KeePass is a highly valued and widely used password management software that securely stores and manages service accounts and passwords for hundreds of machines and thousands of users/accounts. With an easy-to-use interface, KeePass allows different departments within organizations to operate for various customers with different users while maintaining a high level of security. Users appreciate the convenience and security provided by KeePass being a local application with its own app on Windows and Android.

Additionally, KeePass is relied upon by IT departments to store sensitive passwords and enable difficult password creation for all administrators. The software is used across organizations as a secure alternative password manager, with a master database on a server and individual databases for personal passwords. KeePass helps IT departments keep track of numerous random passwords set up for service accounts and other purposes, ensuring password security in one central location. It also aids in sharing login credentials within technical departments, reducing user frustration and securely storing sensitive information.

Furthermore, KeePass is recommended by long-time users who find it invaluable for password management due to its ability to manage and maintain a variety of online accounts with randomly generated passwords. Some users even utilize KeePass for repetitive form filling, citing its ease of use and integration with browsers. The software also provides a unified and synchronized solution for storing passwords and notes, both for individual use and in teams. Overall, KeePass has become the standard password management offering across organizations, offering convenience, security, and peace of mind.

Password Management Feature: Many users have praised the password management feature, with several stating that it makes it incredibly easy to store and view their accounts when they can't remember login information. They appreciate the ability to generate unique and complex passwords for enhanced security.

Ease of Use: Reviewers have consistently mentioned the simplicity and ease of use of the password management system. They feel that it is suitable for any end user and can be easily scaled to meet their needs. Users also commend its well-designed user interface, making it visually appealing and user-friendly.

Security Measures: Multiple users have expressed satisfaction with the overall security measures provided by the password management system. They appreciate features such as encrypted database storage, secure notes, access control, and timely alerts about expiring passwords. This comprehensive approach ensures the protection of sensitive information and enhances overall security.

  1. Clunky viewing of passwords: Some users have found the viewing of passwords to be clunky and have suggested that there might be a better way to do it. They have to edit the entry and unmask the password in order to view it, which can be inconvenient and disrupt their workflow.

  2. Import function needs improvement: Many users have mentioned that they would like to see improvements in the import function. They feel that the current process of importing passwords from a browser lacks granularity and could be more user-friendly, providing them with more control over what data is imported.

  3. Lack of dark mode: A significant number of users have expressed their desire for a dark mode feature in the software. The absence of this option makes it difficult for them to use the software comfortably, especially during nighttime or in low-light environments where a dark theme would be less straining on their eyes.

Users recommend adopting the free version of KeePass for securely storing passwords. They suggest creating a personalized user guide and gaining support from key managers to promote widespread usage of KeePass. Users find KeePass to be a safe and user-friendly password manager. They also highlight its convenient feature of storing servers and URLs. KeePass is favored over other alternatives due to its free availability and strong support. It is particularly suitable for tech-savvy individuals seeking control and customization in their password management. Furthermore, users recommend implementing KeePass as a cost-effective solution for enforcing password policies in companies. They suggest replacing insecure practices like post-it notes, spreadsheets, and written passwords with KeePass for enhanced security and centralized password tracking.

It is used by different departments where administrators need to operate for several customers with different users. Because of security reasons we have to change our password very often. No administrator is able to recall so many different passwords for so many different clients. And the requirement of our clients is a very high level of security.
  • central password for a large password store
  • sharing of password databases within a team
  • automation of entering difficult user/password combinations
  • generation of high level passwords
  • scripting for specific tasks in forms
  • auto-type does not work with specific login dialogs like Pulse Secure
Compared to the password management in the Firefox browser, Keepass is using a separate database. This database can be backed up separately, stored on a USB stick or something similar. If you have to set up a new Computer, you can use your database easily. I also use KeePass for storing comments to my users (online shopping) in order to remind me of particular information regarding the single online stores. Using KeePass for online shopping makes it easy to create a unique user and password for each online shop. And you can set an expiry date for your password and KeePass reminds you to create a new password.
  • great ability to organize users and passwords
  • expiration warning
  • auto-type function
  • master database password
  • fast access to a huge number of users and passwords
  • low storage space needed
  • can be used locally on notebooks and on terminal servers for teams
  • easy to install
  • easy to keep updated
  • individual language configuration
I cannot remember how and why I selected KeePass. But I think it was the possibility to try it as a shareware product first. In the past, there were only the most important features realized in the software (and some stuff I never needed). To see how the software has been developed and improved during the years creates trust in the company that created this nice piece of Software. If the software is able to stay on the market for so many years is also important to create trust in the developer company.

On my iPhone, I use keePassium because I evaluated this as the best current version as a password store on my smartphone. And KeePass is not available for iPhone.

System Operators, System Administrator, Consultants, Managers
Because of security reasons we have to change the passwords of our users very often because we access systems of many customers. And security is one of the main requirements we are facing in our job. There is no difference between managers and operators.

There is no real in-house support for KeePass available. All the users help each other or find help on the Internet. KeePass is easy to use and if there are special use-cases where special knowledge is need, you always will find someone who already solved this problem or can help you to solve it.
  • auto-type user and password in login forms
  • select data from a list for special software that requires user related information
  • remind you to renew your passwords that will be soon expire
  • scripting some special ways of auto-type
  • configure usage for specific software with application recognition
  • select specific data from lists stored inside of KeePass
  • the usage of KeePass is limited to the storage of particular data and provisioning this data on demand
  • it is hard to guess the things to come
  • maybe KeePass will develop some innovation that I cannot imagine right now
My very good experience in the past 15 years of usage of KeePass makes it easy to decide for a renewal of this friendship. I was never disappointed and KeePass always meets my expectations. The software runs stable and if there should be a software error, it will be fixed in no time. This is customer satisfaction.
