What is Adobe Marketo Engage?

Adobe Marketo Engage, from Adobe since 2018, aims to help marketing teams drive demand and growth in their companies by delivering exceptional experiences in concert with sales at every stage of the customer journey.

The challenge these teams face is that everyone today expects a personalized experience whenever they interact with a company - they don’t have patience for generic marketing and the last thing they want is a cold call from sales. So to stay competitive, marketing teams are scrambling to understand customers better, so they can give them a better experience, because this is disrupting entire industries. And a big part of what’s needed is figuring out how marketing and sales can do a better job together.

Adobe Marketo Engage aims to redefine Marketing Automation by helping these companies bring together the customer data, content, automation and analytics needed for marketing and sales to coordinate engagement with customers that’s personalized and measurable at every touchpoint - and do it with efficiency and scale.

At Intelza, we developed a voice robot service. One of the directions was a project that automated calls to customers after visiting our client's websites, and these calls were made according to certain conditions. Then I ran into Marketo, which was used by the customer. We made automation using this tool and then began to offer a turnkey solution to our other customers.
  • Flexible analytics system.
  • Access to the necessary objects and events by API.
  • Excellent reports on everything you need.
  • The entry threshold is quite high and you need to spend a lot of time studying the materials.
  • API documentation is sometimes incomprehensible.
First of all, Marketo is not a system for small businesses. Our clients already had experience with it, as well as trained and dedicated employees who constantly worked with Marketo. And if you have the resources to implement and maintain such a system, then it will be quite easy to further increase the automation of interaction with customers on it.

Adobe Marketo Engage is one of our main marketing automation platforms. We use it weekly to send out our monthly drip programs, email blasts, lead generations, etc. The automation and analytics features are wonderful - especially how it seamlessly works without other internal programs. The only flaw is that it's not very user-friendly or easy to learn, but once you get a hang of it, it's great!
  • Marketing automation
  • reporting features/ analytics
  • easy to run marketing campaigns
  • meets our organizations requirements
  • The user interface could use an upgrade
  • Difficult to learn/ not the most user friendly
It just takes the guesswork out of running these campaigns manually once you get it set up. We were running a drip program along with a couple of other campaigns at the same time so it was nice to know that once everything was set up we didn't have to worry about it/ could just access the reporting/ analytics when needed.

I use Adobe Marketo Engage whenever we create email campaigns for our customers. the biggest issue we have seen is connectivity issues with all our marketing stacks and being able to work through our segmentation process. Adobe Marketo Engage is not always the easiest to learn and to know what you are doing so I would suggest that the interface becomes a bit more customer-friendly. I have been working in Adobe Marketo Engage for a few years and I enjoy it, it's a good tool.
  • basic email metrics
  • basic email link performance
  • reliable when we use it
  • be more easy to navigate
  • more reporting
  • customer friendly interface
Adobe Marketo Engage is a powerful tool for email campaigns, AB testing, and creating segmentation. Sometimes it has problems connecting to some other tools within a company's marketing stack so I would recommend working on being able to scale and continuously looking for new ways to connect to a CRM

We use Marketo to create forms, emails, and landing pages. Personally, as a web developer, I spend most of my time on the forms side of things, however, I know our demand-gen team has also had great success with their email campaigns.
  • Tracking
  • Forms
  • Analytics
  • Email marketing
  • Would be nice to have the ability to search for a form using the form ID rather than just the form title
In terms of automation and analytics, Marketo is amazing - my only complaint is that the user interface is not the most intuitive in my opinion. I would like to see them incorporate some more advanced search features to help locate specific forms or LPs within a larger corporate account. If they can improve that, I think it would go a long way to smoothing out the learning curve for new users.

The business problem that we are addressing is speed to lead. People come to Drift all the time and don't fill out forms or attend without webinars or read out content and I have no way to communicate with them because they appear to be ghosts. But with Adobe Marketo Engage, some of those leads of mine get put straight into nurture sequences and only the high intent ones are surfaced to me. Makes me more efficient as a seller. Spending my time on the leads that have the highest propensity to buy.
  • send me emails of lead
  • run reports as to how quickly SDR's respond to leads
  • gives a report as to who was on the website the day before
  • Helps me see what campaigns are working and our marketing squad doubles down on those
  • it hasn't been updated in a while
  • it could be sent via slack as opposed to email (think it may already do this but we don't have it turned on sadly)
  • I with it told me when the person was online in real time
It is well suited for companies that have a well-run marketing department. It is a little bit difficult to use. So you need more than one person to be able to use it properly otherwise it becomes very hard

I used Marketo as an ABM tool to build out email campaigns for specific target audience segments. I then used it to track engagement and used it as a model to decide when a prospect was ready to pass on to sales. In a technical lens, I would create, view, and send the emails from Marketo as well.
  • Audience engagement
  • Asset organization
  • Campaign views
  • Speed to load page
Very appropriate for ABM strategies and email campaigns and detailed campaigns. More of an organizational tool once you have your list ideas built tool, great for implementation of campaigns.

We implemented Adobe Marketo Engage in different clients with different needs. Adobe Marketo Engage is a tool with easy adaptation to the casuistry of the companies, with a friendly environment. It is true that it requires a learning process and it is essential that the company is clear about its objective with the tool. Otherwise, we can find ourselves with a failure of expectations, between what the tool can do and what the company expects.
  • CRM integration.
  • Lead Management.
  • Easy to use interface.
  • Email and landing page personalization is very limited if you don't know Velocity, HTML, and CSS.
  • Possibility to work with files (import/export).
  • Analytics dashboards could be built out more.
For B2B companies Adobe Marketo Engage is a perfect tool, even for small B2C companies. It does not require a large team to implement it. It is true that it takes time to learn many tricks of the tool, but you can build campaigns very quickly. I would not recommend Marketo for large B2C companies, they would find many limitations (especially with databases, segmentation, and personalization).

We currently use Marketo as our Marketing Automation tool, from lead generation to customer experience evaluation. Currently, it's only operated by the Marketing Team, although it's a valuable resource for every team in our company. It helps us with the majority of email communications to all of our clients and also helps us with the administration of leads and forms
  • Integration versatility
  • Easy to use interface
  • Extremely potent automation skills
  • Reporting is a little bit stiff and requires the use of API to extract all valuable information
  • Filtering by dates embedded in custom objects can be troublesome
  • For extremely specific email and landing page customization, the use of templates is not recommended
For any company that requires flexible, integrated, and automated email marketing, Marketo is the perfect solution. However, if there's only a basic requirement of sending emails and not learning/optimizing with them, Marketo may be a little too powerful for your needs

The main reason why we started using this was GDPR in EMEA regions. We wanted to have a platform wherein we can not only send emails but also see the buyer's journey, integrate it with Sitecore and later Salesforce to have systems hand in hand. We create various automated campaigns by creating events, nurture flows, and drip campaigns using this platform now. We also use a scoring parameter for our leads in Salesforce using this platform. Tracking the journey of leads is something that interests inside sales and salespeople which is possible only because of this platform. We can also automate reporting and use tokens to have several emails in diverse languages.
  • It help us sync our campaigns well with lead management software like Salesforce
  • We can have forms created in Marketo and sync them with SItecore landing pages
  • The option of creating nurture flows make us track the buyer's journey and send emails in accordance with the level of person in the buyers journey
  • We can make sure that our data is clean using flows in Marketo as well
  • We can track a lead using Insights in Salesforce synced with Marketo
  • Having an option of checking linked assets with every email or campaign is something I wish we had
  • Automating addition of @ in case of at least the public email ids while uploading the list
  • Giving us an option to make sure that forms have zip codes filled in accordance with country type
Marketo Engage is well suited for emails in a single language for instance. It's very easy to clone and work instead of creating every campaign from scratch is a very handy option. It's a bit tricky to have the tokens managed at the campaign level in case we want emails in multiple languages.

  • Marketing automation via Smart lists
  • Segmentation
  • Dynamic content
  • Triggered emails
  • Batch updates
  • Easily delete assets
  • Easy move assets between programs or workspaces
I think it is best suited for an enterprise looking to elevate their game. It would be less suitable for smaller companies who really just need an ESP.

My company is a small business with around 50 employees and we use Marketo as our marketing automation software. Since we are so small and our marketing team is just 2 people we contract a Marketo firm to help us leverage all of its capabilities, but even then we barely scratch the surface of its utilization. Our plan is to leverage it for ABM marketing and lead management but from my experience, it's so in-depth and not user-friendly we have to rely on this outside agency to assist us, with minimal success. In my opinion, for a business of our size Marketo is too robust and requires a specialist to use successfully. I feel smaller businesses would have an easier time creating successful marketing efforts with other automation platforms geared toward smaller companies.
  • Targeting
  • Customization
  • ABM
  • User Experience
  • Small Business Marketing
  • Educating User Base
Marketo is definitely more well suited for larger enterprise organizations that have a marketing staff with HTML proficiency or a Marketo-specific certification. It's definitely not appropriate for small businesses that have one or two marketing generalists on staff. In my opinion, this piece of software requires extensive knowledge and expertise to operate successfully and have solid marketing efforts.

We utilize Adobe Marketo Engage to send out hundreds of targeted emails to our current customers to cross-sell products. We also send out a monthly newsletter to all customers. The ability to store hundreds of different emails, organize them by campaigns, and utilize different lists of audiences make it easy for us to manage the large workload. The smart rules available when building lists also cuts down on the amount of manual work required to segment the audiences like we do.
  • Organization
  • Smart rules
  • Ease of use
  • Refresh outdated email templates
  • Improve long load times
  • Needs holistic reporting
Very well suited for sending out mass or segmented emails. Easy to set up recurring email sends to new lists or to enroll customers in nurture campaigns. Not well suited for sending out new, cutting edge looking emails. Templates are very outdated and restricted. There is a lack of customization in emails.

Through nature streams we can warm up the leads before they are put in front of the sales team, leveraging lead scores to qualify hot prospects. It also makes it easier to maintain data hygiene through automation of disqualifies and deletions, so the database is always kept clean. It has already out-of-the-box integrations with a lot of tools but it also allows for custom API integrations.
  • Lead Nurture.
  • Lead Scoring.
  • Campaign management.
  • Email marketing.
  • Sometimes slow to run.
  • Support is often very unhelpful.
  • Would like more visibility into the backend.
Adobe Marketo Engage is well suited for bigger companies, with more complex requirements. It would probably be underused for smaller companies or small marketing teams as the default package offered has a lot of modules already. It's also well suited for companies wishing to automate more of their workflows around marketing processes.

We use Adobe Marketo Engage to manage all of our marketing communications across the company. I personally manage the instance for our division which encompasses over four different BUs and hundreds of separate products. We specifically purchased this for its ability to sync readily with Salesforce, provide insights on campaigns, and create segmented marketing automation programs that can continually funnel leads even when not actively managed.
  • Lead Scoring.
  • Cloud Infrastructure.
  • Salesforce Integration.
  • Email Template Builder.
  • Campaign Automation Visualization.
  • Integration with other Adobe Products.
  • Overall UI.
Adobe Marketo Engage is well suited for experienced users and larger corporations to use. It has a lot of tools that can be very effective at launching marketing campaigns and allows users to really "get into the weeds" in tailoring how those are built out. I would not recommend the product to anyone who is not skilled enough to set up the product backend. If you are interested in an intuitive email builder, I would recommend looking elsewhere. The automation is also difficult to visualize without a flow chart and Marketo offers a folding system that is tough to adapt to if you are used to using other similar products.

[Adobe] Marketo [Engage] serves us as a place to collect and store leads, nurture them in a personalized manner, and assign them scores based on their demographic and behavioral characteristics. It is also a place for all email marketing activities and resources. Overall, Marketo is an integral part of our B2B marketing software ecosystem, everything else is built around and on top of it.
  • Super flexible for setting up campaigns or any ad hoc actions with leads
  • Integrates well with other software via web-hooks
  • Detailed logging of user activities on your website
  • Out-of-the box Salesforce integration
  • Allows to build any workflow on top of it
  • UI is very slow, and visually it's a thing from the 90s
  • Customer support is terrible, super slow and not willing to help
  • Pricing grows quickly with 6-9% uplifts year over year
  • Downtimes happen often, though they're usually short
It would work really well if you're looking for a truly customizable solution for B2B, with a focus on email marketing. The best thing is that you can really do anything with Marketo - it depends on how much effort you want to commit. Also, it's really convenient that the data can easily be thrown into Salesforce - so that salespeople can see the activity of leads on the website. This integration is really quick to set up. On the flip side, there's not much for social media integrations and support. You have to work around your own solutions. It's mostly focused on email. The analytics bit is scarce, we preferred to download the activity logs and analyze them on our own side. The SEO part is not strong, it's better to use specialized tools. Also, the learning curve for average marketers may be higher than with other tools.

Marketo being a B2B marketing automation platform helps in lead management, CRM, analytics solutions for our clients. The Account-Based Marketing module helps manage leads on an account level and targets them with consistent communications. With munchkin code deployment on websites, Marketo helps in web analytics to a certain level for web personalization for repeat users, tracking anonymous and known users.
  • Lead Scoring helps in assigning scores based on geo, designation, industry of leads.
  • Account-Based Marketing helps in managing leads on the account level for better targeting.

  • Analytics and reporting helps in revenue model, lead pipeline, email performance.
  • Database integration capabilities for integrating and importing/exporting data into Marketo.
  • Content Management for better management of resources and templates.
  • Ease of integration with CRM apart from Salesforce and MSD CRM.
  • Customization of platform for adding new channels.

Marketo Engage is one of the key tools for email marketing automation in our organization to provide good quality analytics. It is being used for scoring and personalization. It includes to send update/newsletter of company to nurture prospects. Tool has wide range programs to run like email, event, engagement and default. This tool is major for lead generation in organization by email marketing and landing pages creation using design studio. As it says, Marketo is b2b enterprise marketing automation tool and has proved it well for us.
  • Custom and personalized emails and landing pages creation.
  • Good analytics to target and plan effective campaigns.
  • Web Analytics which help to know more about visitor.
  • Lead Scoring and web personalization
  • UI can be more user friendly. It has room of improvement as compare to available competitors in the market. It is hard sometimes to find some features.
  • SEO feature does not work as effective and can have more improvement.
  • Nurture program layout should be more graphical to see the lead passing through the sales funnel and its status. It can be done more effectively as finding leads based data is bit difficult.
Marketo Engage has helped our organization to get a 360 view of our prospects by looking at their activities on our website, landing pages and emails. This tool has been well suited for all types of email campaigns in B2B marketing. It is not much helpful in B2C marketing activities.

My organization uses [Adobe] Marketo Engage as our sole marketing automation system for engaging with our customer base via email, as well as a critical mechanism for operational routing initiatives. Of our organization's entire MarTech platform stack, [Adobe] Marketo Engage is the center around which our other platforms orbit, indicating how critical it is to our organization's initiatives. By leveraging [Adobe] Marketo Engage's sophisticated segmentation, dynamic content, engagement program, and API application support functionalities, we're able to granularly target with first-party and third-party demographic and behavioral data, reaching customers with the right content at the right time in their lifecycle journey -- helping us achieve critical internal KPI goals.
  • Segmentation and targeting
  • Engagement and nurture programs
  • Program templates
  • Dynamic content in emails and landing pages
  • Customization of reporting and analytics
  • Technical documentation
  • More API Launchpoint Partners
[Adobe] Marketo Engage is best suited for organizations operating at the enterprise level or organizations looking to take their marketing campaigns and operations to the enterprise level. Because the platform has a robust feature set, it does require a steep learning curve to maximize [the] use of the platform. [Still], as an experienced user, I'd say that [a] steep learning curve is worth it because the platform acts as a force multiplier for outbound marketing and sales initiatives. For organizations that don't have a broad scope of functional requirements for email campaigns, don't require sophisticated engagement or nurture programs, don't require operational functions to support Sales teams, or don't require a suite of third-party and first-party integrations, [Adobe] Marketo [Engage] might be too advanced for the organization's needs.
