What is Adobe Marketo Engage?

Adobe Marketo Engage, from Adobe since 2018, aims to help marketing teams drive demand and growth in their companies by delivering exceptional experiences in concert with sales at every stage of the customer journey.

The challenge these teams face is that everyone today expects a personalized experience whenever they interact with a company - they don’t have patience for generic marketing and the last thing they want is a cold call from sales. So to stay competitive, marketing teams are scrambling to understand customers better, so they can give them a better experience, because this is disrupting entire industries. And a big part of what’s needed is figuring out how marketing and sales can do a better job together.

Adobe Marketo Engage aims to redefine Marketing Automation by helping these companies bring together the customer data, content, automation and analytics needed for marketing and sales to coordinate engagement with customers that’s personalized and measurable at every touchpoint - and do it with efficiency and scale.

Companies can't remove reviews or game the system. Here's why

It's very scalable, but I find the launch point integrations lacking compared to HubSpot. Overall, I'd say that it's a more powerful system than HubSpot in a lot of ways, but it lacks the simple, reliable features in HubSpot that make it so user-friendly. Very much a PC vs. Mac duality.

I was actually the buyer and super admin for Pardot at my last company, so I will always have a soft spot for the platform. But, Adobe Marketo Engage delivers far better when it comes to importing smart lists to ad platforms and easily routing social ad lead form leads into our instances. I will say - Pardot has a way better UI and is much easier to find everything.

I found Adobe Marketo Engage more suitable for our business compared to Pardot. Adobe Marketo Engage has more features and functions than Pardot. I found Adobe Marketo Engage reporting and analytics more advanced than Pardot.

The best reason why Marketo is a leader in the market is due to its ability to do strategic engagement at scale. For multi-channel campaigns and advanced nurturing techniques, Marketo is the best MAP. Also, features like predictive web content, ad targeting, and ABM make this platform feature-rich without looking for any other alternatives.

Because we can connect our Salesforce to Adobe Marketo Engage, we are able to create a lot of campaigns, and [that] helps us maintain, build, enhance, and acquire data for our campaigns. Also, the reports and dashboard features help us in a lot of ways especially building reports for us to know what we can present and to know the right solutions for us to achieve our goals.

My experience with other marketing automation platforms is they work great, but only if your organization fits in with what they expect you to be. If you don't operate in that way, you have to get really clever to find workarounds. With Adobe Marketo Engage, it takes longer to set up, but you can set it up to work exactly how your organization works.

It allows you to focus on the accounts that are most important to your business and engage with them in a personalized way. Adding to a greater interaction through all possible channels, including email, Internet, advertisements, events, social and mobile; use the behaviors and interactions of our contacts to deliver highly personalized messages at the right time. Finally, we can take advantage of complementary solutions offered by ISVs and other Marketo LaunchPoint® partners with solutions such as predictive scoring and account enrichment, to expand Marketo ABM's capabilities.

I wasn't involved in the selection of the marketing automation platform in my organization. But I think the main difference between HubSpot and Adobe Marketo Engage is that HubSpot is easier and faster to implement, use and maintain, thus more suitable for small businesses. If you are looking for more customization options to cater to your business' and customers' needs and you have a large marketing team, I think Adobe Marketo Engage would be a more suitable option.

Marketo, in my opinion, is better than the others when working for a B2B or tech company. I felt like it gave us more control over how we distributed messaging to our customers and prospects that helped them easily understand complex tech and software products. Alternatives like Act-On and Constant Contact seem to be better for smaller companies or companies who don't invest as much into content creation and distribution -- focusing mostly on sending emails and newsletters.

Even though Pardot is a Salesforce product, Adobe Marketo Engage feels far more robust even with its integration. Real-time analytics, reporting, templating, cloning - it all just feels so much more natural in Adobe Marketo Engage.

Adobe Marketo Engage stacks up really well against competitors in the campaign design toolkit - including emails, landing pages, workflows - as it's very user-friendly. Another plus is that it has excellent integration with Salesforce, whereas some other systems like Hubspot are better with their own Hubspot CRM tool. Adobe Marketo Engage has tons of customization and personalization features that rank much better than other tools in this area.

Marketo is miles ahead of Pardot. There is much more you can do right down to the small things like making sure people get emails in their local time zone. It's easier to segment prospects as well. With Pardot being just as much of a challenge to implement and learn as well as have a similar price point, it wouldn't make sense to invest in Pardot.

What makes Marketo stand out is its ability to create dynamic lists while providing real-time insights to marketers. With its in-depth tagging and filtering functions, Marketo is the marketing automation tool where I found reliability and precision in the sensitive data we work with, such as leads data and MQL scores.

The possibility of running complex marketing campaigns and seamless integration options along with the email editor & detailed analytics was the reason why we went ahead with Marketo over all the other vendors. We were using one of the vendors in the list above but as our marketing matured, it was essential to set the foundation using Marketo in a strong way.

Functionality on Pardot was limited. And development of the product was at a standstill with people slowly transferring over to Marketo. Marketo's functionality is above and beyond and transitioning to it was a no-brainer despite the investment.

I used pardot and hubspot for email/marketing automation and although i'd argue that hubspot is a lot easier to teach, neither of them are as flexible as Marketo. For companies that have very specific needs for complex triggers and want to integrate a bunch of tools into thir marketing automation, Marketo is THE solution.

To be fair I've used Marketo a lot longer than Pardot, but my initial thoughts are, I like Marketo a lot better. The backend was easier for me to get up to speed quickly. Pardot also didn't have a content library to my knowledge, and I found it hard to find specific campaign items for review after the initial setup.

Marketo is quite quick and easy to implement and you can send your first campaign really quickly. If your data is visible and synced from your CRM then it's simple to create a Smart Campaign to segment your audience and send emails, update data values, etc.
Salesforce Marketing Cloud on the other hand is a whole other kettle of fish. It's a BEAST of a platform and it's given to you as essentially a blank canvas with no clear "best practice" way to use it. The UI isn't user-friendly, the system is clunky and slow, and it could take days or weeks before you could send your first automated email journey. SFMC also relies on SQL to segment audiences, unlike Marketo's drag and drop segment builder. SQL is understandably more powerful and since SFMC uses Data Extensions for list management, this opens up a whole range of personalisation possibilities for you to leverage. Hence why SFMC is much better suited for B2C scenarios than Marketo is. SFDC also incorporates the power of AMPscript, which again, allows you to hyper-personalise every email you send. Whereas, you are limited to use Marketo Segmentations for Dynamic content which are more difficult to manage and a little less reliable.
If you are a growing B2B company with limited products and services and are looking for a platform that any Marketer can use, without the need of a Developer or specialised Agency, then Marketo is the way to go.

HubSpot, SharpSpring and ActiveCampaign are much better and a lot cheaper than Marketo all have [a] better user interface, UX, WYSIWYG editors. Their lead flow management [is] more intuitive. You will be able to pick them up and run with them in no time. Reporting and assigning tasks is so much better, they all also have an integrated CRM.
