What is Marketo Sales Connect?

Marketo Sales Connect (ToutApp) is a sales email tracking tool that includes tracking, templates, click-to-call, and analytics. It also includes a Calendar to streamline bookings. It is presented as a "swiss-army knife" for sales development reps, account executives, sales ops, sales managers, marketing teams, and customer success teams.

Its template library can be used as a content repository, to upload Powerpoints, case studies, etc. The recommended templates feature allows users to map templates in the library to specific parts of the sales process, based on meta-data about the prospect. There are capabilities for managers to control who can share/create templates based on roles. In addition, Tout integrates with Box, so content in the user's cloud storage files can also be attached to emails.

Marketo acquired ToutApp in 2017.

  • After we decided that we like Sales Engagement/Sales Enablement tool idea in general, but don't like Marketo Sales Connect (ToutApp), we started evaluating the competitors. 2 leaders in the industry very also our final contestants: SalesLoft and Outreach.
  • We went with SalesLoft, because of the friendlier user interface. But Outreach was a winner by features. Both tools are useful; both tools are better than Marketo Sales Connect (ToutApp).

Marketo Sales Connect (ToutApp) was nowhere near as dynamic as the other listed tools that I mentioned. There was not any Sequence or Cadence you could follow. It was missing dynamic fields. A bit cumbersome. The other tools had much prettier interfaces too.

Unlike the other tools I mentioned, Tout is full of surprises in a pretty small bag. Tout remains a user-friendly tool that allows free Email tracking and Email templates. It’s also a Sales engagement platform for data-focused salespeople. I found it is very productive and effective, while still having a large bang for the buck. It also seems to be more intuitive when it comes to a new user starting out on it.

What I've used:
  1. CirrusInsight: logging emails to our CRM, tracking stats and link clicks, and using templates. This tool ended up being a much more productive option for our team, and had more features than Tout offered. Cirrus was also a much faster tool to use instead of slowing down our machines like Tout does.
  2. Salesforce Inbox: see features above. This also has not slowed down our machines.
  3. Gmail: features like canned responses and Snooze email. Gmail doesn't directly offer logging emails to a CRM or tracking open/click stats.

  • Outreach
ToutApp takes second to Outreach. Outreach's seamless integration with SFDC that allows for the recording of all relevant tasks allows me to accomplish more while still recording efforts that tie to my roles KPIs.

  • Outreach
Outreach is the undisputed winner. What ToutApp lacks in the user experience, Outreach makes up for in SPADES. Not only does Outreach automatically integrate with your Salesforce instance, but it is a multi-layered engagement tool that allows reps to take control over the entire nurture process and not just the email component. Outreach has historically been universally adopted by previous teams that I've led, whereas ToutApp seemed to always run into problems.

  • Outreach
Pretty similar from my experience. I would say it falls in between Sendbloom (more basic) and Outreach (more advanced). What I like more about Tout is that it is an add on and I can still work within Salesforce. In order to be REALLY effective in Outreach, I have to live (emails, track events, tasks, etc.) all within Outreach (which sounds nice to have a single software...but never fully works).

  • For the foreseeable future, all are great. It’s not a cop-out. All are different tools, and they are probably going in different directions.
  • Demandforce got me back into Gmail and Chrome. The number of threads Chrome opens and the impact on my Air’s performance is pretty ugly.
  • Tout is great because I can work a list really fast, and send stuff that looks great out with a minimum of hassle.
  • I’ll leave it to the Internets to determine who the original is and who the fast follower is, but for now, I’ll be using both services for as long as they stay on the paths they are on. I doubt they’ll ever integrate, but we can always dream.

Compared to Yesware, toutapp seems pretty much the same in regards to features.
Compared to Playbooks, toutapp is much less expensive (when purchased as an individual license) and currently more feature rich.

We used Cirrus prior to ToutApp and found that Cirrus does an okay job but misses a ton of the functionality that Toutapp provides. Cirrus logs emails into SFDC and is mediocre past that while Toutapp has all of the further functionality I mentioned in the earlier part of my review.

  • Boomerang and aText
I think boomerang is better for scheduling emails. It's easier to use. And it allows emails to be returned to your inbox after a certain amount of time. I think aText is better for things like templates.

I have used HubSpot and it is more robust than ToutApp and provides more integration from sales to marketing. The main downside of using HubSpot to ToutApp is pricing. If you are looking to keep your sales team on track with a very small budget, I would lean over to ToutApp. Also, Toutapp lets you have more email templates, which does save time in the long run for the sales team.
