What is Jira Software?

Jira Software is a software development tool used by agile teams and supports any agile methodology, be it scrum, kanban, or a team's own unique flavor. From agile boards to reports, users can plan, track, and manage agile software development projects from a single tool, helping teams release higher quality software, faster.

And since not every team works the same way, Jira Software allows teams to customize workflows, permissions, and schemes to match the unique needs of each team.

With Jira Software, teams are able to:

  • Track versions, features, and progress at a glance
  • Easily re-prioritize user stories and bugs
  • Estimate stories, adjust sprint scope, check velocity, and re-prioritize issues
  • Estimate, track and report on story points; become more accurate
  • Report on agile metrics to provide real-time, actionable data on team efficiency, quality, and overall performance
  • Integrate with all the tools their dev team is already using, from the rest of the Atlassian suite (Bitbucket, Bamboo, Fisheye, and Crucible) to other popular developer tools on-premise or cloud (e.g., GitHub and Jenkins).
  • Provide greater flexibility to curate which teams have access to which information with sprint and project-level permissions
  • Flexibly tailor Jira tasks and their workflows to a specific team's use case
  • Extend Jira with over 1,800 apps from the Atlassian Marketplace to fit any capability not provided by default

JIRA is used across the entire org, as work item management tool. Each department has its own projects and boards, processes and assignees. It is actually holding the day to day work of the team, allows for sharing, tracking and planning. It is sometimes cumbersome though but most employees already know it.

Jira is one application that offers [a] one stop solution for all issue & project tracking, repository management, [and] tasks allocations related work. Our entire organization uses this application.

We were using Jira Software to manage technical projects within the Information Systems department. We had some projects that had a definite schedule with milestones, deliverables, and tasks. We also had other ongoing projects that required scheduling, prioritization, and resource assignment. Jira Software was helping us to organize and coordinate our activities.

Jira is being used across the entire organization for different needs.
The R&D team is the main "heavy" consumer to manage the development of our software, but Jira is also being used by other teams like product, graphics, support, customer success etc. It let's us collaborate and prioritize our daily tasks while maintaining transparency between teams.

Jira is an integral part of our organization. If it's not used across the whole organization it's probably close to 90%. We use it to manage our internal software projects and products. We also have clients that use Jira Software where we are asked to create and manage tickets. It helps keep us organized and accountable for our work and efforts on any project.

Jira [Software] was used as a ticket system that was used by all customer service agent for the Operations Department to resolve. We are able to organize, delegate and resolve customer issues in real time. I recommend that Jira [Software] be used in order to improve customer service, and communications within the company. Jira [Software] is easy to use, easy to learn and easy to train new employees on. The best part of Jira [Software] is being able to customize your personal Dashboard for your job, team, and department.

Jira [Software] is used to maintain workload in our organization. It is used for implementing any new features in software. Also used for [tracking] any issue raised. It is used [in the] whole organization and in each department.
Most helpful feature is that each and every team is formally connected with each other in organization[.] [For example the] marketing [team] is connected with support team, support team is connected with R&D team. Thus improving overall performance and efficiency of my organization.

We are using Jira Software to track and manage everything for a project. Right from requirement logging as an epic/user stories to tracking their deliverables.

We are using Jira [Software] across whole organization, everything is tracked under different components/department levels with the restricted access level restrictions around it.

Kanban boards are used to get the holistic view of project such what is present in backlog to in build/test. We are working in agile and Jira [Software] helping us to manage everything for us.

We love to try new services for the project management area, and we have decided to stay with Jira as the main platform for scheduling and workflow configuration, which we can extend as much as needed, and where we can add employee information depending on the desired scope of work.

We use Jira to follow progress in every step of the way for projects the company is currently working on. We can track bugs or issues that come up and have the correct people be attached to a Jira ticket and get the problem solved quickly. We can keep our notes together in an organized way for each project and task.

Jira is used by the majority of our organization, within most departments, and used for a variety of workflow processing. Each department has a specific use case for it, but it's heavily used in the engineering department to track the software development life cycle using the agile or shape-up methodology.

The client has revamped the whole development process and as a part of it, Jira's application is being used to track the development. The idea is to deploy Jira across the organization.
It effectively manages the development cycle and development time. Every role can use it like BAs, Testers, Developers. They know their task based on the description and acceptance criteria.

We use it to enter all requests; vet their research thru discovery; assign resources, points, sprint, deadlines, watchers, labels, components, etc.; publicize progress to all parties; configure dashboards to enable managers to make decisions; and house all our historical works for future reference. It is in the cloud thus accessible from anywhere. Our centralized directory runs its single-sign on thus no need to make accounts. User data from that directory is shown in JIRA thus speeding up contacting. It solves lack of mutual visibility, accountability, standardizing tags/labels, mass assigning tasks, organizing a formerly email-based workflow, and forces discipline.

[It's being used for] Coordinating work and submissions from multiple stakeholders and users and estimating completion of projects. Most of our software development teams use it for planning agile projects and coordinating with stakeholders, and tracking velocity and estimated completion dates.

Jira is used across my organization. For me, it's the best project management software available.
We use it for all purposes. The fields are really extensive and easy to use. Additionally, the filters are very useful and you can track the issues very easily. Filters have advance search features too which incorporate very simple query language and can fetch specific results. Jira dashboards are another feature that is used daily. You can add various gadgets to the dashboard and track the progress of the project instantly. You can also share dashboards with people where they can check the status and this, in turn, saves you time.
