We use Jet Reports to create monthly financial statements. This allows us to have reports that combine information that management reporter does not currently allow us to. For example, some of our reports combine statistical information and financial information and then does computations based on the information. Jet Reports allows us to design reports in this fashion.

Likelihood to Recommend
I think this is good when your financial system ERP or the tool on top does not do what you need. So probably not good for companies on SAP/Oracle but good for tiers just under that. This seemed fairly easy to implement and get started. I would say that if you purchase the software, the maintenance fee still seems on the high side on an annual basis.
Alternatives Considered
These are not comparable as Hyperion is generally used for the top tier ERP systems.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope
Jet Reports is being used by 75% of our entire Accounting Department. Jet Reports is a scalable resource that we deploy to perform an array of functions from internal audit to billing for our clients. Jet Reports offers a customizable approach to accurate and transparent financial reporting. Jet Reports helps us re-deploy time saved towards other value added areas such as expense review, planning, and forecasting.
Pros
  • Customized billing (both batch and individual) for our clients
  • Customized historical approach using designated look back approaches.
  • Jet Scheduler function (send any report, any format, to any party, any time).
  • drill down function (allows us to drill on amounts
  • Jet Table builder (build customized tables and join on additional fields as necessary).
  • Jet Snippets (save customized Excel snippets) and re-use them anytime to save yourself time.
  • Jet Report builder (build customized reports)
Cons
  • The number of "licenses" you are using can quickly and inadvertently explode causing your system to slow down.
  • Jet Reports could better help users by giving them tips and guidance for simplifying their queries so they run faster.
  • Jet Reports could explain user errors and post videos as to how they can be trouble shooted.
Likelihood to Recommend
Jet Reports is better suited if you have a specific population set you are looking at and less suited when querying or summing large pools or data, records, etc. I use a combination of Jet & SQL syntax when performing the latter because it allows me to harness the speed of our SQL server. Jet allows more for more customization when bodes better for users.
Alternatives Considered
Besides SQL, I have used no other similar reports.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope
We used Jet Reports as an add on reporting package to accompany mid market ERP solutions. It allowed customers to quickly and easily use a tool they were used to, Excel to query a database and report on a scheduled and ad-hoc basis. The solutions we created for companies did expand multiple departments from Accounting, Finance, Inventory Management, Operations and Strategy.
Pros
  • It uses a familiar language that most accounting professionals are comfortable with due to the nature of their work, Excel based formulas. The proprietary aspects the tool uses to query a data set are really easy to learn.
  • The scheduling tools to run large reports a over night or when there is low volume of users is a great way to limit the number of active licenses needed for ERP applications.
  • Connection via the ODBC standard allows easy access to a wide verity of databases with ease. This helps configuration and implementation time dramatically.
Cons
  • Licensing is at times a challenge if you are using a Citrix remote desktop or remoting into a server.
  • For complex formulas the wizard could provide more contextual help.
  • More online documentation would be a big help for new users.
Likelihood to Recommend
Jet Reports is well suited for small to mid-sized databases. If you are working with hundreds of gigs of data or terabytes, I would consider a more robust reporting platform. For implementation where you may have dashboards or lots of static reports, I might consider other options. If you do foresee customizing report layout often and need the ability to tweak reports constantly, I would consider Jet Reports.
Alternatives Considered
Jet Reports is light weight and has a minimal barrier to entry for new users. Tableau has a higher learning curve and is more cost prohibitive.
