  • The documentation is excellent, especially as it covers not just how to use Linode but how to work with Linux, Apache, Nginx, etc.
  • It's sooooo much easier to do things in Linode than similar tasks in AWS. The structure of how the service works and the representation of it within the UI is simple and really easy to understand.
  • The ticket/notification system is quite good. I like combining notifications about server events (rebooted, etc.) with support conversations.
  • I'd like to see Linode offer S3-like file storage.
  • There's a bit too much maintenance, scheduled and otherwise, that I've experienced, especially stuff that requires server migration that takes far too long for large servers. Most recently in order to not have excessive downtime I was compelled to do my own migration on a rushed time schedule in order to avoid Linode's mandatory downtime for a migration.
  • I'd like Linode to be FedRamp certified.

  • Flexibility--I can set up applications and manage them as I see fit.
  • Economy--the cost of running a Linode server with adequate resources is quite low.
  • Up time--the Linode servers and their networks rarely seem to be offline, which is important to my business.
  • Support--each time I have had an issue, usually of my own making, the Linode team has addressed it in a timely and professional manner.
  • To be honest, I have no suggestions for making Linode better though, as any consumer would agree, if it dropped in cost I would not fuss.

  • Fully customizable server configuration.
  • Range of server plans based on specific needs.
  • Extensive help center with guides for a range of use cases.
  • Easy to configure reverse DNS.
  • Easy to swap IP4 addresses with an existing Linode when building a replacement one.
  • Wish we could swap IP6 addresses as well (not just IP4).
  • When rebuilding a Linode, would be nice to use a Marketplace app (seems to be available only when creating a new Linode).
  • Need better documentation of Marketplace apps, especially settings during creation phase.

  • Cost. Linode offers many of the same services as "other" cloud providers, but does so at a much reduced rate.
  • Linux. I have been a heavy Linux advocate since 1999, and Linode fits that profile as well.
  • Familiarized operation. Working with my Linode VMs feels more like working on a physical or VM server than I have found with "other" cloud providers, and the Linode web console provides the information I need to manage those devices without overwhelmingly cluttering screens with multitudes of options that don't apply to those needs.
  • I would like an option to add more memory (such as 1G) to an existing VM instead of increasing the entire VM to the next level. For example, I have a Linode 2GB system with 50G of storage. That VM has plenty of storage, but could use another 1G of RAM, however it really doesn't need to be bumped to the 4GB plan as the extra 30G of storage, and even some of extra 2G of RAM that comes with that plan would not be utilized. Allowing a "partial" increase of of those two options would be great if available.

  • Linode servers are easy to configure. It comes with a stable OS on which you can install exactly the services you need to install.
  • It is cheaper than other cloud VMs like AWS and Azure.
  • Performance of the VMs is good. You could host small apps on the smallest linode which costs $5 per month.
  • The blob storage should have pay for how much you use.
  • There should be a email service like there Simple Email Service in AWS
  • There should be option to scale down to save on costs in off seasons.

  • Reliability - this is key for us as any downtime effects our reputation
  • Simplicity to scale services - the interface is very quick and effective to use
  • Keeps the costs down - hosting our own equivalent infrastructure would cost a lot more
  • Lack of Cloud Firewall - this was missing for quite some time, and although it is available now, it did mean we had to migrate a few of our services away to DigitalOcean at the time

  • Linode servers are easy to configure.
  • Easy to expand and decrease without much trouble.
  • Overall performance is great on VM machines, and easy to spin off clones.
  • Great support.
  • Intuitive backend interface.
  • Servers maintaining email services tend to regularly get blacklisted, which makes me wonder what kind of vetting and/or response they do to spam-based applications on other VMs.
  • Overall, amazing servers although recently they have had serious repeated issues with US sites which is frustrating.
  • Additional locations in Canada would be ideal.

  • Very competitive pricing
  • Responsive support team
  • Lots of useful guide documents available
  • A huge range of supported platforms
  • VM management interface is often changed and often not for the better
  • No cross-site migration capability
  • Limited EU data centers
  • Resize of a VM may be easy but requires outage

  • The documentation to get you started is very good. Detailed enough to get you off the ground and not too bulky to bog you down.
  • Pricing and Billing very clear and fair.
  • The Linode platform is not complicated. You are just shown what you need to see at any point in time.
  • I get a ton of emails about Linode server issues and because of the quantity of notifications, it's hard for me to sift through them to know what one is related to my server or which of them I should be concerned about.
  • I need a notification that tells me my server is not being used and it's one wasting money. I don't get that notification.
  • Apart from these two, I don't really have any cons for Linode. It's great for the things I do.

  • Predictable monthly cost (easy to plan and control).
  • Intuitive work flow and console (no/little learning curve).
  • Provide variants of Linux flavors (best choice for those using less popular distro).
  • The only IaaS that provide Gentoo distro out of the box (as far as I know).
  • Good customer services, friendly and polite (far better than the top 3 IaaS providers as of 2021).
  • Network performance. This is the only problem we're facing in Linode, not all nodes will faced the issue, but some nodes. In short, it's nearly 20% will be facing network performance issue in certain areas.
  • Price in additional storage ($0.10/GB) is too high compare to others.
