be overwhelming unless your admin team can hold to the rules and apply them consistently across your business.
  • Remote control
  • Patch automation
  • Software distribution
  • End user self service for patch and software, if desired
  • Device inventory and endpoint discovery
  • The Cloud Service Appliance is an add-on that has allowed us to seamlessly transition to a work from home support structure and can even support unmanaged or personal devices without an agent
  • The self service options allow us to build out our software packages and provide users with download options on their own time and own needs, for the less restrictive products or those without licensing caps
  • We plan on developing our imaging process soon and using the software packages we have built as a post-image drag and drop approach. This allows more people to build laptops for our users and allows it to be done remotely and much faster than before
We are happy with the product but the support and development process is far superior to any other company we have worked with. Having a good support structure is very important in today's marketplace of products that do so many things and have so many robust options and capabilities. We are very satisfied with our contract, pricing, support and product execution.

We use it for device access (remote control), inventory and patch management across all of our customers. Our entire organization uses it in some way. It allows us to quickly manage several thousand computers, laptops and servers across the U.S.
  • Remote control is quick, efficient and easy to use.
  • Inventory of devices is great. You can query this data and report on it easily and quickly.
  • Security patch management is easy to manage with LDMS.
  • Their support needs improvement. Their front line support isn't always the most knowledgeable.
It's better suited when you want to integrate many facets of device management into one software package.
  • Overall a positive ROI, again allows us to quickly manage several thousand remote devices. We don't have time to use an unstable program for this.
LANDesk Management Suite provides many more built in tools so you can do more in one package.

We use LANDesk Management Suite primarily for Remote Control, Inventory and Security/Patch Management.

From a console point of view, it's fairly simple to setup and manage. After an initial core install or upgrade (which you just next through for the most part), service updates are just as easy. Agent installation is a little more tricky at times if you have AV with Landesk but still not that difficult. You need to know the methods of deployment, how to fix and what support options you have with Landesk if/when you have issues. Overall minimal management time needed.

Landesk Management Suite is an important part of our business. It's a useful tool that does what we need it to do on a daily basis. Landesk support is also improving which is nice to see. Overall the product continues to get better and I recommend it to anyone needing a package with such features.
