Sharepoint:
Sharepoint locks you into a box, but at least most MS Office products are in that box and work well together. Sharepoint tended to be very "clunky" when used, but it covers the basics of collaboration even if it could be difficult to use. I can't speak from an Admin perspective, but from a user side it fulfilled its purpose.

Salesforce Communities/Chatter - I include this because if everyone is onboard with using Salesforce, Chatter and Communities can be a solid platform choice for collaboration. Usually business data is in Salesforce already, so having conversations and collaboration around the specific business information is extremely helpful. Being an administrator, I viewed the administration of Salesforce to be complex at times, but quickly resolved.

My choice by order of preference would be:
1. Salesforce
2. Jive
3. Sharepoint

As a social collaboration tool - Jive is best product for me and I love it.
Other products related to same domain but functionally different I have used are:
Radian6 - The tool is now owned by Salesforce. It is used for doing Sentiment analysis and engagement directly with the customer on the respective social networking site.
Attensity - The tool is developed by Attensity. It is a suite with different tools, and is widely used due to the accuracy of results obtained thru it. The tool is used for Sentiment Text Analysis but, unlike Radian6 which involves machine driven analysis, it involves human intervention to get accurate results.

Compared to MS SharePoint community administration, I'm much more comfortable with Jive administration tools. The Jive user interface is more pleasing and easily adaptable with readymade widgets. The navigation (both top level and within a social group or community) is made easier with standard tabs and standard content types.
