DataGrip has proven to be a versatile tool for users across various industries, enabling them to centralize their database querying needs. This allows them to keep track of past queries and organize batches of queries and functions for different coworkers or clients. Users appreciate the convenience of being able to connect to multiple data sources at once, such as MS SQL, DB2, and MongoDB. By offering this capability, DataGrip eliminates the need for multiple database management applications, saving time and increasing productivity.

One standout feature of DataGrip is its autocomplete functionality and the ability to edit data in the results, which has significantly reduced database development time for users. Furthermore, the software's interface and query writing tools have been favorably compared with those found in BI systems, improving the overall experience for users. The visualization capabilities in DataGrip also deserve mention as they allow users to quickly retrieve the information they need without having to access a SQL instance. Additionally, the software's flexibility in customizing data exports has eliminated the need for custom arguments and modifiers in queries, making it easier to deliver output.

Overall, DataGrip has been well-received for its ability to handle all databases in one application, eliminating the need to switch between different tools. Whether it's managing SQL databases or connecting to remote MariaDB databases, users have found DataGrip to be a powerful solution that surpasses the capabilities of other IDEs like Eclipse for certain tasks. Its seamless integration of various features and user-friendly interface make it an invaluable tool for professionals looking to streamline their database management processes.

Based on user reviews, there are three common recommendations for DataGrip:

  1. Explore all the features: Users recommend exploring all the features of DataGrip to get the most out of it. This includes navigating and doing work in a database as well as taking advantage of its SQL query and admin tools.

  2. Compare with other vendor tools: It is suggested to review other vendor tools and check compatibility with operating systems before making a decision. Users also recommend comparing DataGrip to specific tools like PGAdmin 4 during the 30-day trial period.

  3. Consider pricing and licenses: Before purchasing, users advise checking the list of supported databases and license prices. They appreciate the affordable pricing options and various license choices available in DataGrip.

Overall, users recommend giving DataGrip a try, exploring its features thoroughly, comparing it with other options, and considering pricing and licensing before making a decision.

I use DataGrip daily for simple queries and complex reporting. I use it map out new tables/columns and to create new indexes.
  • Browse tables and the data
  • Export data
  • Create, modify tables
Cons
  • An easier way to have a pool saved queries that can opened quickly
I am a software engineer mostly, but am the default DB admin/developer as well. This tool has been very helpful, especially since it is part of the jetbrains development tools. It makes creating/updating tables easy. Can create indexes especially easy. It allows us to browse filter and export data in a great interface that is easy to use.
  • Less time to develop database structures
  • Easy to filter and find data
  • Export data for reporting purposes
Perfect other than a way to handle saving and re-using queries. A simple/better way of creating a pool of queries for each project or database connection would be very helpful. It is not bad now, just could be a better. I have used Navicat for MySQL in the past it had that feature. It could save all your queries to the cloud and you could use them on any device.
I think it blows away MySQL Workbench hands down. Workbench does have more functionality when it comes managing the MySQL instance, viewing performance etc. Navicat is ok, it might be better for new database develoopers. I stumbled upon DataGrip cause it came with jetbrains development tools subscription. I tried it out and it has been my go to for several years. now.

A good and complete tool for db developers that comes with a price in terms of money and complexity.

We use DataGrip as our main database client to connect to many different services and db engines. It has a good selection of connectors and for each of them enough granularity to configure the connection properties properly including ssh tunnelling and ssl certificates.
  • Connects to most of the db engines known
  • auto complete is powerful and db objects introspection is complete
  • one place for all your db connections
Cons
  • The resources footprint on your system is big
  • it is not just a db client, it is a db IDE and form most things, for most people, it is too much and overwhelming. Too many options have transformed a db client into another very complicated tool
  • Connections are grouped by project so just having a quick check to a database could require some change in the approach to the tool otherwise you end up with a single dummy project and tens of connections
  • introspection to browse db objects is slow and painful
  • It tries to be smart to help but it ends up to be in the way some time
  • Java based with all the pros (not many) and cons (bye bye memory)
Company that uses specific db engines that don't have db clients easily available. It comes with a price all this flexibility.
If you are looking for a lightweight and easy db client for some of the most common dbs (like postgres, MySQL, SQLite etc), in my opinion, it is not worth the price, effort to learn to use it and system resources footprint wasted.
  • centralise handling and re-allocation of license helps organisations to avoid wasting money on unused licenses.
  • One tool for multiple db engine could end up in less time and money spent on multiple cheaper tools
  • App well supported with continuos improvements and bug fixing
Usability has two aspects, being a complete tool and being easy... DataGrip has a lot of features but it is big, not clear how to use most of the things and most people won't need them. In my opinion, usability is good enough but not friendly.
One place for all the connections and uniformity of use and interaction

DataGrip is a great tool to work across platforms

Great tool for managing databases across platforms. Single UI for everything, and supports most DBMS out there. The UI can be customized in many ways.
  • Support for many DBMS platforms
  • Intuitive UI
  • Customizable UI
Cons
  • Can be a memory hog
  • No free community version with limited functionality
DataGrip is an ideal tool for developing stored procedures because you can have multiple open at once and copy&paste between them. The syntax highlighting and other UI features make very easy to look at the code to find mistakes.
  • Cost savings because we could use fewer database tools
  • Unfortunately, DataGrip isn't a 100% replacement for SSMS for SQL Server
DataGrip provides a single UI for many DBMS platforms, instead of using one for each. Because of that, you can migrate things between platforms using the tool and "look across" all databases at once.
