So far, we're limited to using Kony Development Cloud (KDC) within the Tech Service Org (TSO). Should the pilot prove successful, I'll push them to the whole enterprise. We use KDC to speed up the key app developments.
  • Multi-platform capable.
  • It offers flexibility.
  • Automated coding, app preview facility, and direct API connect.
  • Saving time
  • Manuals or instructions need to be streamlined with its high pricing.
  • It's a very intricate platform. It only performs moderately while the app is currently in operation.
Improve performance while the app is in production. The init app development in planning, the testing stage is not an ideal scenario to use KDC yet.
  • Positive on ROI. I'm constantly utilizing Kony since it's a robust tool capable of publishing.
  • It also shares prototype creations of apps in a highly intuitive and customizable environment. It provides a preview of apps in real-time. Collaboration is seamless. Important functionality includes smartphone features (without any written code involved) and accessibility to a browser, maps, and SMS.
  • Trying to understand the user manual can be challenging since there are way too many features available. All of them aren't really necessary for beginners. And they've yet to offer them in a "phased" approach.
We are using KDC to migrate EPIC applications. So far, we are using it for our projects, billing and finance apps. We are also working on extending it to other departments. It is being used by an entity (TSO). KDC got the best score in the PoC.

Kony is used across organizations to develop mobile apps for different business needs. It is mainly used in areas where cross platform requirements are there. At our workplace we have a concept of BYOD (Bring your own device) to work. BYOD refers to employees bringing their own personal mobile device into the workplace to be used in place of traditional desktop computers or company-provided mobile devices for accessing company applications and data. Because of BYOD, it has become necessary for business groups to develop their mobile apps and be able to send them to many different mobile devices that operate on various networks and use different operating systems.
  • Cross-platform mobile development - we used this for developing the app on a native platform (which could be iOS, Android). Kony offers tools that are useful because they decrease costs and increase the speed at which apps are developed. In addition, cross-platform mobile development tools are generally quite simple to use as they are based off of the common languages for scripting, including CSS, HTML, and JavaScript. It has become easy to find resources with the skill set especially because this is based out of common languages.
  • In Kony mobility platform Visualizer makes app development quick and easy. Tons of documentation online.
  • Used Kony to develop an amazing app that serves our customers well. WYSIWYG interface is great for building interfaces quickly. Build and test quickly for many different targets.
  • Integrate with Sencha products for more UI control options
  • Overall product is good but service integration needs maturity
  • Poor analytics suite. They can totally improve on providing out of the box analytics and reports which is very useful for any business decisions.
If your organization is smaller in nature and is looking for something out of the box, this platform may be for you. However if your organization is looking for something with added customization and a quick deployment, shift your attention in a different direction.

The idea of the product is great and should allow for enhanced customization in the future; if it works properly. The analytics tools are promising but lack quite a lot.
  • Kony had a overall positive impact in our organization. There are few things we measured to determine this.
  • Increase in number of users who use the mobile app vs desktop app
  • Met the quarter metrics that will help for smooth auditing purpose
  • Quick development to ensure build and releases are fast with less downtime
  • We were able to achieve all the above factors that made overall investment a success.
We evaluated variety of platforms like Xamarin, Sencha, PhoneGap. When we were initially evaluating Xamarin, it was not Microsoft and so the releases and features were not very streamlined. Also licensing was a issue with that.
Sencha was a very attractive cross mobile platform but was expensive. Just for handful of developers price was high. Ours is big enterprise so licensing costs became huge.
PhoneGap is based out of open source Apache Cordova project and is completely free to use, which goes some way to explain its popularity. The enterprise version boasts marketing features via Adobe’s Marketing Cloud, so when it launches it will probably be monetized.

Comparing with the features platform has to offer and the price tag attached to it, we narrowed down to using Kony.
