What is Adobe Marketo Engage?

Adobe Marketo Engage, from Adobe since 2018, aims to help marketing teams drive demand and growth in their companies by delivering exceptional experiences in concert with sales at every stage of the customer journey.

The challenge these teams face is that everyone today expects a personalized experience whenever they interact with a company - they don’t have patience for generic marketing and the last thing they want is a cold call from sales. So to stay competitive, marketing teams are scrambling to understand customers better, so they can give them a better experience, because this is disrupting entire industries. And a big part of what’s needed is figuring out how marketing and sales can do a better job together.

Adobe Marketo Engage aims to redefine Marketing Automation by helping these companies bring together the customer data, content, automation and analytics needed for marketing and sales to coordinate engagement with customers that’s personalized and measurable at every touchpoint - and do it with efficiency and scale.

I tried working on Hubspot and Pardot as per requirement. But faced many issues and difficulties in operating both. The interface is not too user-friendly and very difficult to find options. Creating a Landing Page and form is very complicated as compared to Marketo. Reporting is a piece of cake in Marketo but in Hubspot and Pardot it is not efficient.

Marketo has been better than the above-mentioned tools in various categories. Reports have been easier to be pulled out and understandable - Scoring is customizable and has proved very beneficial. Flexibility in trigger and batch campaigns and its run usage - Lead management is easier in Marketo and more standardized.

Marketo Engage is much more customizable than any other ESP I've used previously. It also allows you to easily create email journeys if you have multiple segments and audiences, more than any other tool. It's great for B2B, especially promotional messaging--maybe not for eCommerce transactional emails, but with integration, it may be possible.

  • HubSpot
Hubspot seems to have an easy plug and play experience. The level of flexibility and customization that Marketo Engage provides for building and executing our digital marketing campaigns can't be matched.

Our IT team selected Adobe Marketo Engage so that we would be using Adobe across our tech stack. Pardot and Mailchimp both have more out-of-the-box functionality, and you can do more with less personnel time. Adobe Marketo Engage nearly takes a full-time employee to manage, report, maintain lists, create programs, etc.

Adobe Marketo Engage was the winner of our RFP process because of their willingness to develop an API to integrate with our very customized CRM and their robust functionality. In terms of functionality, we would have been able to do most of what we wanted with some of the other platforms we looked at but knowing what we were up against in terms of CRM integration made Adobe Marketo Engage the choice in the end.

HubSpot and Pardot are great solutions for very small teams or a larger organization with a small marketing team. For a growing team that leverages Salesforce, Adobe Marketo Engage is by far the best.

I have used Pardot and Eloqua in the past, and Adobe Marketo Engage is light years ahead of each of them. Pardot has some cool features, but they are just not there yet. For example, with Automation Rules, in the past, it was 50 out of the box, whereas within Adobe Marketo Engage, there really are no limits. Eloqua is powerful and can move data fast, but other than the canvas, it is very clunky.

If it is B2B, it is much more powerful in terms of scoring and scalability. I've been using Adobe Marketo Engage for years, and it has fewer limitations than other Marketing Automation Platforms.

After analyzing Adobe Marketo Engage's competitors, we found Adobe Marketo Engage provides better customer support and training from others. Training and support were two key factors for which my team and I went ahead with Adobe Marketo Engage.

Adobe Marketo Engage is good for medium, large B2B companies looking for a custom-built solution to align prospect engagement with business goals, etc. Whereas for a growing business looking to bring more visitors to their website and nurture leads with a marketing automation software of enterprise capabilities, they might be better served by HubSpot.

Adobe Marketo Engage integrates with other platforms much more efficiently. Being able to put contacts into a list and then have all the selected contacts go directly into a campaign in salesforce is a game-changer for me. We could never do that with Hubspot. Having Zoominfo synced with Adobe Marketo Engage is also a huge time saver. It is always accurate. The form fill and landing pages are much easier to set up than in Hubspot.

I usually go with Hubspot, but Adobe Marketo Engage can work as well. Just once again, for me, the fact that the interface is not much intuitive if you don't read the documentation and all the bugs that are happening (slowing down my work) are a big issue.

Adobe Marketo Engage provides a robust user experience that allows organizations to focus on deploying more marketing activities and tracking results. While HubSpot is more CRM-focused, Adobe Marketo Engage can help organizations manage large groups for key product launches, events, and more. All while allowing multiple teams to collaborate and expedite their campaigns.

Marketo vs Eloqua

Score 5 out of 10
Vetted Review

Pardot is the closest equivalent to Adobe Marketo Engage. However, Eloqua is the industry benchmark. Eloqua does not allow duplicate email address records; Adobe Marketo Engage does - that's fundamentally the biggest difference, the rest is to do with capabilities of integration, operators allowed for data manipulation operations, working with custom objects, the concept of forms as objects, and the ability to process in parallel and at volumes in orders of magnitude more than Adobe Marketo Engage. The iPhone vs. Android analogy is not correct for Eloqua vs. Marketo. This [is] more equivalent of a Mercedes vs. a tuk-tuk. Adobe Marketo Engage's overly aggressive sales team will pitch ideas to C-level people and try to convince them that Adobe Marketo Engage can do what Eloqua can do, but in reality, this is simply not true. The few areas that Adobe Marketo Engage is better vs. Eloqua cannot possibly make up for the deficiencies in all other areas and is simply not capable anywhere near to the degree that Eloqua is. Marketo isn't better because it's simpler - it's simpler because there's less that it can do and therefore [fewer] buttons and controls and therefore (much) less ability. High-level and basic users will not understand the differences. It's only when you try to do something meaningful and/or complex - that's when you realize the chasm that exists in the capability difference of Eloqua vs. Marketo.
