LANSweeper is a versatile inventory system that has proven to be an invaluable asset for IT departments across various organizations. Users have praised its ability to provide a centralized solution for tracking and managing all assets in the network, including desktops, notebooks, servers, switches, IP phones, and materials in stock. By utilizing the software's comprehensive scanning capabilities, users can effortlessly monitor critical aspects such as drive space, toner levels, antivirus status, and software installations. LANSweeper's detailed reports offer valuable insights into network-connected devices, enabling users to plan hardware upgrades effectively. The software's user-friendly interface and SQL configuration make it easy to set up personalized reports and alerts tailored to specific needs. Moreover, LANSweeper's cost-effectiveness is highlighted by the availability of a free option for smaller organizations with fewer than 100 devices. This product has become an indispensable tool for IT departments seeking efficient inventory management and asset monitoring solutions.

Effective scanning capabilities: Many users have praised LANSweeper's scanning capabilities, stating that it allows for an in-depth look at devices on the network. This feature has been identified by several reviewers as one of the key strengths of the software.

Extensive reporting functionality: Several users have appreciated the extensive reporting functionality offered by LANSweeper. They mention being able to generate a wide range of reports, including checking RAM in groups and identifying necessary upgrades. This flexibility in reporting has been highly regarded by multiple reviewers.

Useful for device identification and management: Users have found LANSweeper to be highly useful for identifying and managing various devices on their networks. It enables them to address issues such as local printers not allowed on the network or end-of-life devices. Slow Performance in VMs: Some users have experienced slowness in LANSweeper, especially when running it in a 2016 VM. They suggest that using an SQL server instead of a local lite instance of SQL may improve its performance.

Lack of Detail in Printer Reports: Users have mentioned that the printer reports in LANSweeper lack sufficient details. This can make it challenging to gather comprehensive information about printers.

Difficulty with Auto-Removal Management: Some users find it difficult to balance the auto-removal of items from LANSweeper. While acknowledging that it might not be the software's fault, they still struggle with managing this feature effectively.

Users of Lansweeper have made several recommendations regarding its functionality for staying on top of workstations and tracking patched vulnerabilities. The three most common recommendations are as follows:

  1. Keep track of workstations: Many users have commended Lansweeper for its ability to effectively manage and monitor workstations. They have found it helpful in keeping track of hardware and software inventory, ensuring that all workstations are up to date with the latest patches and updates.

With all the IT asset across various office globally, we need to have a centralize IT asset management software to inventories all the IT assets (hardware and software) in my organization as a single source of truth. The benefit of this SaaS product is without the need to install agents on all IT equipment for discovery and making it easier to deploy.
  • No installation agent required
  • Able to identify all IT hardware and software that connected to the network
  • Yearly audit make easy and simplied with the accuracy of the IT asset reporting
  • The reporting needs to be more details though there are many options available.
  • Patch management is not easy to use and confusing
  • The user interface need to be improved
Lansweeper have so many features it has available for use by IT professionals. It also allows us to search all IT assets that are connected to the network, including hardware details and software versions that helping us keep track of all our assets. The user interface is a bit outdates and controls are not exactly intuitive.

We use Lansweeper in the company for several functions, among them it is related to the inventory and control of all assets in our network (Desktops, Notebooks, Servers, Switches, IP Phone, Materials in stock...) in addition to keeping the monitoring of our environment VMware Hypervisor. We recommend using Lansweeper for a company's entire IT environment by taking inventory of assets online. Lansweeper enabled us to successfully pass 5 Microsoft audits in compliance.
  • Remote management of servers and workstations
  • Licensing Control
  • centralized management dashboard
  • Lack of more details in the reports
  • Active Directory central management role
  • System management with detailed ACLs for multi-users with different types of permissions and responsibilities

LANSweeper Is currently used as an inventory system for our entire WAN. Every computer reports in to LANSweeper when someone logs in. LANSweeper is also configured to randomly scan our network for new devices. We use it to monitor issues like drive space, toner levels, and Antivirus status. For an inexpensive solution, LANSweeper really a one-stop shop for a lot of necessities.
  • Inventory - LANSweeper scans the network for devices - anything with an SNMP trap or using AD or local credentials. We can get an in-depth look at devices.
  • Reporting - LANSweeper can generate just about any report you can imagine. We can check RAM in groups and determine where upgrades are needed. We can find local printers (which aren't allowed on our network) and address that issue with the user. We can check CPU type to help determine end of life without our network.
  • Printers - It's nice to have a quick look at printer statuses. Toner levels, out of paper, and service errors are all reported via LANSweeper.
  • LANSweeper has a tendency to be extremely slow sometimes. We are running it in a 2016 VM. It has plenty of RAM, CPU, and Storage. However I believe it would benefit from living on an SQL server instead of a local lite instance of SQL.
  • I wish there were more details in the printer reports. It is definitely a bit lacking.
  • It's hard to balance the auto-removal of items from LANSweeper. This isn't necessarily LANSweeper's fault. But sometimes you want to keep record of devices for a period after they're gone. Sometimes, you just want to wipe the slate clean of old items and start over.
  • The Helpdesk system needs a LOT of improvement. We used it for two years. This year, we did not renew. It is comical looking with its colors and large fonts. It is difficult to sort through tickets. I hope it gets better in time. I like having it integrated into the inventory system.
Because of its slowdown as we have acquired more equipment, I think LANSweeper may be better suited for smaller environments. We have 3000+ users and over 1500 devices on our WAN. It has shown considerable performance issues as we have grown. Maybe moving it to a full blown SQL instance will make things a bit better. But as it stands, it has gotten tiresome waiting for it to update and refresh.

Lansweeper is used for many IT functions. It shows me all my network-connected devices, including details about my PC's and Servers. I can see what processor, RAM, and Hard drives they have, so if I'm planning to upgrade, this makes it easier. I can also see who is logged on to that PC and its IP address. It also scans the PC's for what software they have and if the hard drive is full. You can create canned or custom reports using simple SQL code that many users provide to create the reports and alerts. I have one alert that tells me if a printer is getting low on toner. Another that looks at my domain server for any users that have locked their account. I also have a very nice helpdesk module that you can also create reports and alerts on. Lansweeper is so easy to create what you need due to the SQL aspect of it. And if you have less than 100 devices, it's free.
  • Helpdesk - Easy to create tickets or projects and manipulate them even links to a calendar to schedule events.
  • Reports and Alerts are so customizable, and you can download tones of them online. Any reports can be turned into an alert that can be emailed to you IF something matches your criteria.
  • Network device tracking to see what you have and details about them are excellent, and set up was fast and straightforward as it scanned my network easily.
  • Tracking what software you have. Other software tracking programs I have used gave too much info; this gives you only what you need to see about what software it finds. And yes, you can create more custom reports or alerts.
  • Great for Scorcarding due to the reports you can make
  • You get alerts from Lansweeper of major software updates and the SQL code to copy and create a report to check all your PC's to see if they have the right updates.
  • The menu bar is too bunched up, and it uses a hover over to pull-down menus. I'm always hovering over the wrong thing and have to move my mouse away then go back to hover or click on what I want.
  • I would like to turn off the hover-over on helpdesk tickets. It pops up too fast before I can ready my support ticket subjects.
  • Lansweeper is well suited for any IT department, from small to mid-sized. This would be for that advanced IT person that understands they need to see what's on their network and a little about SQL to create Reports and Alerts.
  • It may be too much for that small 5-10 user company, but remember its free if you have 100 devices or less.

Form helpdesk to an automated inventory scan, Lansweeper has saved us so much time it's immeasurable. We (for the IT department) bought Lansweeper primarily to keep up with software licenses and to manage hardware warranties, but it's a very valuable asset management tool all around. We probably only use a few of its functionality, but it's worth the lesser price just for that.
  • One of the best asset manager
  • Allows you to detect all computers on the network
  • I can't think of anything negative about this product as it does what it is built for.
I am a big fan of software scanning and software license information. Lansweeper saved us dozens of hours of license and asset detail collection so far. All the functionalities are there, and they are flexible but do require some research from time to time. The same goes for deployment and reporting. The tools are there, and quite a lot of default content is available, but if you want to take full advantage of the tool's power, get creative, and do some research.

We are currently utilizing Lansweeper as our go-to IT asset inventory database. Prior to installation, we were able to discern data from Active Directory, countless Excel sheets, and "chicken-scratch" notebooks to track inventory and serials. Lansweeper has allowed us to centralize our inventory into one location, which automatically updates as we make changes to our environment.
  • Scanning and detecting devices on our network - in most cases, it can determine what type of device it is and pull all relevant details from that device into searchable fields.
  • Fantastic support and communication from the vendor - including publishing new report templates monthly that you can import into Lansweeper to assist with security audits and updates.
  • Easy and intuitive helpdesk feature that allows you to track requests against specific assets.
  • The reporting module is very involved - if you're familiar with relational databases, it will help - but for the common user, there isn't a wizard driven process for creating reports.
  • Interface overall is dated - but is still functional. A new, cleaner interface would be welcomed.
  • Really needs an alert module to immediately notify when thresholds have been met - currently, you schedule alerts that check at certain times to see if a threshold has been met - it is not immediate.
Lansweeper I believe is well suited for any environment - its low cost and small footprint make it an easy addition to any organization, big or small, that is looking for an asset inventory solution that can either replace or supplement existing asset management systems. It may not be well suited for situations where a lot of customization is necessary, such as pulling in custom fields or details from equipment that don't reside in a registry.

In our university, Lansweeper is mainly being used for computers and hardware inventory over the network and outside our network. We needed an inventory solution that wasn't requiring the server to probe the clients for security reasons. It's now being used by nearly all our IT staff departments. Also, we needed something where we could show data on multiple angles because we have different IT teams over several buildings that support specific VLANs of machines.
  • Lansweeper is grabbing lots of data from the machines without slowing the network and the client machines. We can easily get all the installed software data, hardware and linked hardware and all the user you can grab from the AD (computer and user).
  • Lansweeper can now scan Windows, Mac and Linux with an agent installed (or not if you want that the server is the one pulling the data).
  • The web interface is really friendly user and offers lots of possibilities to personalize your dashboard as you see fit.
  • Reports engine is really powerful and easy to monitor your machines and also your security issues.
  • I don't know why Lansweeper decided to integrate a helpdesk within its inventory software but I think its a pain cause if you only want to use the inventory, you have to disable several things in your UI.
  • It's using your AD hard. So watch out when you decide to pull data from your AD to complement your LS data cause it's gonna open and close one connection per object which is insane.
  • It would be very helpful to be able to get mobiles linked to LS without having to use hardcore infrastructure provided from Apple and MS.
Lansweeper is well suited for small, medium and large businesses with LAN-only devices and outside as well. It's great to scan all sort of things and reporting them to you in the way you want (graphics, charts, tables, etc.). I have no clue about their help desk features cause we're not using them but I could see a benefit from using one tool for two things. It still has some room for improvement for mobile devices and MacOS and Linux devices scan with agents, but they're working on it so there's hope.

Lansweeper is being used by the IT department for the City. We use it to track IT assets and pull data from it for use in our chargeback calculations. We also utilize it for planning our replacement schedule each year for end-user systems.
  • Automatically scans the network and populates assets with detailed information
  • Checks support sites for remaining warranty on assets and populates that with the asset record
  • When scanning networking equipment as well it links assets to what switch and port they are connected to
  • Use of custom fields and groups for sorting assets
  • Simple to use
  • There is not a clean way to remove assets from active inventory, but keep them in the database.
  • Deleting the asset from the system deletes it from the database.
Pro: Easy to set up and start scanning the network. Multiprotocol support. Multi-device support. Linking assets such as monitors to the desktop they are connected to. Linking devices to the switch and port they are connected to.

Con: Price is making a large jump this year. Needs a better way to remove assets from reporting when retired without removing it completely from the database.

Lansweeper is currently being used by my organization as our main inventory tool. Let me say from the very start that I did not configure Lansweeper for us, so my obervations and reviews are based on the current configuration that we use and what I have done with it. We do not use the software deployment features, only the inventory, but for what we use it for it works very well. I run it from a virtual server, and I can check to see how many PCs have what software installed, I can see a current users PC name, or vice versa, and see a certain PC's current user. I can also set up collections based on software.
  • Keeps track of PCs via Active Directory
  • Tells who is currently logged into a certain PC
  • Shows what software is installed on a certain PC
  • Results are not instant, meaning they take time to scan
  • Purging is not accurate. I have seen machines show up that have been off the domain for weeks
  • The interface could be more intuitive
Lansweeper would be ideal for an educational setup, for example, where there are just a few VLANs where nothing is moved around. Lansweeper will suffice, but is not ideal for a call center enterprise scenario where a company owns sites in several different locations, with many different VLANs, and is moving machines back and forth between locations.

We selected Lansweeper after reading reviews and talking to other users. It was being used to address license compliance in our varied network which included a few business units, mobile users, and home workers. The best thing about Lansweeper is the price - it is cheap. The other thing is that it can pick up all the hardware assets on our network and we can make a diagram about where everything resides. However, we found that agentless has a huge drawback - it will only scan what it can see. In our varied network, we didn't see some users for weeks, other networks and business units were invisible and this really wasn't a product for our environment. We needed agents.
What really hit home was the recognition or lack of. Microsoft recognition was not bad but the datacenter needed total manual intervention. Office 365 wasn't picked up and no usage statistics. Anything beyond Microsoft/Adobe Acrobat/Sophos was a challenge. In conclusion, if you're 50 or 100 users, go for Lansweeper. If more complex, don't waste time or embarrassment in having to change the product later.
  • Picks up items on the network such as switches printers. I like the fact that toner is running low but to a large business like ours, that doesn't make much difference. For small businesses, that would be good.
  • Connects to Dell/HP to get warranty info. Not always but good to see some areas populated.
  • The scan is quite quick, will bring back some useful data.
  • Can only scan what it sees. Doesn't show every item on the machine. Patches are also absent.
  • Software Recognition is OK with Microsoft. It is dire within our network of multiple products. Recognition is at about 35% with constant manual work needed to baseline for each manufacturer in each network
  • Datacenter compliance is a manual project. We used Excel extensively.
  • License optimization is limited to installations v surplus licenses. We need to know who's using what and how.
Suited for the basic x86 environment of Windows machines and those looking for hardware discovery. I would say 150 to 200 device companies it is recommended. Unfortunately, for our environment, it lacks the detailed data, software recognition, coverage and functionality to be considered encompassing.

We use lansweeper as a monitoring, alerting and asset management tool. The product is used only by our IT department (systems and network administrators). This tool helps our help desk technicians easily find a user or computer, find necessary information about configuration, membership, network information, etc. We have several branch offices and lansweeper helps us with asset management and physical inventory. It allows us to build and run different types of reports that are being requested by IT managers. Also, we are using this tool as an event collection and alerting system. It's easy to configure and use; does not require additional deep education to be used for Tier 1 level of support. The web interface allows us to use this tool from any endpoint within the company's network.
  • Easy and quick configuration
  • A large number of tools available for administration
  • An excellent scanner that does not overload endpoints
  • Ability to create very detailed custom reports
  • All the infrastructure information in one place
  • I would like lansweeper to be more flexible to combine assets to logical groups (PCs, monitors, IP phones and users)
It is the best tool that is used for collecting initial information about users or devices. Well done cross references. We are never faced with any serious issues using this product for our internal purposes.

We use Lansweeper to manage our infrastructure. It allows us to pull useful reports, push software and manage our assets all in one easy to use interface. I have used similar products and Lansweeper is just as good if not better than its competition.
  • Automatically scans and detects new assets.
  • A powerful reporting tool. You will have to be familiar with power-shell.
  • Push software to machines. Saving us time.
  • Ease of use - pushing software can be a complicated process.
  • Detecting assets sometimes means going to each machine on opening ports on the firewall.
  • Reporting can be hard to figure out but you can ask on their forum. I find that a lot of my questions already have been asked.
I believe that Lansweeper met our budget and needs adequately. Keep in mind that there is a high learning curve. We were able to learn the software due to our large and talented IT team. The reporting can make those dull jobs a breeze. Software pushing can save time and frustration.

Lansweeper is being used in various ways throughout my organization. In our IT department, we are using it for discovering and maintaining our software licenses, tracking support needs through the help desk feature, and of course use its capability to inventory our desktop and server infrastructure. We also are using it as a knowledge base for end users.
  • Easy to use.
  • A one stop shop for hardware and software inventory, help desk, and knowledge base.
  • Great tech support.
  • The help desk tool is nice, but setup was a little cumbersome.
  • While their support is great, it's generally only through email.
Lansweeper is well suited for any IT environment. If you want to have a snapshot of what's going on in your network inventory wise, this is your application! If you want a knowledge base, this is your application! If you want a help desk, again, this is your application to try! It really does a lot of things and for the most part does it well!
