What is Adobe Marketo Engage?

Adobe Marketo Engage, from Adobe since 2018, aims to help marketing teams drive demand and growth in their companies by delivering exceptional experiences in concert with sales at every stage of the customer journey.

The challenge these teams face is that everyone today expects a personalized experience whenever they interact with a company - they don’t have patience for generic marketing and the last thing they want is a cold call from sales. So to stay competitive, marketing teams are scrambling to understand customers better, so they can give them a better experience, because this is disrupting entire industries. And a big part of what’s needed is figuring out how marketing and sales can do a better job together.

Adobe Marketo Engage aims to redefine Marketing Automation by helping these companies bring together the customer data, content, automation and analytics needed for marketing and sales to coordinate engagement with customers that’s personalized and measurable at every touchpoint - and do it with efficiency and scale.

I used Eloqua in 2012. The campaign canvas in Eloqua 10 was better than Marketo, but Marketo's integration with Salesforce.com was hands down much better. I've evaluated Hub Spot. Hub Spot seems to have strong social, SEO and content marketing tools; however, the integration with Salesforce does not seem to be as strong.

We needed an enterprise solution to allow an entire marketing department to get going and also have a cohesive approach to the marketing strategy and the data behind it. HubSpot did not have the lock down options we needed and Eloqua was not as easy to use as Marketo. The Salesforce email studio is not as sophisticated tool as we required.

This is the first marketing automation tool I have used for an extended period of time. When researching other tools and consulting those who have used others, Marketo is always at the top of their list as far as overall "use" is concerned. I have no desire to currently seek out other tools at this time.

I've used smaller alternatives, like Constant Contact and Act-On, and evaluated larger competitors like Pardot. Marketo worked both at my current and former company because it was always malleable enough to meet every requirement, and because the ecosystem was strong enough that I never felt like I'd be left out of some cool technology because it wasn't supported. Every little B2B start-up always supports Marketo and Salesforce first, meaning if you're using anything else, you can't really be at the cutting edge.

I have only used Marketo for email automation, I haven't used other products on the market like Eloqua. However, I believe Marketo is the market leader because they have built a top-notch platform that has superior campaign management, lead management, and integration capabilities. I would happily recommend Marketo to any company that is in the B2B enterprise space.

Marketo is leaps and bounds better than Aprimo. The issue with Aprimo is that its data segmentation and action are in the same place (which could cause issues of not done properly). Marketo makes it very easy for someone to pick up and understand the logic of what is going on. Marketo also has an amazing support team and community. If you're trying to do something, chances are someone has posted something about in the community and can definitely help you out. everything from email editor to data management it's much better with marketo.

We performed an in-depth cost-to-value comparison of three platforms that took over 4 months to complete. Marketo was by far, the most economical solution that scaled across our wide range of clients types and sizes - ranging from small businesses to enterprise level fortune 100 and 500 companies. We compared the number/cost of full-time employees (FTEs) needed to support our growth strategy, access and cost of training, access to support, level off service reliability (SRA), cost per contact record, etc. Marketo outperformed the other platforms at 2/3rd the overall cost when compared apples-to-apples.

We also spent over a month creating programs in two of the platforms: Marketo and one other... and it quickly became apparent as to which platform would enable us to drive more engaging communication programs today and for the next 5 years.

I've used MagnetMail in the past for communications. Unfortunately, it doesn't have the automation capabilities that Marketo has so we weren't able to always reach our customers in a manner that was always timely. Additionally, we found that unsubscribing through MagnetMail was particularly sticky and often left us wondering whether or not we would be in the clear from legal trouble.

HubSpot is a lot cleaner and faster. They are very open if there is an issue with the system (they will present you with a notification when you log in). The UI is much more intuitive and the learning curve is much less intense than marketo. HubSpot's support is much better than Marketo's.

Marketo has a little more power with it's programs/tokens/cloning. Again, it lacks a bit of speed that HubSpot has (it can be very slow at times). The integration with SFDC is a bit better with Marketo. The UI is dated, I believe a lot of the platform is in Flash which isn't super ideal.

When we outgrew our email campaign tool we knew it was time to step up and get a more robust marketing automation system. Our team looked at Hubspot in 2014 and it didn't fit all of our needs at that time. Marketo fits our needs very well and was a good decision.

We do continue to monitor Hubspot to see if it will fit our needs at some point since their pricing is drastically less.

We did a significant review and evaluation of the top providers, including looking at the Gartner reviews. As a mid-market user, we were looking for a tool that integrated well with Salesforce and was relatively easy for our marketing team members to use for our key needs. We chose Marketo because it was sized for our needs and advertised easy integration with SFDC. Marketing Cloud wasn't available when we did our initial evaluation and we felt that Eloqua was too cumbersome and too expensive. One of the key drivers of our decision was budget -- although now Marketo is significantly more expensive than when we first subscribed.

They are much more robust when it comes to keeping tabs on leads and customers. The ability to ensure no-duplication is fantastic in Marketo and the design and WYSIWYG editor is much more powerful and correct than Constant Contact. However, it is very reflective of these advanced features in the price.
