The cloud compute marketplace is increasingly crowded, and results are not always consistent - low-cost offerings can look appealing, but my experience of using Linode is that they provide consistently great performance at a price point others can't match. Their portfolio of products is ever-expanding, and yet they are really focussing on being good at a few things rather than blurring heavily into the SaaS approach. I love using Linode for my ephemeral compute requirements, especially when prototyping or performing research and development.
  • High performance Linux based compute
  • Flexible, pay as you go pricing that has become the norm in the industry
  • Great support from real human beings!
  • If you're looking for SaaS, look elsewhere, but that's not what I go to Linode for
  • Storage prices are high
If you want a robust, reliable, high-performance cloud compute solution then I personally feel that Linode is a great place to start. I find them excellent for those variable workloads that come and go, but where you need complete control over the lifecycle of your machines, and flexibility to spin new ones up and shut redundant ones down at will.

Primarily for client web servers.
  • Easy access control panel.
  • Quick and easy upscaling.
  • Fast backup and recovery/rollback process.
  • Logging improvements, metric timers, and further details made available by Longview etc.
Great for spinning up an application server quickly and at a low cost, although it would be good to have reserved instances or be able to pause billing on servers that are shutdown for a period of time.

We have used Linode for hosting web servers, database servers, and Linux servers for the DEV and UAT applications. It provides a large array of services and options to customize the server usage based on the load and requirements.
  • Flexibility to increase the size of the servers based on the application load.
  • Pricing model is really good and very cost effective.
  • Ease of use to implement changes at root level based on the application-specific installations and configurations.
  • Support from the Linode team is really good and responsive.
  • Support for multiple operating systems needs improvement.
  • Documentation needs some improvement with more elaborative flow diagrams and examples about niche functionalities.
  • A considerable amount of training and study is required by the engineers to initially set up and start working on the servers.
Linode is well suited for small to medium-sized projects/enterprises. It offers a very cost-effective solution for your business-critical deployments. They have rock-solid hardware that is capable of handling large data loads while maintaining consistent performance.

We have used Linode for database and web server deployments on Linux servers. It is a fast, powerful, and consistent solution that has helped us to easily manage critical web applications and heavy user loads with ease. It is very easy to scale the resources by performing simple steps on the dashboard.
  • Wide variety of servers and options to choose from.
  • Excellent support for fixing up the server related issues.
  • Extensive set of options available for different operating systems.
  • Very user-intuitive dashboard for managing the servers.
  • Easy to shrink and expand the server without much effort/issues.
  • Linode does not have a presence and availability in different geographic locations, hope they have the same soon.
Linode is well suited for deploying applications where project teams want flexibility and ease to make the root level changes and manage the server as per their convenience and requirements. Overall, satisfied with the performance, go for it!

I use Linode in deploying a cloud VPS with a pre-installed Azuracast application. Also, I've tried Linode for deploying Cyberpanel in a Linux VPS. As a freelance webmaster, I use the VPS for my personal project websites. Deploying a VPS at Linode is so easy and lightning fast. I can choose the location of the data center where your audience target is close to that data center location. Linode frees me from manually deploying a Linux Ubuntu variant. With its wide array of applications in the marketplace, I just have to choose how I use my VPS with the application that suits my need.
  • Many locations of datacenter
  • Wide selection of pre-installed applications in the marketplace
  • Price is very affordable.
  • User interface in the account panel is easy to understand.
  • Fast server
  • Linode provides tutorials for new users thru Youtube channel.
  • Payment is per usage, not monthly.
  • Responsive customer service
  • I have not succeeded in using the DNS of Linode with a website not hosted in their server. I hope their DNS is as user-friendly as DO and Vultr.
  • Cloud storage user interface is not as easy as DO. I want to see their cloud storage on a pay-per-usage scheme, not monthly.
  • For VPS, I wish Linode to increase the SSD space storage of their basic VPS larger than those of competitors.
Linode is great for those who want to save money even in embarking on large-scale projects. You don't need an expensive dedicated server if you have a VPS on Linode. For those who just start making websites and applications, Linode is a great place to learn by deploying a VPS with a pre-installed script and work on it until you become a master without breaking your wallet. Linode is great for SMEs. I believe Linode can handle corporate requirements but I can't talk about it as my experience with Linode is limited to my personal projects.

We use Linode for hosting multiple projects that require simple virtual machine environments. In particular, it is useful for some of our smaller and/or more custom projects. Its affordability, plus straight forward setup process makes it appealing when compared to more expansive service offerings like Google Cloud or Amazon Web Services.
  • Extremely simple setup.
  • Backup snapshotting as an add-on feature.
  • Recovery controls for systems that are inaccessible via SSH.
  • Web interface design is clunky.
  • Knowing when to upgrade VMs is often unclear.
  • Pricing for some features feel poorly gradated.
Linode is great to have around as a long-running virtual machine for hosting small projects, proof of concepts, and as a general sandbox for in-development web services. It can also be used to tunnel TLS connections, host highly customized server environments, and serve web projects that have well-known resource requirements.

This is one platform to manage and monitor all Linux servers across our organization. It makes a single pane of glass a reality and gives us peace of mind. I like that the VPS allows more flexibility than some of the big guys for the public cloud. We use this to solve scalable and easy to deploy workloads for our dev team.
  • Customer service
  • Deployment
  • Scalability
  • More detailed walkthroughs
  • More easy to to plan downtime and maintenance
  • Gives users more status updates on health
Linode is well suited if you are a Linux shop and if you are not I would recommend going elsewhere. If you are looking for a lower budget option this is also a good fit. If you are not familiar with runbooks and Linux deploys you will want to go elsewhere.

Linode allows me to give dedicated VPSs to my customers to solve their web hosting, email, and other needs. I use it for hosting our own corporate email and I recommend it to others in my industry looking for economical VPSs.
  • Speed of turn-up. It's instantly on!
  • Fast support.
  • Highly competent support
  • I would like to see VPSs offered in eastern Europe and Asia.
  • I would like to see cheaper bulk storage options, similar to TransIP
For most situations, Linode is a great option. However, when I need to have a site in Eastern Europe or Asia, it's just not as good as other providers. Smaller VPS's tend to not be given higher bandwidth; it seems the cheaper your VPS at Linode, the less likely you are to get decent bandwidth. For computationally-intensive work, I might as well buy a local server.

I used Linode dedicated CPU VPSs to back test and run algorithmic trading strategies.
  • Easy VPS instance creation and management.
  • Good uptime track record.
  • Good VPS performance.
  • Linode does not provide easy image snapshot storage like DigitalOcean. That is a greatly missed feature.
Because of its ease of use it is very well suited for prototyping/experimenting.

[Linode is used] to run remote services for household users.
  • Ease of use
  • Straight forward billing
  • Comparable service features to "high end" providers
  • A distinguishing UI... or more detailed for advanced users or more simple for the novice users.
  • More pre-fab images to deploy.
  • More a-la-carte options per node.
I might not say "industry standard", but for someone with some knowhow that might be a bit more independent in regards to technology I would highly recommend [Linode]. for someone a bit more novice, it would be a harder recommendation even if a better value.

Linode has been a trusted provider of cloud based infrastructure to our company for over 10 years. We have seen Linode grow from a small reliable cloud provider into a full featured platform with the same reliability and support. We no longer need to worry about hosting our software in house because Linode is a more cost effective platform.
  • Support! Always quick responses from support.
  • Stability - In 10 years, I can count the downtown on one hand.
  • Easy! Need more resources? Click a button and reboot.
  • I'd like to see billing in local currency.
Linode is well suited for growth. You can easily start small while you are getting set up and Linode has everything you need to grow. More resources are readily available when needed. Linode's large worldwide footprint allows you to host where your customers are.

I find that Linodes block offerings are not as robust as they should be with a minimum block of 250gb.

We have three primary Linode servers: one to host our main webpage and front facing user tools, another to provide backend support for our online tools, and a third for development and testing. Since the nodes are so flexible to setup and configure, we can easily add new servers, or modify existing ones, to meet our changing needs.
  • Affordable.
  • Easy to configure.
  • Reliable.
  • Easier access to support.
  • More data centers.
  • Timelier responses.
Based on our experience, Linode is perfect for businesses with modest needs, but considering how well even the most affordable server options handle traffic, I’m sure they can also handle more robust scenarios.

We use Linode to host several servers. It allows us to develop and host websites for our customers and make a profit.
  • They make it extremely easy to setup and deploy server instances.
  • Pricing is very competitive.
  • They have many service/product offerings..
  • I love how they are constantly adding more services/value.
  • I wouldn't call this an improvement request as much as a want. I'd like to see Linode offer a reselling option.
  • I feel like your larger server offerings (mainly large server hard drive space) are overpriced.
  • I'd like to see better interface (built-in) for using object storage device.
The price for the service is perfect and the tech support is second to none. Plus, the service is always on point.

Linode handles our hosting for a variety of applications, including incubating web applications to be marketed and intranet utilities. In a pinch, it sometimes also serves as a temporary remote desktop for contractors.
  • Customer service has always been knowledgeable enough to help us make decisions.
  • Prices are reasonable and Linode has fought to stay competitive.
  • Servers have been exceptionally stable.
  • Disk space quotas are insufficient for significant work, and block storage is too expensive
  • While fine for us, leaving an average user to manage a Linux system is a recipe for frustration
  • It would be great if the parameters for each VPS could be purchased/modified separately; some projects warrant a large CPU and low bandwidth, others the opposite
  • If a user runs a relay of some sort (such as Tor), it tends to cause problems where the user is legally responsible for any traffic passing through, but all abuse claims are filtered through Linode, frustrating them and delaying results.
We find Linode perfect for prototyping, simple web hosting, and as a temporary computer for short-term projects. In those cases, I don't think there has been any hesitation in recommending it to others. If the project requires large data storage, high reliability in the face of disasters, or the ability to only run when requested, a VPS is the wrong product. Similarly, if someone is only hosting static resources, a VPS is a good base, but there are cheaper products that require less management.

Linode is currently being used as the primary development platform relating to client websites and WordPress plugin development. By leveraging its flexibility to conveniently spin up new server environments, it serves as the perfect platform to fine tune various client configurations in isolation. Linode is also recommended as one of the potential web hosting providers for clients that have outgrown the limits of shared hosting and are in need of dedicated resources and consistent stability.
  • Flexibility and ease of use to quickly spin up new server instances.
  • Stability and uptime are almost perfect, but if some issue arises, customer support goes above and beyond to troubleshoot.
  • Pricing is transparent and generous resources in bandwidth offer peace of mind.
  • Different server configuration packages to fine tune to needs (e.g., high CPU, high RAM, etc.).
  • Ability to move up and down between packages easily depending on traffic.
  • Super fast SSD hardware.
  • Storage space can be limiting on lower-end plans
  • Backup feature is very limiting and can only restore in full to specific days as defined by linode (e.g. cannot restore to a backup from 2 days ago - only yesterday, 7 days ago, etc)
  • Backup feature cannot restore individual files - the entire server has to be restored
  • Can be challenging for business owners with little sysadmin knowledge. Requires some knowledge/reading of various guides to properly secure the server
Linode is great for business owners (or have team members) with some technical skills who have outgrown what shared hosting provides. It offers power and an environment similar to a physical dedicated server but without the high upfront costs of purchasing the hardware and networking. Unlike a dedicated server, it is also very easy (with very little downtime) to migrate up or down packages as needs change. This process is completely automatic and requires no user intervention. Linode is also a great platform for cloud/compute applications without worrying about usage billing, as you would with AWS.

However, with great power comes some responsibility. While it's definitely doable, there is a bit of a learning curve to secure and optimize the resources available. Luckily, there are hundreds of great guides on Linode but the service is still a significant departure if you're used to "one click" interfaces that are commonly available through shared hosting providers.

Linode is used by our entire organization to host all our apps in the cloud. We have a variety of apps including VPN, apache servers, MySQL databases, NodeJS applications, smtp server, load balancer, and static websites hosted on linode across different geographical locations including Toronto, New Jersey and Sydney. We have tried different services like AWS and digital ocean but we found Linode to be reliable and has great customer support.
  • excellent price/performance
  • excellent customer support
  • reliable
  • not enough data centers compared to competition
  • some data centers are old
  • monitoring (Longview) cost money while others don't - free version isn't good
Linode is really good if you want a great reliable cloud VPS that has great price/performance. It is considerably cheaper and more reliable than the VPS solutions on AWS. However, you have to be able to manage your own servers - make security and maintenance updates yourself - if you don't know that, you'd better go serverless.

Linode has been used to entirely replace our hardware in house, we now use Linode exclusively for all of our hosting needs.
  • Linode offers what you need when you need it, and their various price points mean you don't need to maintain systems you aren't using, and the fact that you can scale up or down at any time makes it a no-brainer.
  • There are times I'd like to provision a unit with specific specs (such as more storage, or more CPUs, or extra RAM), and while you can add storage easily enough once your system is set up, changing RAM or CPUs is problematic, you basically need to delete and recreate a system, loosing all of your work done up to that point.
  • Their API is nice too, but I can't find any way to do custom things with the API, such as monitor CPU usage and spin up another instance when it reaches a certain point.
  • I've also not figured out how to tie multiple instances together to serve multiple users transparently. That doesn't mean it's not available, it just means I've not found it yet.
Linode is well suited to organizations with light web traffic because you can have a single instance for next to nothing every month, saving all kinds of infrastructure costs, but it doesn't limit you in any way, if you outgrow that small install, you can always make another (larger) instance and replace your existing one.

I mostly use Linode for test and development purposes although I also have my both my business and personal web/email server running on a Linode.
More recently, for personal/hobby use, I have been using their Nvidia RTX 6000 GPU VMs to render my Blender 3D creations in as it is a huge cost saving over using a cloud render farm and I can use whatever version of Blender I want rather than the old LTS version.
  • Australian based datacentre
  • Helpful customer services
  • Very quick to spin up a new VM
  • Competitive pricing structure
  • Flat pricing structure. (I have developed a loathing for cost calculators over the years. Yes! I am talking about AWS and Google Cloud!)
  • Nvidia RTX 6000 GPU VMs!!!
  • A Graphical console (GLISH) that can be used for starting/debugging applications that require OpenGL
  • The (new) 'create custom image' function needs a bit of work before it is useable.
  • New accounts have limited features until a support requested is made to turn specific ones on. It would be useful to have an account page that tells you what is disabled so unpleasant surprises are not had at the pointy end of a deadline.
  • Stackscripts would be better if it more info was transferred to the script. Eg the Linode Label given, plan requested, etc. But now I am just nit-picking
I am sure Google, Microsoft and Amazon's services are probably more cost effective in the long term or possibly the very short term. But if you don't have an entire tech team behind you or the time to figure out the cost calculator Linode is a good option. They are also currently pretty competitive on price.
If you are a competent Linux user then these VMs are a good option. I have now switched all my webservices to a $5/mo Nanode and it is serving me well.
If you do not have the knowledge to install Apache and some internet security then possibly not the best option.
If you are a Blender user and want to rent an NVidia RTX 6000 (or 4) for a few hours then it is also a good option!

As our main product is an education platform, we need to host the website. The site being a heavyweight application, I can't use typical hosting. So we buy VPS from Linode. Linode is one of the best in the market according to our need because our platform is non-profit, so we can't afford big servers all month long. Linode gives us the flexibility to resize servers when the load increases. Our site is built with PHP and we have built a deployment cycle in our Linode, so the development process has been so [much] easier.
  • Pricing
  • Resizing Feature
  • One Click App Installation
  • Free OS-Image Storage
  • Pricing
  • Managed Database Service
  • Multiple OS options in one click apps
[If] you need a server with minimal pricing, for testing or something - Linode is for you. [If] you need root level permission to run your app and modify the system as you want - Linode is for you.

[If] you want one click docker hosting or [a] highly scalable system, Linode might not be the best choice. Yet you can do it by yourself, it's just not automated yet. Go for Azure/AWS

We use Linode to host some of our infrastructure. We also used Linode to host services for our clients, as we are a web development agency. Regarding our direct experience, we host 4 servers and other internal services for more than 1 year. We have 2 other clients hosting their infrastructure in Linode, mostly using cloud servers.
  • Control panel is simple and easy to use
  • They provide a good range of hosting services and options
  • Response time is good in their support channels
  • Initial configuration for email ports in servers is hard to manage, you need to open a ticket to handle it correctly
  • Missing on-demand databases
  • Missing on-demand datastores, like redis or memcache
  • Stackscripts looks cool, but I'd like a curated list to trust
Well suited if you need a good balance between ease of use, good technical profile, performance and quality of service.
If you need something more complex, you end up falling into AWS or digital ocean as they offer a wider range of services, being DO a serious competitor because of their database offering.

Back when we first started to use Linode, the very first impression I got was the cut on the hosting costs. The fact that we came to the understanding that we can host quite a lot of virtualized hosts on a single server, saved us a lot of hassle and money, so we slowly started to migrate to Linode, starting with 1 server, ending up with up to having more than 10 at some point.
  • It's mostly up! When you use other providers you'll notice that [difference].
  • The free hardware upgrade.
  • Pricing.
  • Never managed to get LongView to work.
  • Easy Container-based server setups.
  • Better UX in the panel.
Considering the cost, Linode was always the best option, also their support actually does reply to your tickets and sometimes go a bit more ahead to dig a bit deeper to fix your own issue instead of telling you it's not their fault and you should fix the issue yourself.

If you are not into maintaining servers yourself when it comes to networking and security, you're better off with another vendor, but if you know what you're doing, there's no better option rather than Linode. [I've] tried many different vendors throughout the years but Linode is always my go-to option if the project scale allows.

We use Linode as an organization to deploy our web content. This includes a website, G Suite applications, and internally managed applications that support teachers and students in our organization. Our website is our main content managed through Linode, but the advantage to a flexible VPS like Linode is the ability to easily add and adjust content whenever it is convenient.
  • Easy to use Dashboard with readily accessible information.
  • Strong support team that responds quickly to any and all issues.
  • Versatile platform that can cater to the needs of any company.
  • Steep learning curve for new users.
  • Complex set of options that take time to understand.
  • Some platform updates need explaining when first released.
The great think about Linode's VPS service is that it can fit almost any scenario you can imagine. We started by just using WordPress for our website, but as we saw other needs it was so easy to find open source software that met those varied needs. The scenarios are almost limitless.

Linode provides the virtual private server (VPS) for our websites and other online servers.
  • Amazing service- tickets are dealt with promptly, politely, and with positive resolutions.
  • Reliable, easy to manage, and with superb value for money. Many services are charged by usage- e.g., I needed to enable backup while resolving an issue with our regular backup strategy. $5/month was very reasonable- but I only needed it for a few days. Happily surprised when the bill was only ~25 cents more because the $5 was prorated!
  • Solid self-serve management options.
  • One-click marketplace to deploy many popular web services.
  • Good documentation.
  • Availability of servers around the world.
  • More documentation- I sometimes find myself finding answers on other virtual private server providers' websites.
Anytime you need a server, especially if it needs to be remotely accessed.
