What is Lucidspark?

Lucidspark is a virtual whiteboard where teams can bring their best ideas to light. Users can collaborate in real-time, no matter where they are. Lucidspark helps people organize notes and scribbles and turn them into presentation-ready concepts. When it’s time for next steps, teams can develop workflows and process documents to turn ideas into reality. Features include integrations, infinite canvas, sticky notes, freehand drawing, chat, templates, timer, voting, Breakout Boards, and more.

With Lucidspark, users can not only brainstorm ideas as a team but then refine and organize those ideas to drive action. Features like assisted grouping and Lucidchart import/export help users turn ideas into plans and strategies.

The flexibility of Lucidspark potentially makes it a great tool for educational presentations that can be projected for a classroom experience and then shared for at-home viewing. However, it is designed and marketed for business collaboration so it does not exactly match the needs of educators. It tends to be a bit more labor-intensive than typical mind mapping software, making the live creation of diagrams during class less efficient.

It’s good for teamwork and collaboration. Especially this tool is very useful for remote teams because everyone can see a whiteboard and everyone can express their opinion and ideas! It also helps when you are starting a new project! Lucidspark can boost the productivity of remote teams! It‘s less suited for presentations.

Lucidspark comes in handy when other collaborative alternatives become less optimised for desktop use. It is well suited for sorting large number of ideation categories with varied colours through its creative templates and tools. It becomes less suitable when involving a good integration with other applications and introduce to new users due to size limitations and UI.

When we plan a difficult task with many steps. I can write down each inbox and connect it as I can and change them. Then predict outcomes and evaluate with friends by sharing task-drawn whiteboards with teams. And team members can draw their ideas and discuss them further. Linking tasks and making flow charts are really helpful.

I've been using Lucidspark for about 7 years as a Business Analyst working on IT projects. The tools are intuitive and easy to learn. It's a fast way to develop wireframes, verify requirements and create a compelling visual environment. I love its full set of shapes, flow diagram objects, and endless whiteboard & its ease of use; it has saved many hundreds of hours and enhanced collaboration with my teams and end-user clients.

Lucidspark makes it so easy to collaborate as a team and brainstorm topics. Rather than having to all get in the same room and whiteboard everything out, it makes it so much easier to all work from wherever we are and work out of the same document. I have used this at my last two companies and will continue to use this product.

It is well suited for scenarios when multiple people need to edit the same chart once, and there is a visual component necessary for the completion of such a project. It is not well suited for creating a large word document with no visual components or when simply one user is editing a document.

I would recommend using Lucidspark if you would like a handy sprint retrospective tool. It has great commenting built-in, voting capabilities, fun emoji as delighters. It also provides a good tool for planning on new flows or integrations, which can link to JIRA tickets (epics/stories) that can be tracked readily from the Lucidspark whiteboard.

I use it to plan and discuss research goals. We outline algorithms and brainstorm alternative approaches. It is really helpful to lay out the overall goals and objectives of a project. We also use it to brainstorm ideas and new programmatic algorithms. It would be really useful to copy code samples into the software especially if there is a way to have it formatted like code.

Lucid (Spark/chart) are my go-to tools. Any new analyst that starts on my team is encouraged to use these tools with their clients. I have even used the mind-mapping function with a CEO early in the project. He told me once he "printed it out" and kept it at his desk to reference daily. In my opinion, it is a powerful tool to help align understanding across multiple stakeholders. I will frequently use Lucidspark (quicky stickie) to take notes "live" while sharing my screen with stakeholders. They absolutely love seeing their ideas displayed back to them. Once the stickies are on the board, we can start categorizing and prioritizing. I also use the board frequently for user story mapping. Partially because of the ease of the quicky stickies. So easy to identify epics, features, stories at a high enough level that clients can better understand the overall scope of their request.

This is well suited for technical discussions that would benefit from visuals. Especially when the visuals need to be created on the fly during an active discussion. Lucidspark may not be needed or useful if communications are primarily over a phone. Lucidspark could be useful for creating visuals for technical documentation.

Lucidspark is well-suited to any collaborative or geographically distributed/remote editing process. Specifically, group feedback and brainstorm events are well-served, as are sprint retrospectives, strategic planning, prioritization, and general process flow and concept development. Lucidspark is less appropriate for individually-delivered or formal presentations. While output canvases can certainly be used for final deliverables, we have not used [them] for anything other than process flow development.
