They have strong organizational skills, understand the software package. It is helpful if they receive Marketo Certified Expert certification after they have used the product for a year. It is important to be detail oriented so that you can have useful campaigns and be able to get metrics showing your ROI while using Marketo.

We have two individuals (myself and a co-worker) who are by no means Marketo professionals, but have taken on the brunt of learning about the software. We attended a few of Marketo's supplied digital training sessions, but most of our learning has come from on-the-job experience as well as perusing the Marketo support community. Marketo does a LOT of things, and it can be really overwhelming at first, but the support is out there to get the help you need.

We don't have any in-house support for Marketo. Generally speaking, we are able to troubleshoot almost anything we have trouble with by consulting the documentation and the user community. If that doesn't get us anywhere, Marketo has a robust support staff that is very prompt and helpful. We've never had trouble getting anything resolved.

It's just me in house, but we also have an agency (Spear Marketing - our implementation partner) which does a lot for us. We use them for support too. When it comes to supporting Marketo, it really helps that I am a certified SFDC administrator. It helps me know how the the two work together and what is possible using the two together.

The most engagement in Marketo lives within the Marketing Ops team. These folks help demand generation leverage templates to create assets but then push all assets and programs live. They also gather reports and report back to the person requesting the built program to show engagement.
