  • Incredible hardware speed and scalability
  • Fair pricing
  • Easy management
  • VPS scaling down or up should be smoother and faster
  • True billing per minute or second of VPS usage with a cheap persistent storage

  • Most communication: Maintenance, vulnerabilities that may impact us, etc.
  • Reliability: None of their data centers have burned down.
  • Most of our problems have been resolved promptly.
  • No U2F authentication
  • No ISO mounting or iPXE scripts
  • Quirky DNS+DHCP
  • Outages affecting few customers are still outages. Communicate about those too.

  • New dashboard has a clean, easy to navigate UI.
  • Support seems to be attentive, proactive, and fair.
  • Resources, such as support docs, are a nice touch and are mostly up-to-date.
  • IPv4 addresses given have been clean and pass spam blacklists.
  • SSH keys feature under 'My Profile' hasn't reached its potential, e.g. if you want to add more than one user to a machine during deployment.
  • A review of currently available support docs and updating them for the latest (stable) distros would be good.

  • Extremely reliable.
  • We are kept up to date about upgrades and their likely effect on uptime.
  • They are extremely fast at fixing any unexpected problems that occur and keeping us up to date.
  • Their competitors offer cheap managed services such as databases, Redis, etc. and I’d like to see Linode take on this.

  • Right products: The breadth of their offerings is pretty complete. Some are a little rough around the edges or don't stack up to some of their competitors' but, overall, the capabilities offered by their product offerings are pretty amazing.
  • Great support: It's timely, friendly, and knowledgeable. As an infrastructure provider, they generally stay away from issues regarding your application(s) or set up but sometimes, if the stars align, you will get advice on those things as it pertains you your specific situation. The support reps go above and beyond.
  • Flexible environment: I can do what I want when I want for as long as I need it. There are no fixed contract terms. I pay as I go and stop paying when I don't need a particular service or product anymore.
  • Support of OSs besides Linux: I really would like to see support for other open-source OSs...most notably *BSD. Some of their competitors offer this but the competition's services are either too limited or too expensive.
  • Off-site backups: Backups are kept in the same datacenter on a different machine. I would really like to see them be kept off-site (even in a different datacenter) to maximize the protection backups offered.
  • Keeping documentation updated: This is a continuous battle and Linode does better than most by keeping all their docs at https://github.com so that customers can update them and initiate "pull requests" to install updates.

  • Incremental backup schedules.
  • Larger disks on standard Linodes for media heavy, low processing environments.

  • Ultimate flexibility my giving me a cloud connected Linux computer.
  • Very simple to stand up new services (nodes, balancers, DNS, etc.).
  • Insanely good documentation for a variety of things that extends even beyond doing things on Linode.
  • Fremont is definitely more stable than it had been, but still has its blips.
  • Admin integration with letsencrypt SSL for balancers would be awesome.
  • As far as I'm aware, you still can't run geotargeted balancers across different server domains (I can't make a Linode CDN).

  • When I started searching for a hosting provider to replace what I was using at Yahoo, I looked for someone who was inexpensive and offered web and database software. Linode was selected as it met these objectives.
  • Since I started with Linode, the UI and services provided have become more beneficial. I have used DNS, backup and the scripting for provisioning new servers.
  • As time went on, my need to provide the service to my client diminished and I wanted to maintain a small footprint, ideally with a low cost backup so I could easily spin up the resources if I needed them in the future. This wasn't as cheap or easy as I wanted.

  • Their pricing is more fair and logical than their competitors.
  • They have some of the fastest data centers I've used.
  • Their build tools are my favorite among their competition.
  • They lack Windows based servers.
  • They lack more advanced features.
  • Some of their current features tend to be shallow.

  • Servers are fast.
  • Scaling is quick.
  • Support is responsive.
  • API is flexible allowing for nice integrations.
  • Internal networking is difficult. Private network is not as private as we would like.
  • Some features require enabling for all servers, instead of just a few.

  • Support. Not only they're kind and polite, they are effective and helpful.
  • Features. We've been 10 years with them, and always found what we were looking for.
  • Uptime. In 10 years of service we haven't had any unexpected service disruption.
  • Transparency. Every issue or mantainance task is published in their status page.
  • Pricing of the managed service. The service is really great, but you have to pay for every VPS in your account, even for the small ones that you don't need managed service for.
  • Longview graphs. The tool is awesome and very complete. Maybe it could offer more detailed granularity for historical data.
  • Hardware migrations. They are properly announced and effectively done. It would be nice not having any downtime. That's an utopia, right?

  • Forward thinking, they seem to have all aspects of what you might need covered. Before you even realise yourself.
  • I've used many company's like Linode in the past, note the word past, since moving to linode (8+ years) I have been 110% happy with the services they provide, literally sleep better at night knowing they've got everything covered.
  • Got a question? It's answered before you even ask it, that's how helpful they are!
  • I can't think of any.
