I use iWave to research prospective donors, board members and other key people to gather background information and their donation history mostly. When doing a donor rating and screening, we like to find out what other organizations the person has donated to as well as to fill in the blanks we have such as an address, work place, phone number, or email.
  • donation history
  • web references
  • sometimes they don't list the current workplace and will have a previous occupation, needs to be updated
I can find a plethora of information on the person I'm searching for. Sometimes it's hard to determine if I've found the right person if they have a common name.
  • Institution search
  • Donation history
  • helpful for our clients
I haven't used another product like iWave

We use Iwave to screen our donor database and then to create profiles for a selection of those donors. We use it for both overall screening and deep-dive individual research. It helps us to prioritize our outreach and engagement in the Development Department.
  • Database wealth screening
  • Donor profiles
  • Confirming capacity
  • Confidence scoring for matching has room for improvement
  • I'd like it to automatically create profiles
  • Integration with RENXT
Iwave is well suited to give you a starting point for screening a large data set, and to generate capacity indicators for your population. It is less useful for finding philanthropic inclination in general, in my experience because the recency of the donation data driving that does not seem to be up to date.
  • Large screenings
  • Capacity data
  • Profiles
  • Iwave saves us time by prioritizing our outreach
  • Helps us segment donor lists
  • Generates larger gifts used capacity for asks
We use them both and find them to work well together. Windfall is hands down better in terms of confidence of the matching, but Iwave gives us the ability to go deeper into what makes up their capacity, for example seeing real estate records.

iWave was used by or development team to help us figure out our best major donor contacts. The amount of information was useful for our major gift developer to establish a relationship with a donor we thought may be interested in long term major gifts. It also helped them prioritize and narrow down who they should be focusing on, along with giving them an idea of how much of an ask they should approach with when on visits or calls. The data was updated monthly and imported to our database for easy use by all of development to help monitor what stages of development each donor was in.
  • iWave is very good at finding the details of a donor and their financial picture
  • iWave is very good at breaking down this information in a digestible form
  • iWave is one of the most accurate systems we have use for donor matching when it comes to searching donors form our database
  • iWave gives you A LOT of information. And I mean a lot. Some of it seems mundane while other info points are important. I wish it could be narrowed down by how much data you want to see on somebody
  • Because of the amount of information, it's so easy to get lost in the weeds of your large donors. It has a very WIDE focus for gathering info
  • The website could definitely have a better layout. Sometimes finding the data or tab you need can be tricky
iWave is well suite for gathering a better idea of who you should focus on for major giving efforts. While it gives you a lot of good information, some of that information feels not very important and therefore, clogs up the data you actually need. iWave should not be used for something like direct mail list making. iWave seems to really be focused on the major donor aspect and it is not a tool to be used to help with regular annual giving
  • They have a great feature called the RFM score which shows you people in your database who interact with your nonprofit often. This is a great way to see which people might be major donors who already engage heavily with your content
  • They also have a feature which allows you to see what kinds of interests your donor donates to. Examples are Religious, Education, Environmental, etc... You can really get a sense of what's important to them and weather or not their interests fit your organization
  • Their overall scoring system is great. It shows you diamonds in the rough, not now prospects, etc.
  • iWave had a positive impact on our nonprofit by helping us focus our efforts rather than shoot blindly with no information
W e originally selected iWave because w e believed the return on our ROI would happen faster than it would with Donor search. Looking back, I wish we had realized that is kind of how it goes with major giving in general. We also didn't have a system the linked to DonorSearch at the time and iWaves reports pulling seemed simpler for our database type.
