We use KISSmetrics to track the key metrics from our SaaS products.
  • Great continuing education (webinars, blog posts, etc)
  • Super easy to use interface
  • Better, in-app direction
I've found myself using Google Analytics to compare traffic and conversions between channels.

KISSmetrics is being used by the marketing department to make actionable decisions regarding customer acquisition and retention. It also helps us identify areas where we can improve our product.
  • Helps identify cohorts and the lifetime value of particular cohorts.
  • Helps us understand what individual customers are having trouble with our system so we can give proactive customer support.
  • Helps us identify issues with the onboarding experience.
  • Lower priced plans.
It's well suited for SaaS companies but may not be good for a general blog.

We use KISSmetrics in the Marketing department to fill in the gaps left by Google Analytics, giving us much better insight into who our customers are, why they come to our sites, and how we can better convert them. KISSmetrics has been invaluable in this respect, especially considering the ease of use and setup it provides.
  • Ease of setup and integration with Google Analytics and Optimizely
  • Segmentation/cohort identification
  • Funnel analysis
  • KISSmetrics doesn't let you see all the events any given user triggered or all the funnels he or she went through
  • You can get a long way with just Google Analytics
It's less appropriate for early-stage marketing analytics and less mature programs.

KISSmetrics allows us to identify what's going wrong by who. This information is valuable to every business.
  • Identify holes in the funnel
  • Visualize users flow
  • Create solutions based off data
  • Suggestions on fixes
It's important for any web startup that is going to have data coming in to use a service like KISSmetrics.

Our eCommerce team is currently using KISSmetrics to better understand user behavior and customer profiles. We are actively working with KISSmetrics to ensure that the data we are seeing is an accurate reflection of activity on the site. We are hopeful that this platform will ultimately give us incremental key insights into customer and prospect buying behavior and lead us to prioritize updates to the site to maximize the eCommerce channel.
  • Ties revenue to user groups.
  • Ties revenue to traffic drivers (including attribution), like SEO, SEM, email, and others.
  • Provides some analytics at a deeper level than Google Analytics.
  • Getting set up properly on the front end based on what our goals are.
  • Deeper technical understanding by primary points of contact.
  • Troubleshooting when we have questions about the data or about setting up / running custom reports.
How much data detail and customer segmentation do you need beyond what Google Analytics provides?

I run social media for myself using Leadpages and heard about KISSmetrics. I checked out their infographics and blog. They provide a wealth of information without having to hire an analyst. It's more advanced and in depth than just regular analytics.
  • Better analytics
  • More in-depth
  • Great information
  • Make it free. ;-)
It's well suited if you have the desire to really see true metrics and not just landing page conversions but timing and other good demographics.

KISSmetrics gave me better segmented data and the ability to run better cohort analysis.
  • You will get better data from your users than any other tracking platform out there.
  • The data visualization tools are amazing!
  • You will make better data decisions with KissMetrics!
  • The price can be a little high for a bootstrapping startup but worth it.
  • You're going to have to be more tech savvy to setup more advance experiments.
  • You might have more data than you need.
I could write a blog post about how awesome KissMetrics is and also add them to my resources pages.

We decided to buy KISSmetrics to augment the data we were collecting through Google Analytics. Since the majority of the transactions on our site were generated from repeat buyers and there's a huge LTV skew toward a small percentage of buyers, we really wanted granular data regarding user behavior. The tool was pretty easy to set-up, but you need to pay attention to the way that visitors are counted and how attribution works with dimensions. If you're used to GA, KM is more like universal analytics, which represents more of an event: attribute model. They've done a lot to speed up reports over the past year and being able to see the paths of actual people across time as they traverse events and properties is very interesting if you're managing UX or marketing. It's a good product if you have a use case that ties into analyzing individual user behavior.
  • User level analysis
  • Flexible event attribute model
  • Easy interface
  • Report export options
  • Report scheduling
If you have a site which is primarily lead generated or very limited in scope, or where behavior is very homogeneous, there's no point.

We love the power of KissMetrics. With our SAAS service, it's imperative we can quickly capture the metrics we need to know what users are doing and where we're losing people. Kiss Metrics offers all of those needs and a becomes a daily spot for you to dive into user data and marketing metrics. There can be a small learning curve for more advanced features, but once you get the basics down you can really gain valuable insights. Definitely worth the monthly fee to gain these insights.
  • Tracking of behavior of users
  • Tracking sources of different marketing campaigns and what those users do once they get to your sight
  • Daily, easy to read reports to keep metrics top of mind
  • On boarding, the videos and resources were good but in my opinion not adequate for the depth that KissMetrics offers
  • Funnels could use some explanation, in that it's not immediately clear how you can build them to your exact needs, it can be very one dimension and not elastic to fit other things
  • Within funnel reports, the use and display of properties from events is very weird. It took us a while to figure out what the property stats were actually saying.
At the price point this is not a tool for someone that is just getting their business started and is spending less than $500 a month in marketing or less than a few hundred people to your site per month. It's very robust and is an investment in time to get set up and going.

I am new to KISSmetrics, but I love everything about the software. Currently, I am using KISSmetrics to track the sales on a popular Woo Commerce site. From what I've discovered, there is absolutely no equivalent to the insights offered by KISSmetrics.

We are able to use KISSmetrics to do a better job at tracking the profitability on our marketing channels. I am still getting to know the capabilities of what KISS can really do but we've already found ways to improve our spend, and the tool easily pays for itself.

My experience so far as made me a huge fan of KISS and I am working on incorporating the tool into the site of a music label, and a B2B lead generation site. I can't wait to see the results there as well.

  • Link KISSmetrics to your email marketing to measure ROI
  • Use KISSmetrics to judge the effectiveness of your content strategy (blog, social)
  • I'm still new to the product, so my primary challenge so far has been the learning curve. Kiss metrics is powerful and as a result, there is a lot to learn. To be honest it can feel a little overwhelming when you first get started. My only suggestion is to make the on-boarding and learning process easier for newbies like me. :)
KISSmetrics works great when you have either a high-traffic website, or a high-profit product. KISSmetrics is perfectly suited for SaaS and E-Commerce websites. I plan on testing it out on a lead generation site and I expect a positive experience there as well (but I've not personally experimented with that type of site yet).

Funnel Reports?

Score 5 out of 10
Vetted Review

KISSmetrics is being used by our company in order to track conversions across referrals, A/B test different designs for our site, as well as optimize specific pages. As a startup, the product team is heavily invested in our key performance indicators and use KISSmetrics to help support decisions to the rest of the organization.
Although funnel reports aren't perfect, KISSmetrics lets us A/B test at a high level.
  • A/B testing at a high level: while funnel reports are questionable, A/B testing is trust worthy, although it is very difficult to A/B test a funnel accurately.
  • Cohort analysis: we've never had a problem with this.
  • Funnels: The funnel system is rather confusing, and at times provides information that is literally impossible. It tracks our conversion rates sometimes with orders of magnitude difference between what KISS says, and what we know to be true.
  • A/B testing a funnel: This is just impossible to do accurately with the information presented by KISS.
I would recommend KISSmetrics if a colleague only cares about one or two key performance indicators. Once care is needed for nuanced funnels or other measures of performance, they may not get the results that they needed, or expected. Competitors like Google Analytics can provide a similar level of information at a better price.

This product provides excellent information to make informed choices around our data. It has given us insight into our consumers as to how and when they are using our products. It's been a lifesaver and their blog and helpful resources have been what we use to ensure we're on the right path with the product.
  • Excellent Customer Service
  • Supportive blogs and resources
  • Realistic data assessments
  • The price per month is expensive for smaller businesses, but is worth it in order to grow and understand your customers.
I think this provides more stats than any other service. To be successful I suggest reading their blog. That is always full of excellent content for our industry whether you use the software or not.

  • The Kissmetrics product is particularly helpful in identifying holes in the funnel. We are able to track user behavior on multi-session basis which is the big differentiator from Google Analytics (we use both). With Kissmetrics we have been able to identify users who are likely to convert. We are also able to track our conversion rates on every page on our site.
  • I really like the Kissmetrics Dashboard as it gives us a good view into metrics for our business. We keep our most important website metrics in this view and I go there once a day to get a digest of everything that is going on.
  • The product integrates well with Optimizely. We love to run A/B tests and Kissmetrics is where we store most of our web conversion data.
  • Track users by Channel.
  • In some cases reporting can be limited. The product helps you to track funnels that you preset, but it does not help you to find funnels you may not be aware of.

  • Provided extremely detailed information of user activity on our website
  • Depicted user activity in graphs/charts at a high level that is easy to read
  • Functionality to search among dates and users is extremely helpful in conducting analytical research on users and product
  • While I was able to look at a particular user's activity in nifty charts and graphs, I would have liked to be able to export the data into .csv or .xlsx to run my own analyses
  • The service would black out for minutes/hours at a time, resulting in missed data and discrepancies in our reporting
It is appropriate if you are looking closely at detailed user activity on a web platform. Would have been helpful if KISSmetrics had analytical software for mobile platforms just as it does for web platforms (which my company used heavily and to my knowledge, data from mobile could not be extracted from KISSmetrics).

  • KISSmetrics provides a concise summary of website visitors
  • KISSmetrics shows the activity of website users
  • KISSmetrics allows for analysis to be conducted on website usage patterns over time
  • KISSmetrics is difficult to navigate as the layout is too basic to function well.
  • It is inconvenient to take the results of KISSmetrics and then copy and paste data out in order to create a usable and viewer-friendly summary.
  • KISSmetrics could improve upon the aesthetics of their site.
I would recommend KISSmetrics to someone who needs basic information about usage of their website. KISSmetrics might be particularly of use to start-up or small companies which do not have that much data to process and could function with basic analyses of their data.

  • KISSmetrics did Funnel Analysis really well. Unlike Google Analytics, the admin does not need to predefine the funnel paths and can change funnel paths on the fly. This is very useful because the admin does not always know which path would they be most interested in.
  • KISSmetrics also does tracking of individual users really well. It is able to tie user visits to your website from before the user registers. It is also able to track user visits on different browsers and devices.
  • KISSmetrics customer support is incredible. Each time we had an issue, they would quickly hop on a call and provide all the necessary information and detailed responses.
  • KISSmetrics admin tools' user experience is extremely intuitive. Even for non-technical audiences, it is very easy to learn and start using.
  • At the time I used KISSmetrics, I was not able to use the user segmentation functionality very easily.
  • The API level integration between KISSmetrics and any metrics that the business may be capturing was available, but did not support all features.
To anyone looking to make a selection between various analytics platforms, I would recommend considering the following
- What is the level of expertise of the admin using the tool?
- What features are most important to you?
- Do you care most for webview or number of actual people using your service?
- Do you know in advance what metrics you will be most interested in?

  • Kissmetrics has a fantastic dashboard where you can see all relevant metrics immediately after login.
  • Kissmetrics was extremely easy to implement in our site and it works across different platforms.
  • After the initial setup, managing and creating new events to track is super simple.
  • You can monitor live usage. This feature allows you to monitor user interactions as they are happening and as events you are tracking are triggered. You can see exactly what users are doing real time, which is really a very cool feature. At the time, this kind of realtime monitoring was not possible with Google Analytics.
  • Live usage UI can be improved a lot. although this was definitely a very cool feature, it was somewhat marred by a poor and confusing UI. It shows a stream of actions events being triggered, but it's a bit difficult to figure out how to actually use this stream of data. For example, it;s very difficult to follow a single user. This feature needs a much more intuitive visual design for it to be truly useful as well as just cool.
Kissmetrics is a very good and simple tracking and reporting system. I think that all web properties should have it installed in order to be able to track what's important. You can still have google analytics in conjunction with KISSmetrics and get good insights from that product, but the simplicity and ease-of-use offered by Kissmetrics makes it a no-brainer.

  • Understanding when, in any particular visit, a given visitor gives up on a goal in your application is already a difficult problem. Having solved it, you're still left with the problem that most visits will then read as failures to complete a transaction (in the e-commerce sense, which was our implementation), because you cannot reliably identify the visitor across visits, and if you could, the effort you'd expend to track their performance in even one funnel would be significant--let alone the paths you don't yet know your customers are taking. KISSmetrics handles all that--basic funnel tracking, matching users across visits, dynamic funnels. They allowed us to reduce the effort of tracking funnels to the bare minimum--a single pixel throughout the site--and extract signal from the noise over time in their application.
  • Once you've adopted those tools and become accustomed to reading the results, adding A/B testing and seeing nearly instant results (for in-page variable text and images, at least) can be accomplished in less than thirty minutes.
  • KISSmetrics doesn't teach you basic statistics. You'll still need to understand the significance of your tests, and any externalities that might cause seemingly obvious flaws in your funnels. Partly because of the problem the tool best helps to solve (long-term tracking of user behavior), expressing the real meaning of a filtered funnel report (in a given time period, with multiple filters) can be difficult.

  • Product Decision Making: Allowed us to do a/b test and verify specific decisions.
  • Customer Searching or Tracking: Allowed us easily filter through all our users and pin-point one user to analyze.
  • Customer Performance: Enabled us to see if a specific customer was able to complete certain tasks in an expected timeframe.
  • Data import of events previous events: We uploaded lots of data to help us analyze it further.
  • Viewing the Customer Funnels: Gave us the opportunity to see the paths of our customers.
  • Demographic Analysis of the customers: It doesn't provide comprehensive demographic analysis of our users (age, sex, etc.,).
  • RealTime means 30mins but it's still pretty responsive: Takes awhile until the data and graphs show the most updated data.
  • Comprehensive API but for the barebones it does a good job: For anyone that needs advanced customization, it will most likely require lots of customer support since their API is barebones.
Start off with Google Analytics and then over time if budget and further learning is allowed build out KISSmetrics.

Start off with the basics. GA will give all the core basics. Over time when GA becomes too vague and you want to follow people versus just a number... upgrade to KISS or Mixpanel. Depending on your budget, go with Mixpanel since it's free up to some x number of events. KISSmetrics however will charge you up front after 14 days.

  • Very simple integration, engineering-wise
  • Best for supporting non-technical users in running ad-hoc queries of metrics and funnels
  • Complicated queries of your data that aren't strictly activity levels and funnels and cohort reports
  • Very difficult (or impossible) to track specific states of people and events (for example, if a purchase is refunded, you won't get an accurate picture of how many purchases you actually delivered)
  • The Power Reports functionality has some horsepower, but is unbelievably confusing to set up
Overall, KISSmetrics has been incredibly helpful with us. Very good customer service, and they worked with us on the budget.

  • KISSmetrics is a brilliant concept, and when it works, it works really well. I love the data granularity that it generates, and it's really good at funnel analysis (measuring site visitor progression through a specific flow). It's also great for enabling the firing of events based on specific interactions.
  • The biggest issue, is that I have lost faith in the accuracy of the data.
  • There have been a few examples of the system producing what looks like spurious data. I triangulate the data using Google Analytics, and on a few occasions, there have been very wide discrepancies that indicate a potentially serious problem. For example, Google might indicate 1,000 page views, while KISSmetrics indicates 5,000.. This is not a constant problem, but it has happened enough where my faith in the data is shaken.
  • It really doesn't matter how good the front-end functionality is if my faith in data accuracy is not 100%.
  • A/B testing is much more difficult than it needs to be. It is possible to structure the product to enable A/B testing, but this involves reading a bunch of help files and writing some code. I would have expected this to work out-of-the-box. In Google Analytics, for example.you only have to enter two URLs and then it works. This was a surprise.
The product is conceptually brilliant, but there are some definite rough spots. As noted, second level support and the visual design elements are the two biggest ones.

  • The ability to tie advertising spend to revenue is awesome.
  • The product has a very clean interface making it easy to get the data we want.
  • Funnel analysis is also great. It's great to segment prospects into funnels and track them separately.
  • Data inconsistencies are common to all these analytics products. If I look at a look at one number from one angle, it's different to when I look at it from another angle. For example, site visir numbers are different in Kissmetrics and in Google and in Hubstpot. No one product is more right than the others.
