LivePlan has filled the need for quick forecasting for the finance department. It allows the user to easily change assumptions, and forecast not only the income statement but also the balance sheet and cash flow statement. This ability has saved many hours of rebuilding excel models to be able to get management timely answers to scenario testing.
  • Budgeting
  • Forecasting
  • Scenario analysis
  • Cash flow analysis
  • More KPI measurement
  • Including more non-financial data
  • Ability to export formulas to excel
LivePlan works well for companies [that] fit their revenue models. They cover a broad spectrum of budgeting and can do a really good job of asking questions that might be missed doing an excel budget. They can accurately give cash flow timing differences from payments from customers, and calculate payroll estimates in detail. On the other hand, if you have a very specific business model, this may not work well for you. There were a few instances where I had to work around their software to get the answers I was looking for, but overall I think it is a fantastic tool for the price.

LivePlan is my primary financial forecasting and issue raising tool. I build out annual Pro-forma in Q4 with detailed revenue and expense category forecasts. The ability to build revenue and expense forecasts by category and the appropriate level of detail is highly useful. Monthly, and especially quarterly, we can see if and where we are off track relative to original goals and make necessary adjustments in the business. In my opinion, this is the best tool of its kind for business owners/operators. Well done.
  • It integrates with accounting software.
  • Shows appropriate levels in depth analysis.
  • UX: It's beyond time for an overhaul, especially on mobile. It can make the app seem dated.
  • The accounting software integration has been prone to break and need to be re-setup, though that seems to have improved.
It's most appropriate when properly set up by someone with a deep knowledge of PNL/Forecasting.
It's inappropriate for companies with poorly structured/inconsistently maintained financial statements.

Liveplan is used across the organization. Its purpose is to define our core business and to be our guidance for future decisions. In the beginning it was used just to write our business plan for our startup in order to present it to investors, now we use it to track our progress over time.
  • Great for startups that are still working on their idea.
  • Preparing for pitching and presenting.
  • People don't need business knowledge in order to write a professional business plan, everything is explained in details.
  • Simplicity.
  • It is software on its own and there are no abilities to connect to any other software so you have to input data constantly.
  • If you start within this software most likely over time this will be just your reference for the definition of your business, once you start growing there is not much to use here, better solutions are out there.
  • It is not a management tool as they advertise it.
It is great for startups and people that are still developing ideas. Once you are in the market it does not really have much of a use within an organization, at that stage it just becomes the reference to what core your business is. Tracking business growth is great, but again only for first 1-3 years in the market (depending on growth).
