We are using Mailchimp as our preferred tool for sales and marketing efforts. We currently love the automation process that you can achieve with its easy-to-use interface. We have made several emails to target our franchise leads so they can receive several emails throughout their life-cycle as leads.

Mailchimp also helps us to make on-the-fly emails with its easy-to-use template interface.

You can connect Mailchimp easily with Zapier or Integromat to automate your sales life cycle a little bit more .

Pretty cool application....we definitely recommend it.
  • Templates to create emails
  • Automation of sales cycle
  • Contacts importing and exporting
  • Email design, pretty user friendly interface
  • Contact management
  • Reporting
For sales and marketing departments that would like to automate their initial lead contacts and nurture their relationships in an automated way, this tool is awesome and pretty easy to use. We think that anybody in your marketing department would be delighted to use it since it is very easy to use and configure.

Mailchimp was used by my organization to create professional-looking emails for internal and external communications. We could reach out to customers/prospects after spending just minutes creating a full newsletter or pitch offer emails. The system is nice enough that even our least tech-savvy employees could figure out how to use the platform and our interns to make a clean end-product without any direction.
  • Clean user interface
  • Minimal learning curve
  • Deeper analytics
  • More default templates
Let’s say your salesperson goes out to a networking event and comes back with dozens of business cards. Within a few clicks that person can add those emails to a distribution list, create a clean introduction/follow up email, send and track opens to see if these targets are interacting with the email. You can do that with Mailchimp.

We use Mailchimp for our email blasts and to send out our e-newsletter. Our marketing and communications department uses it and not our whole organization.
  • Great basic email marketing.
  • Easy to use templates.
  • Poor integration with Salesforce.
  • Email deliverability.
I would recommend Mailchimp if you don't need a Salesforce integration. It is best for entry-level email marketing for small and medium businesses.

At the Small Business Help Group, we use Mailchimp to blast email campaigns to both cold and warm leads. I use it to put out new promotions as well as reminders about some of the offers we run. We also use Mailchimp on our website in the way of forms for customers to contact us and to automatically be added to the mailing list for whichever promotion they choose to sign up for.
  • The WordPress plugin that Mailchimp provides makes it easy to set up forms on our site.
  • When a customer enters their information into one of our online forms, they are automatically added to that mailing list.
  • It is very simple to set up new email campaigns with the templates they provide.
  • It can become expensive when you have a lot of users to manage.
  • It would be nice if they had separate pricing for "Warm" and "Cold" Leads.
  • The addition of new email templates would be welcomed.
Mailchimp is best suited to take a user that visits our website and make it appealing enough for them to enter their information into a form to be added to a mailing list. They then make it easy to send an email out to all those who have decided to sign up. Also, it is very easy to retarget that same group of people with future offers.

We are using Mailchimp not only for customer marketing engagement mailings, but also in conjunction with Mandrill (also a Mailchimp offering) to do real-time transactional emails from our various software products. We have created over 300 different application-based emails around things like sign-ups, offers, billing notices, and system-based messages, all populated with variable information pushed from our system.
  • Template design is easy for most levels of users.
  • Duplicating and tweaking templates works very well.
  • Template management is weak--hard to organise and sort templates when you have lots.
  • No ability to search within templates from a high level, tied to difficulty managing large numbers of templates.
Mailchimp is well suited for sending traditional marketing emails to marketing lists. If you are looking to do a regular customer newsletter, or marketing engagement it works very well. It is less appropriate as you scale and get into hundreds and thousands of templates, which become unwieldy to manage. If you want to quickly and easily design a mass mailing to lists of people, this is a great platform. It is flexible enough and integrates with so many platforms that is very possible to do many many different types of emailings.

We use Mailchimp in order to communicate our customers' products and services. It is a valuable service that provides the tools to create, monitor and report on any number of campaigns. The latest additions on automations gives us the power to easily create a series of email campaigns in order to target clients throughout the buyer lifecycle.
  • Ease of use and creation of email newsletters
  • Great features in the area of automations
  • Vast amount of integrations with third party systems (ecommerce, crm, etc.)
  • The ability to store inside Mailchimp external data such as sales that can be used for further segmenting a list
It is well-suited to handle any time of email campaign including automations. The built-in email creation engine offers the right tools and options to create mobile-friendly emails.

It lacks the ability to track extensibly web site activity use. The event tracking is somehow limited. Options like tagging use based on their behaviours on the website (or mobile app) would vastly improve the total feature set.

Mailchimp is used by two departments in our organization: Communications and Development.
Communications utilizes the platform to all our institutional marketing needs. It is the primary marketing tool for our company. We sell tickets to performances, administer surveys, pre & post-show informational emails, and weekly newsletters. The Development department uses Mailchimp for email fundraising campaigns & solicitations.

The platform addresses our need for a single unified contact management and communications system shared across multiple departments. One of the biggest advantages to Mailchimp is the integration with Salesforce/Patron Manager via the "PatronChimp" plugin. This allows us to build contact reports within Salesforce and turn them into Segments for use in Mailchimp, making the mailing list segment dynamic: the list auto-updates based on customer behavior and relationships. Another advantage to this setup the bi-directional updating of contact lists: when emails bounce or recipients unsubscribe via Mailchimp, the contact information is auto-updated in Salesforce.
  • Incredibly easy to create well-designed emails from practical templates
  • Easy use of merge tags, including custom merge tags
  • I would like to see some more user-friendly ways to integrate with social campaigns
  • Mobile design is good, however more mobile-specific templates would be useful.
Mailchimp is an excellent email communications platform for creating easy, industry-standard email campaigns. The list management, segmentation, and merge-tagging are incredibly easy for users at all levels, with options such as social integration for more advanced users. Campaign creation is done through an easy-to-use wizard, and once you have built a few campaigns you can easily re-purpose campaigns and templates, making your workflow even more efficient.
One thing I really like about Mailchimp is the "live merge" preview, which allows you to view specific emails in your campaign with the merge tags integrates. I also like the "Mobile preview" option, which lets you see how your campaign will appear in a recipient's mobile device.
The reporting and analytics features are detailed and easy to understand. And lastly, Mailchimp is a platform with user-interface features that make you feel like you are having fun while doing your job, and that's almost priceless.

We use it for clients who need to begin using an email marketing platform. It's not used by my company personally as I don't have a need for it at the moment. However, it is one of the first ones I recommend to my clients because of its ease of use for anyone and friendly user interface.
  • Easy drag and drop design
  • Easy to learn
  • More options for designs/templates
  • Option to move the logo somewhere else if using the free version
I think it's better to use for companies that are less established and need a free and easy to use email marketing platform. It's a great starting point for people and small companies who can't afford something else.

We utilize Mailchimp for internal emails along with supporting clients who use Mailchimp as their primary platform for bulk emails. It is typically used by marketing departments but also used by entire organizations. Mailchimp provides sophisticated email capabilities in a manner that is manageable by non technical people. Mailchimp also provides one of the strongest templating engines out there.
  • Templating
  • Managing lists
  • Simple automations
  • Segmentation
Mailchimp is the go-to platform for anyone who wants to get started with an email platform or who needs a strong email platform but does not want to invest in a full-blown marketing automation platform. It provides lots of great tools to get started with email marketing. The templating engine is good, as is the editor. Creating well-designed emails that render correctly is not easy and Mailchimp really helps.

We use Mailchimp for our email marketing efforts. We do not have a newsletter, rather we send out highly segmented email. Our total email list is over 18,000 contacts, but at times we have emails sent to less than 1000.
  • Easy Segmentation
  • Unsubscribe management made easy
  • Integration is not easy with an uncommon CRM system
  • Can be pricey
Mailchimp makes audience segmentation for highly targeted email marketing simple and efficient.

I am able to alert my personal customers with news, new products, sales, announcements, events, etc. I like that I can send it to my “business” list of people I have set up.
  • Adding your own images and text is very easy.
  • It’s free.
  • The templates are sometimes not useful and it can be difficult to maintain good formatting, especially in the app.
  • It is hard to change text size.
Anywhere you’d like to send the same email to multiple people, this is an extremely useful tool. I really appreciate that it is free and mostly easy to use. It also gives you reports of who opens it, who clicks on links, etc. the reports are helpful if you need data.

We use Mailchimp as our main way to reach our customers with monthly specials and product updates. We have a pop up on our home page and offer all first time purchasers a 10% discount on their order for subscribing. We have seen a big increase in subscribers since adding the pop up around 10 months ago and should of done it sooner.
  • Great for segmenting our customer groups.
  • Easy to use templates.
  • At the moment the only thing we can mention is pricing, it has gone up a fair amount in the last year.
We find the design features easy to use, especially with the saved templates. We like the time-warp feature to spit our newsletter send-outs to different states and also the recommended time to send out for optimized open rates. The insights are easy to use even on the mobile app so we can always check our open rates, click-throughs, etc and it's easy to send out a campaign to anyone that did not open the newsletter.

Mailchimp is mainly used as a distribution method for our newsletter. We can keep our subscribers up to date with the newest information, products, and services on a weekly basis. The marketing department uses it for the most part. It helps us to communicate with our customers and subscribers as well as collect new subscribers through forms. It also assists in determining what they are and are not interested in.
  • Automation of triggers based on set rules
  • Analysis of email campaigns
  • Easy to use
  • Drag and drop email template builder
  • Subscription prices can go very high depending on the email count you have
  • More languages should be available to create emails for people outside the US
  • Customer service can be frustrating at some times
It works well if you have compiled a good amount of emails that opted into your newsletter for example. With just one click you can send one email to thousands of people, track the open and click behavior, and set up follow up triggers based on that. You can also set up autoresponders when someone signs up on your website or blog. Mailchimp makes it easy to spread your message.

It will not work for affiliate marketing or spammers as they have strict rules in place and your list has to be clean. If too many emails bounce, they will put your account on hold to investigate.

I not only use this for my 9-5 SEO job, but use it for clients as well. It allows us to send emails to all of our customers very easily. There are also some nice automated features that you can integrate with any platform that you are using for your website. It also easily syncs up with many of my client's website platforms, which makes communication with customers so simple.
  • Email Creation - Very easy to create emails. Drag and drop.
  • Pricing - You can't beat the price. If you are a small business with less than 2,000 customers, it is free!
  • Deliverability - We have never had any issues with emails getting into inboxes.
  • Triggers/Automation - To compete with some of the bigger email platforms, they need more triggers and automation options.
  • Better Support - There is only email and chat support. Phone support would be nice.
  • Better Multistore Support - Better options for companies that are handling multiple websites in one account.
Great for small to medium sized businesses. Large companies would be better suited for more expensive and powerful solutions such as Bronto, Zaius, Klaviyo, Springbot or others on the market. They offer more options, but with that, comes a higher price tag. But if you are a large company, the amount of money you can make should cover it.

I use MailChimp to manage our communications email list and send emails for a general newsletter (monthly), Alumni newsletter (monthly), conference invitations and other timely announcements (such as holiday card...etc.)
  • I think MailChimp has a very easy to use interface. It is cleanly designed and intuitive to navigate the different parts of setting up and sending an email.
  • I think MailChimp provides good pre-built templates for users who do know know how to code HTML/CSS.
  • I think MailChimp has a great integration with Google Analytics.
  • I think MailChimp is a reasonable price for its offerings compared to other email marketing platforms.
  • I wish MailChimp had more robust testing capabilities. I'd love to be able to A/B test internal content, not just subject line, date and send time.
  • I think MailChimp's reporting is basic. You cannot dig that deep into analytics. For example, you cannot sort data by list segment. I also would love to be able to run a report on select emails and date ranges.
  • I think MailChimp's segmentation function could be improved. There seems to be a disconnect between groups and segments. I think you should be able to segment to a group you've created.
While MailChimp is good for basic email, we use Convio for our fundraising email list because MailChimp does not have the capability to integrate with Convio's database so we can link email to donations. We wish we could have one email platform rather than manage two lists. However, we choose MailChimp over Convio for our communications list because of cost. So that is a plus for MailChimp.

MailChimp is a Chump

A year after I wrote the worst review possible of this terrible company, they have the nerve to try to bribe me with $25 to revise my review. Ok - here is my revision: MailChimp is the absolute worst mail system I ever tried and I will never ever ever use it again. I use Vertical Response and encourage everyone to try VR because it's cheaper and better in every way. MailChimp overcharged me, blocked my entire list and caused me to miss an important campaign. Why? No reason - my valid email list was simply blocked by their system and they have no customer service to help. The worst mail system ever and I will never use it again. MailChimp cost my company valuable time and using MailChimp led directly to a loss in revenue. Never, ever again and I hope MailChimp goes out of business - today! Bye!
  • They tried to bribe me for a good review - really bad form Mailchimp - I hate you!
  • They avoid any and all contact with their customers really well
  • They put systems in place to protect themselves and make your life difficult
  • Opt in email requires a phone number. However, MailChimp has no phone support. Fail.
  • They block valid opt in email addresses with no recourse to unblock them other than sending their email to MY recipients to reconfirm something they already did. No - you don't get to contact my customers to reconfirm.
  • Overpriced for what they offer. Total waste of money for what I got, especially since they blocked thousands of valid emails on my opt in list.
If you read good reviews of MailChimp, know that they pay people to write their reviews. I am being paid $25 for this review. I will never use MailChimp again. Their service had a direct negative impact on my business. The fact that they have to pay for reviews proves how bad they really are. Don't use Mailchimp. They are chumps.

MailChimp is currently being used as a secondary email marketing software for my company. We initially used it as the primary email marketing software, but we have moved to a more advanced marketing automation solution. We still maintain MailChimp lists and credits so that we can occasionally send emails from MailChimp.
  • Sending out mass emails

MailChimp is perfect for small businesses that want to get started with email marketing. As your company grows, you will likely need to grow out of it into something that is a better fit. It is great for the one size fits all approach to email sending for businesses. It also has a great email builder and great templates, which makes it ideal for someone that has fewer resources in a smaller company.

MailChimp is used by our B2B business department as well as our PR and design team. We're using it as newsletter tool for all of our contact lists in those areas. Additionally, we're even sending an internal employee newsletter once per month via MailChimp.

Due to the fact that we're communicating to customers in multiple languages, the segmentation features of MC also help us a great deal.
  • Easy and fun to use UI which makes newsletter creation a matter of minutes.
  • Mighty segmentation features which make it possible to have one big list of subscribers which you then simply split via segments (e.g. for language, location, interests, gender, ...)
  • Good user management with different roles to make sure that e.g. a lot of people can create new campaigns but only a few can send them.
  • The categorization of campaigns is a little bit confusing. This often causes small problems because users don't know which campaign is meant for which segment / customer group.
  • Bounce rate is still a little bit high for some clients.
  • Responsive layouts don't always work out perfectly yet (especially on smartphones).
Well suited scenarios:
  • General newsletter tool for sending out a lot of campaigns to a lot of different customer groups.
  • Managing newsletters in multiple languages.
  • Have insights about the ROI of your campaigns after sending (connection to google analytics required).

Less appropriate for:
  • Sending single e-mails or e-mails with a very small recipient count. It also works of course but the effort for creating campaigns would simply be too big for that.

Mailchimp is our mass email system. Anytime we want an email to go to our list from the organization instead of an individual, we use Mailchimp. Mailchimp solves the problems of email management, weeding out incorrect emails, and sending emails to large lists at once. We also really appreciate the reporting features to see how our email is performing, and how we can improve in the future.
  • Reporting
  • Weeding out incorrect emails
  • Identifying users who are most engaged.
  • Easy to customize design
  • I would like to be able to have more audience filter options. For example sending to two tags/segments at once instead of just one.
I think it would probably be good for any organization, but I think Mailchimp is especially well-suited for small organizations that don't have a lot of time to fool around with emails. It is easy to use and the templates are great! Our 5-person team can easily handle the setup and implementation! I can't think of a good example of when it would be less appropriate.

We use Mailchimp with our non-profit and small business clients to create seamless email marketing fundraising campaigns and newsletters. As a design, marketing, and fundraising team we have found Mailchimp to be easily customizable to fit each brand's voice and up-to-date on trends. Also, we utilize their tools such as A/B testing and pre-built templates to make the marketing process easier once clients take-over the work themselves since our model is a sustainable approach for non-profits! We take advantage of the analytics to inform future decisions, however I have been less impressed with how reports are built within the platform. It is hard to compare months or years as that option within the standard version is not available. Hopefully, this is improved in the future because it hasn't changed my overall review of Mailchimp!
  • Up-to-date on tech trends and a leader in the market.
  • A/B and other testing tools to inform campaign decisions.
  • Better analytics - I want a year to year comparison of email open rates.
  • Connection or partnership to stock photography or design assets.
Mailchimp is great for email marketing when you are not an expert in it. However, if you have a large design and marketing team you may want a product that gives you more flexibility and better analytics. Furthermore, their landing page functionality is very basic and I have yet to implement it, but there is no other product I have found that is better for its purpose so I would highly recommend it.

We use Mailchimp for about half of our clients' email marketing campaigns. We collect email addresses on their website, send out monthly newsletters, create basic landing pages, and basic email workflows for lead nurturing.
  • Easy, user-friendly content builder for creating mobile-friendly emails
  • Useful content builder for creating landing pages
  • Forwarding emails from website email capture directly to specific lists
  • I wish there was more customization / features for individual contacts -- so I could watch how they've engaged with email over time.
Mailchimp is perfect for businesses just starting out, as the free features are enough to sustain most basic email marketing -- website capture, newsletters, and very basic landing pages collecting forms.

We started using Mailchimp long ago and began as most up and coming companies, using their free trial service and then expanding upon that as our email list grew. Mailchimp is excellent for collecting new customer emails and then being used to send out newsletters or campaigns to subscribers to be made aware of promotions we are running.
  • Mailchimp's main selling point without a doubt is its simplicity. Making a drag and drop interface that anyone can use is no small feat, and Mailchimp is probably the best when it comes to that.
  • A free plan that is great at helping people new to email campaigns to settle into the process.
  • Active support that can be reached via email.
  • It allows users to reach customers.
  • Pricing is not attractive when moving on past the free Mailchimp, and definitely more expensive than their competitors.
  • Support can only be reached by email. This is a huge problem that we ran into.
  • Support emails/tickets take more than 24 hours to receive a response.
  • Very limited features compared to other email marketing software.
I feel conflicted with Mailchimp. On the one hand, it is a great tool that has actual drag and drop features that I adore, since as a manager I don't have to train anyone to use Mailchimp. On the other hand, Mailchimp is too limited in its features and quite pricey compared to its competitors for what is offered. I would recommend Mailchimp on the basis of a new company starting up or a company with limited amounts of customer emails to go through. However, as a company grows I would recommend more robust software such as Constant Contact, Privy, or Klaviyo.

We use Mailchimp in several capacities. First, we sent bi-weekly blogs and informative articles to our clients and COIs. Secondly, send out a monthly office magazine-type digest recapping our biweekly blogs, along with office announcements and other client-centric topics. It really helps us stay connected with our clients. Last, we send important company updates directly to our contacts. Our firm uses Mailchimp as the resource for sending important information and as a way to connect with our clients. The problem it addresses is to serve as a central marketing tool, complete with contact info and important analytical data regarding open rates.
  • Provides open rates and data analysis.
  • Centralizes contact info for various organizational groups.
  • Easy to use!
  • I actually cannot think of anything. It's very easy to use.
Mailchimp is well-suited to sending informative information to group of receivers, especially when it's important to analyze which clients are opening the emails. It's a great tool for understanding who is interacting with these emails and announcements.
