  • Estimate stories, adjust sprint scope, check velocity, and re-prioritize issues
  • Estimate, track and report on story points; become more accurate
  • Report on agile metrics to provide real-time, actionable data on team efficiency, quality, and overall performance
  • Integrate with all the tools their dev team is already using, from the rest of the Atlassian suite (Bitbucket, Bamboo, Fisheye, and Crucible) to other popular developer tools on-premise or cloud (e.g., GitHub and Jenkins).
  • Provide greater flexibility to curate which teams have access to which information with sprint and project-level permissions
  • Flexibly tailor Jira tasks and their workflows to a specific team's use case
  • Extend Jira with over 1,800 apps from the Atlassian Marketplace to fit any capability not provided by default

Jira is very useful if you are looking for issue & project tracking, managing the code & deployments, testing efforts, [and] task allocation.

Agile teams can stay focused on delivering iterative and incremental value, as fast as possible, with customizable scrum boards.

Jira also helps in creating the Agile Reports with real-time data.

I highly recommend Jira Software for large firms having several technology teams working on multiple projects on a daily basis. It is effective for both business and technological teams [that] maintain a common source to [track] projects and issues. Jira is most useful [for] developers who are multi-tasking from big projects, to smaller tasks, to troubleshooting bugs. It is easy to learn and to quickly start using [for] everyday work; [it makes our work] more efficiently, making it a highly desirable software to acquire for your team.

I imagine that Jira Software is really useful for geographically disperse focused on a specific project. Indeed, I was part of a team at a different organization than my current one that used Jira successfully to manage a technical initiative. However, it doesn't really suit the needs of an IS department at a Small to Medium Business. For example, we tried to use the helpdesk project template in Jira, but there's no way to update tickets via email and hashtags, which makes it cumbersome to update tickets, etc. Also, try as we may, we could never create one view that showed all projects and resource utilization within the department, which is a significant requirement of any manager. Finally, we tried to share access to our organization's instance with other departments, and we simply could not grant the other departments the rights they would need to manager their own projects. We had to manage the creation of their projects for them, which is unworkable.

When you need to break down a big project to many tasks and divide them between many members (even from different teams) - Jira is a great solution. However, seeing the progress "in a glance" is not that easy and straightforward.
When you want to "move fast" with smaller tasks it's becoming a bit cumbersome as if you're working for the software instead of it working for you.

[Jira Software is] well suited for a complex production environment, because of the vast swath of customization options and automations. If you use Bitbucket, it works even better and can integrate with commits and branches directly. Really allows for visibility into developer's progress. If your production is simple, this might be way too much for you, it can be overwhelming.

It's the best product on the market for software project creation and organization. I'd put Pivotal Tracker at a close second. But Jira simply has more features and customization that puts it at a cut above. So although I consider Jira to have a steep learning curve, you can customize it to make it as simple or as complicated as you'd like.

When a customer calls into a business with an issue it takes many hands behind the scenes that help the CSR resolve any issue. CSR's are able to create a ticket for specific departments. The specialists assigned to the tickets are able to respond and tag in other departments for an all hands on deck FIRST CALL ISSUE RESOLUTION. This is very important because every customer issue should be resolved in one call.

[Jira Software] is suited for both small and large organizations.
But in small organization it is easy to setup, and in large organizations it is somewhat difficult to start from scratch.
Startups should opt for [Jira Software], only if they have clear vision about how the process will flow in their organization.
In my opinion one will need help of some technical person for initial setup of this software.

We use Jira Software for agile software development, task management, project management and knowledge management (confluence). Using boards and dashboards is very easy [with] Jira Software. You can keep track [of] almost everything. Increases productivity among teams. It takes time to fully adopt, learn and properly manage it. Finally I can say it fully satisfys our organization.

I have been using Jira Software for the last 5 years and tracked all my work in Jira rather than checking from various emails etc. However keeping it updated is one big task that needs to be done once a week

Jira lets us collect information on all bugs or issues related to our platform from the start of performance testing, which lets us know that it is an appropriate service for issue tracking, in case we need to write them down and review them later. It is more than promising enough to be able to count on a representative of the Atlassian team to solve all our doubts concerning the use of the platform, and they usually work around the clock, which allows us to communicate with them regardless of the working hours taken. Regarding the usability design of the Jira platform, we have been shown that there is a huge advantage in terms of deployment and structure, so Jira could be one of the most ergonomic project management based services available today.

Jira is a fairly easy tool to learn and understand and so it could be used across several different departments outside of IT. I have used it before to send over tasks to different departments in order to get a project moving along and it has helped me stay on track while being up to date on how it's going. I don't think it'd be appropriate as a sole project management tool though because it gets to be easily misused.

I definitely recommend Jira Software to all engineering departments who seek a ticket management system to incorporate their development framework and methodologies. The best thing about Jira is its integration features into 3rd party platforms and its suite of supporting products like Confluence. It is a bit weak if you're looking for a project or program management software. It does not do well with roadmaps or waterfall project tracking, however, excellent for engineers and developers alike.

Jira is best used when you have bigger projects with plenty of dependencies and levels of granularity. You can create your own customized instances and have them positioned in the process as much as your business process needs through various stages of the project lifecycle. Jira can very well handle small projects as well, but there are smaller, more basic project-management tools that could be used for those projects.

Jira can be used in large scale projects which involve scores of complex tasks worked on by group of people from its first stage to execution. This scenario can be simplified by using Jira through its combination of scrum and kanban boards. Also, there is a to-do list which will remind you to complete all the tasks in large-scale projects.

Jira Software is well suited for the CICD environment, It is very well compatible with Bitbucket, JFrog, Jenkins, etc. It is only effective if everyone is using and updating the details correctly, then only it can show the true picture of the development. That is the true reason behind Jira, to reflect are we on the right track. If you have a mixed environment where few teams are using a different tool and few are updating details in Jira, then management will spend more time collecting data and it will be a disaster at the end. Also, it is not something to be enforced in a day, one must provide phase by phase adaptation and there will be few Jira experts who can help in the process.

It's a good agile project management tool. If you do some jobs within multiple teams this is just what you need. No more emails, no more follow-up calls, you see, comment, assign and do everything in Jira and everyone can see it. You get due date notifications, assignment notifications.

Well suited to manage sprints within agile projects. Works well for defect logging and tracking. Less suited for user-friendly views and can be improved for users without access to the admin level.

We have a project with 30 users finding multiple issues daily due to the project's complexity in all senses: business-wise, politically, technically, developer resource constraints, time constraints, and limited intake managers. That said, we must be very efficient and judicious about how we file all the reported errors, new features, critical bugs, re-categorizing in between, etc. JIRA's great interface allows us to search and tag and make fast large-scale edits to this torrent of tasks to bring it into order. The public visibility and linking tasks also helps organizing such a large volume of tickets with so few people. Without JIRA, either people wouldn't be able to submit requests at all to a sane system or the interface would be so dissuading as to cause them to not speak up. JIRA is the tool to tame a beyond-human scale of requests.

Jira has a very simple and self-explanatory UI. You don't need to train people, even the entry-level ones, on how to use it. Actions like basic issue logging and tracking are very easy. For advanced features you need a bit of practice and learning. At the start of our project, there were a lot of issues and tracking but Jira never disappointed us. It was always very easy and made it simple to log bugs. Even attaching screenshots was very easy. You can just copy-paste the screenshot.
