What is Adobe Marketo Engage?

Adobe Marketo Engage, from Adobe since 2018, aims to help marketing teams drive demand and growth in their companies by delivering exceptional experiences in concert with sales at every stage of the customer journey.

The challenge these teams face is that everyone today expects a personalized experience whenever they interact with a company - they don’t have patience for generic marketing and the last thing they want is a cold call from sales. So to stay competitive, marketing teams are scrambling to understand customers better, so they can give them a better experience, because this is disrupting entire industries. And a big part of what’s needed is figuring out how marketing and sales can do a better job together.

Adobe Marketo Engage aims to redefine Marketing Automation by helping these companies bring together the customer data, content, automation and analytics needed for marketing and sales to coordinate engagement with customers that’s personalized and measurable at every touchpoint - and do it with efficiency and scale.

Currently, we are at a stage where we are just like standing up Marketo. so we bought it about one and a half years ago. We just launched event programs in Marketo. But basically starting this April, we are moving to a dedicated IP in Marketo, and that's what will help us launch. We are migrating all our email products from FMC to Marketo this year. So that's the main objective.
  • One aspect I like is Marketo Sales Insights. That's my favorite feature because I like it when you can visualize things and make it easier for non-marketer people. It just is very intuitive and straightforward for the end users who are the salespeople to use.
  • Lead lifecycle management in Marketo is a very grand project, which we are at this stage in my current company. We are far off from deploying by about a few months, but that's my second favorite thing.
  • I think the only complaint is about the UI/UX aspect of Marketo. We are training non-technical and non-marketer users to use Marketo, and typically you would have a marketing operations team who's running those campaigns, but we have the email marketers themselves running them. So we have had a couple of complaints that it's not intuitive to navigate within the platform. That's something I would like to see a major improvement on is just to modernize the platform a little bit.
It would be some of those features like lead lifecycle management. But overall I would also say the seamless integration with third-party platforms and especially CRM, whichever CRM it might be, just helps us keep the data maintained on both ends, keep that same data maintained especially the bidirectional sync, which happens every five to 10 minutes. I like that. Like it's just keeping everything intact.

I use it to connect different software platforms like our webinar platform. I use it to gain leads from places like LinkedIn, Facebook building emails, building content, landing pages, forms, and just operational programs that are stamping leads with what we need to keep track of and engagement.
  • The UI in Marketo is very good. I think that the landing page builders and form builders are very easy to use. I think it gives you complete autonomy to really do whatever you want instead of a typical marketing automation platform that's drag-and-drop and limited. Marketo is very unlimited in what you can do, which is my favorite part about it.
  • I'm not too sure. I don't have too much trouble using Marketo or have any negative feedback for it.
I think that for a company as large as ours, Marketo's well suited. One thing that's really good is the community of Marketo, it's super helpful. Everyone gives all of their feedback and you can go and search for any kind of questions you have about Marketo. I've used it for 5 years and still, I feel like there are so many things to learn about it. And it's really suited for people who are doing all of the different things that I mentioned earlier. It's very well equipped and it's better than any marketing automation platform I've used before.

We primarily use Adobe Marketo Engage to nurture leads for demand generation to increase our revenue, to maintain customer communication and interaction with our customers. Let them know about product releases and courses we have coming up.
  • It particularly integrates with salesforce.com very well. I do enjoy that.
  • You can find the history. It's easy to find activity history on an individual person.
  • The filters are phenomenal and just the wealth of data.
  • Lead Scoring
  • Lead Nurturing
  • Passing of info to Sales
  • So that would be Marketo integration with Dynamics. So with Salesforce it's a 10 out of 10, and with Dynamics it's about a 4 out of 10. So there are several things that the dynamics version cannot do that the Salesforce version can do.
  • The Native Sync with Dynamics...headache
It is well suited for filtering out your customers from a CRM database, which can contain several hundred thousand people. It has the ability to filter down to an exact single person. You can filter or segment by a group of people. Customize communication to those people. Make one-on-one emails with tokens, the ability to tokenize and basically gives the non-technical design people the ability to make decent-looking emails without having in-depth knowledge of other Adobe products that designers would have.

We use them as our ESP and marketing automation platform. Our primary use case is to send all of our marketing emails to all of our readers. Recruitment emails for events. Pretty much all emailing to our audiences runs through Marketo as well as the journey building, which is something that we were looking for when we migrated to them from our old ESP. So looking for more of that nurture-building campaigns and pushing people through these more automated journeys.
  • I think Marketo does a lot of things particularly well as it pertains to email and having the ability to really get very detailed and particular for very different use cases. It kind of has the ability to do everything. You have to learn how to do it yourself, but it does enable you to really do any sort of email marketing campaigns in any fashion, in any sort of journey that you need. So it's very customizable.
  • I think training and ease of use. There's a very large learning curve. I think getting some of our marketers up and running on Marketo takes typically a very long process just to get them fully trained on even just sending emails. It's one of the more difficult ESPs I've ever used. It functions great and it has a lot of features available, but just learning all of those features takes a lot of time. I'm a power user and I've been on the product for six years now and there's still a lot about the product that I don't know and that I'm still learning. So I think you just have to have a very technical mindset to be able to use the product when a lot of people are more marketers and just not used to doing some more customizable really tech oriented roles.
I'd say it's less appropriate for people that are just sending straight emails and just doing something that a more simpler solution could accommodate. But it's definitely more suited for a company like mine that has a lot of different business units that have a lot of different use cases so different ways of sending emails, different types of emails. We also have a lot of data that we collect on all of our audiences, so being able to house all of that data and being able to have a bunch of business units that're doing very different things is something that Marketo really accommodates.

Being a marketing automation tool, the first use case is definitely email marketing and email nurturing. The second I would say is you know, I really engage our customers. We have nurturing programs and all of that that we use engagement programs for, keep nurturing our current and existing customers or we feel who can convert in future. So keep nurturing prospects and everybody, so lead nurturing, lead generation, and lead management.
  • Definitely engagement. I would say lead engagement not so much onto lead management or database management because there are quite a few things that we have challenges with. But with lead engagement and lead generation, it's an awesome tool.
  • Definitely database management. When it comes to database management, not just me being a digital marketing specialist. I've been having challenges dealing with duplicates, merging duplicates, managing duplicates, and a lot of people coming in, personal emails, business emails, all of that. So database management would be the biggest challenge I think that everybody's facing in Marketo or in general. I think in our marketing automation tool as well.
It's definitely suited for a large-scale company with a lot of databases, but then in the past, I've seen smaller companies trying to use it, but they cannot. I would say, having a good Marketo, not an expert, but at least a functioning person, somebody who has Marketo experience definitely makes sense to have it with a company who has a Marketo expert in-house. That makes a really big difference. But then if you really go for consultancy and all of that, then you do not have the complete views of Marketo.

We use Marketo to manage our entire database. We also use Marketo to host all of our forms and manage all of our email campaigns. It has significantly helped our company become more streamlined when it comes to all of our marketing campaigns. We have automated most of our processes with Marketo.
  • Automation is very powerful.
  • If you can imagine it, you can do it in Marketo.
  • Database is very intuitive and easy to set up.
  • Visual flowcharts would be a nice addition.
  • A more colorful UI.
  • Better customer support.
Marketo excels when you have a team of at least 3-4 employees to run it. It takes a lot of work to set it up and make sure everything is running smoothly. Marketo is a must if you are trying to set up complicated nurture drips. You can pretty much set up anything you can imagine.

Marketo is used for all outbound email follow-ups and is regularly integrated with our system to replace in-product emails fully. The flexibility of Marketo's templates and how easily they can dynamically insert information from our API makes using the platform super easy. The other major advantage of Marketo is the amount of flexibility in the their reporting and automation rules which allow us to meet all use cases
  • Marketing automation
  • Lead scoring
  • Bulk Email
  • Integrations
  • Reporting
  • Erase of use
  • UI
  • Connection with the rest of the Adobe quite of platforms
Any situation where marketing automation or highly advanced email capabilities are needed is a perfect fit for Marketo's tools. They are likely the best Enterprise MA platform available today. Marketo is easy to integrate with other systems such as our Salesforce CRM and ERP platform and the reporting and lead scoring capabilities are very robust.

We have been using Adobe Marketo Engage to manage our organization leads and engage them to convert them to contacts. We have been supporting various Adobe Marketo Engage users for usage and setting up their instances with best practices. We have been working as consultants for various firms and agencies. We are integrating Adobe Marketo Engage with various third-party tools and CRMs. Reporting and Analytics data have been easy to track and analyze. Scoring, re-engaging leads, setting up segmentation, and normalization campaigns.
  • Reporting
  • Email programs
  • Nurturing
  • Flexibility of email and landing page template creations
  • Event management
  • Scoring and Lifecycle
  • Please make the UI more user friendly
  • Landing pages should have a 'Used By' and 'created by' details
  • Tokens should have a 'used by' method to track back
  • Spam leads and reasons need to be more detailed
  • Spam trap in emails should be a default functionality
  • Email scanners clicking email links should not be part of email performance or link performance reports
Scoring and lead engagement have been the best scenarios to use Adobe Marketo Engage. Database management, event management, dynamic templates are more likely. Landing page and email template flexibility and gives out good reports. Attribution is something that is less appropriate to be used independently. Named Accounts has lots of scope of improvement.

Marketo is used to organize marketing campaigns and program data like webcasts, gated content onsite and content syndication programs. We also use Marketo to send marketing emails and segment our audiences.

I personally use Adobe Marketo Engage to create customer engagement material to reach end users. <br><br>The business problem this product addresses is the need to create engaging marking material and to centralize it all on one platform where it can then be scheduled and sent to our end users directly. Having a product that can reach a vast number of end-users (100,000+) is essential to our business, and keeping end-users engaged with the company.
  • Scheduling sends on time
  • Vast storage for image files
  • Very intuitive platform for ease of use
  • There tends to be random errors when engaging with the platform, requiring constant refreshing of the browser.
  • The platform can slow down significantly at certain times, where you would need to wait for the program to finish loading before the next action can be completed.
  • When left idle for some time, there is no pop-up letting you know you need to log in until after certain actions are completed. Thus you could be building something, take a break, come back, add additional items, only to have to refresh and possibly lose any work that was added after being idle.
Adobe Marketo Engage is best suited for users who wish to build marketing material with assets they already have on hand. This is a platform for someone to build marketing material by compiling their assets into finished product to send to their end users, with the goal of improving overall company engagement

We utilize Adobe Marketo Engage as our full marketing automation platform, we utilize it in the following activities: <br><br><ul><li>Direct emails</li><li>Live event registration page and promotion</li><li>Webinar registration and promotion</li><li>Smart list creation</li><li>Syncing marketing qualified leads to Salesforce </li></ul>And more that I am not involved in.
  • Providing highly customizable workflows for leads
  • Easy to use email A/B testing
  • Customizable tokens to use in one or many campaigns
  • User interface could be updated
  • Email and landing page customizability
  • Identifying commonly used fields to build smart lists
I have found Marketo Engage is best for one to many communications to large lists. If you do not have established marketing practices and a large list size, it may not be the right fit for you. If you do have a large list size and ample marketing team, it is an excellent way to reach those folks in an impactful (and measurable) way.

  • More options and more user friendly in the email and landing page builder

We are using Adobe Marketo Engage to automate every single piece of the marketing journey, and make it a single source of truth for us. This is one of our centralized platforms for both the Sales and Marketing teams, where their small tools are integrated with webhooks, APIs, or natively.

  • CRM integration
  • Managing lead lifecycle management
  • Lead scoring and ranking
  • Customer email marketing

  • Social media reporting
This product is well suited for Enterprises [that] deal heavily in email marketing, lead management, and ranking. You can build a well-suited nurture campaign and emphasis more on custom rules as compared to other MAP. On the other hand, don't expect a great social media integration and its analytics.

We mainly used Marketo Engage for lead management use cases and different business units' newsletters management. All of our clients were not tracking any number so far, and after implementing the solution in their businesses, clients started to make business decisions based on those numbers.<br>The next steps would be to implement lead scoring for those clients, and start to personalize experiences from this data.
  • Email editing
  • Personalization
  • Lead management
  • Public web version of the emails as default (just like Mailchimp)
  • Integration with other CRMs
The solution plays well with CRM integration, since you'll be using this data to personalize and enrich client's experience. Wether you're sending emails, publishing landing pages, doing lead scoring or even track some behaviors in an external page, Marketo has it all!
One think worth noting is that, for some use cases, you're going to need basic web development skills (HTML, CSS, JavaScript).

We use Adobe Marketo Engage daily. We use it for email delivery (client newsletters, product updates). We also use triggered campaigns that send specific emails, texts, etc. based on the behaviors of prospects. We provide the right information at the right time to prospects based on their behaviors using engagement programs for nurturing.

Marketo has a large platform eco-system and integrates well with many different applications. We currently integrate Marketo with Salesforce, Slack, On24, Splash, and others.

We use Marketo to move people through the buyer's journey with scoring and/or hand raising and move people into different revenue stages. This allows us to qualify prospects before passing them to sales.

We connect our routing/assignment with Salesforce which allows us to provide a seamless hand off to our sales team.
  • Scoring - Marketo has a system that is flexible. It allows you to create a very customized scoring model.
  • Buyers Journey - Marketo has many features that allow for you to create a customized buyers journey. Scoring, revenue stages, ability to 'stamp' data in various fields (for tracking) allows you to create a very specific buyers journey for your buyer.
  • Integration with CRM - Marketo integrates really well with so many different applications. It's native sync with Salesforce makes it an even more powerful tool
  • Because of its complexity and ability to be customized, Marketo has a longer learning curve and requires a dedicated admin.
Marketo is best in class. Many Marketing Automation Platforms (MAPs) focus on ease of use. That's great, except it usually means you give up the ability to truly customize the program to fit your specific needs.
If you need to customize your buyer's journey, create specific scoring, be able to trigger off of almost anything that you create, and be able to seamlessly integrate with your CRM, Marketo is the best tool.

We useAdobe Marketo Engage for our email service provider. Adobe Marketo Engage provides the platform needed to handle large volumes of email traffic. This ensures smooth and efficient email communication to our customers. Adobe Marketo Engage maintains good relationships with major mailbox providers, following best practices and adhering to email protocols to ensure that our emails are reach recipients' inboxes. It offers tools for creating and managing email marketing campaigns, including designing and personalizing email templates, managing mailing lists, tracking email performance metrics, and automating the process of sending emails.
  • Seemingly limitless possibilities for campaign automation
  • High deliverability
  • High security and spam protection
  • Not user friendly at all- extensive training required
  • All reports need to be set up and customized (native reports difficult to navigate)
  • Needs to be set up by someone extremely knowledgable with the platform
This is well-suited for a very large company with multiple brands or campaign needs. It's extremely robust and wouldn't really be necessary for a small to medium sized company.

It has really sophisticated email features, suitable for businesses with complex and targeted email campaigns.

It has integrations with other platforms if you require CRM or analytics platforms.

We use Adobe Marketo Engage for all our commercial email communications. This means we send our weekly mass newsletters, and our automated flows via the tool. We have all our users in the database, including a lot of information which we can use for segmentation and personalization. We use this data on a daily basis. We have multiple automated flows running and send multiple big newsletters every week.
  • Data segmentation and creating smart lists
  • Landing pages including forms
  • Triggered and batch campaigns
  • Integration with external platforms

I specifically use this tool for the Abode Marketo sales insights part of things. The broader marketing team uses much more of the overall functionality in the tool. We are able to provide easy to access email templates for our sellers to use and see analytics on within this tool. We also leverage the integration within Salesforce so they can see the history of the user that Adobe Marketo Engage tracks from our broader efforts.
  • Integrates with Salesforce
  • List Segmentation
  • The MSI email templates have trouble staying synced with gmail
  • The UI is terrible, could be much easier to navigate, in my opinion

We are a telecommunications company with a lot of SKUs and a range of products. We use Marketo in cross-selling and up-selling solutions and managed services to our existing clients. Apart from this, we have a dedicated Marketing team that does the inbound marketing using various channels (paid and organic), we're able to do and track omni-channel marketing using Marketo to get more business from our existing customers and add new logos (customers) as well.
  • Lead management
  • Omni channel marketing
  • Email marketing
  • Attribution
  • The user experience could be made more intuitive. The current experience is easy to navigate only for professionals who already know Marketo and have significant experience working with it. I see new users complaining a lot about the UX not being intuitive.
  • Marketing report subscription: Marketo does not have the capability to schedule the daily sending of reports to marketers/stakeholders. It sends the report at around midnight Pacific time each day to all the subscribers.
  • Ability to visualize the smart campaign flows.
I would recommend Marketo Engage to all the people out there who're looking for an enterprise-grade marketing automation platform for not only just email marketing but creating buyer journeys, integrating with sales platforms, and doing event marketing. Marketo is a great package as it supports all the channels, and it is highly customizable as per the needs of the business. Although it is primarily built in keeping B2B companies' marketing needs in mind, but it supports B2C use cases as well.

We use Marketo Engage for lead generation through email campaigns, content syndication programs, tracking website visitors, lead scoring to provide sales with the warmest leads as well as the core foundation for our metric reporting on MQE's, MQL's and SALs. In our industry we have to break through the noise and Marketo has such great segmentation and dynamic capability which helps us to be targeted and personalized in our approach to prospects. We use Marketo to nurture our leads all the way from being anonymous users to sales ready prospects. Marketo Engage is I'd say the most advanced marketing automation tool out there and addresses any business problems which we may incur.
  • Marketo has indepth reporting capability which helps you truly track your ROI for campaigns across all channels, email, social, events, tradeshows etc
  • Once you have set up your segmentations and use dynamic content, you are able to be extremely targeted and personalized in your approach to engaging prospects. Increases opens, conversions and engagement all round
  • I think there could be improvement in the ease of being able to report on the customer journey through their lifecycle stages. How long it takes for an anonymous user to go through each lifecycle stage until becoming a potential opportunity. It seems complicated to set up and could be more visually appealing.
Marketo is well suited to any medium to large size organization, it is a best-of-breed automation software and it can be quite complex without having the relevant training.

Adobe Marketo Engage allows us, as an enterprise, to manage over fifty different brands, mainly for the usage of email marketing and marketing automation. The features that Marketo has are vital to the success of our daily, weekly, and monthly sends. Year over year we are responsible for over sixty million emails, and Marketo makes it a breeze.
  • Partition Features
  • Use of UTMs
  • Pre-built email templates
  • General user design
  • More design options are non HTML users
While Adobe Marketo Engage is great for email marketing, data analytics and overall marketing automation, I believe there could be a better source of CRM without having to purchase excessive Adobe packages.

I personally use it to create targeted email nurture campaigns for our customer base. We build email journeys that span over multiple months with educational content on specific areas of our product. The problem we faced was that we had features in our application that would be very beneficial to specific subsets of customers, however, we realized that many of our customers did not even know that these features existed. The way we're solving that problem is by sending up to 8 different personalized emails based on industry, spend etc. over the course of a few months to support our other larger campaigns. Now, when account managers hop on a call, they are confident that the customer is aware of the feature they are trying to sell.
  • Personalization
  • Integration with Salesforce
  • Flexible Email Creation
  • Detailed Email Nurtures with Various Triggers and Conditions
  • It's a bit slow to use at times
  • The UI could use a bit of a refresh
It's well suited for building intricate, automated and personalized campaigns. It's sometimes a bit slow to get a quick and simple email out the door.

At Zoho corporation we use Adobe Marketo for driving our prospecting efforts (cross sell and up-sell existing customers, and add net new logos). We setup separate marketing campaigns for based on the geography, product interest, and industry. With Marketo being highly customizable marketing automation platform, it allows us setting different buyer journeys, scoring, and personalized marketing campaigns based on the prospect segment all through a single platform. We also use workspaces and partition feature in Marketo to divide our marketing campaigns and audience respectively.
  • Customized lead scoring
  • Scalable buyer journeys
  • Engagement programs (lead nurturing)
  • Newsletter style one off email campaigns
  • Personalization
  • Email Scripting
  • User Experience can be improved a bit. When I click anywhere before the smart list gets saved, the screen freezes and we have to manually refresh the window to fix that. That is sometimes so annoying.
  • Icons should be updated. A glossary of icons should be provided within the platform as well
  • The product misses on the ability to add custom object records via smart campaign flow
  • Usage of tokens should be enabled in the smart list
  • Target Account Management should be updated with better reporting capabilities as they charge extra for that module above and beyond the base subscription
I would recommend Marketo Engage to anyone looking for a marketing automation platform that is highly customizable, scalable, and reliable. The product has a bit of a steep learning curve, but once people get to know your way around the product and different features, I’m sure they will appreciate the depth and capabilities of the Marketo. Marketo is very well suited for email marketing, comprehensive lead management, tracking, customizing marketing setup, and integrating with the CRM for closed loop marketing and sales reporting.
