What is Adobe Marketo Engage?

Adobe Marketo Engage, from Adobe since 2018, aims to help marketing teams drive demand and growth in their companies by delivering exceptional experiences in concert with sales at every stage of the customer journey.

The challenge these teams face is that everyone today expects a personalized experience whenever they interact with a company - they don’t have patience for generic marketing and the last thing they want is a cold call from sales. So to stay competitive, marketing teams are scrambling to understand customers better, so they can give them a better experience, because this is disrupting entire industries. And a big part of what’s needed is figuring out how marketing and sales can do a better job together.

Adobe Marketo Engage aims to redefine Marketing Automation by helping these companies bring together the customer data, content, automation and analytics needed for marketing and sales to coordinate engagement with customers that’s personalized and measurable at every touchpoint - and do it with efficiency and scale.

Companies can't remove reviews or game the system. Here's why

Marketo is a great tool for lead generation and marketing management. I have used Pardot and SFDC previously, SFDC is most certainly more effective if used in conjunction with Marketo. We are able to get a much better handle on the incoming leads and nurture the existing ones more easily while using the platform.

The cost of Marketo is relatively high, but the features justify the cost. As long as our programs require tracking on lead gen, etc, the product will be renewed. Marketo has had spotty support in the past, but overall, the support is improving. The documentation is also getting better, but is lacking in some areas.

Marketo Does the Job

Marketo being able to integrate with Salesforce.com is the main reason why we would renew. The two programs work well together and provide us with some great lead retrieval opportunities. Next time we review, an in-depth training would be needed in order to start using the program to its full potential.

We decided to continue with Marketo because it fulfilled our current marketing needs. We are deeply integrated into their product and switching services would take too much time and effort. Overall we decided to stay with Marketo because its easy to use and fulfills our current business and marketing needs at MaxCDN.

May not be in a position to change vendors in 2014, but I would like to be able to run an RFP process just to scan the market and see what is available. This is not because we are unhappy with Marketo, but it's good to keep up with alternative platforms to understand what is happening in the market. For example, I have looked at Act-On and been impressed with what I saw. Overall though, Marketo works well for us.

The thought of stating over with a new MAP vendor is daunting, but also would present an opportunity to "get it right the first time." If I felt like our Marketo instance were currently optimized then I would have no hesitation in renewing. Unfortunately, I don't feel that way.

I hold reservations for "Great" technologies, so we'll see in time. 7 to me means it does a good job at doing what it should do. It fits well in a hybrid environment, and just makes sense. Hoping that as we see more results and maturity down the road, I'll be able to bump this score a notch or two higher.

We are actively looking at potential replacement products. The main issues are:

- Poor customer support. This is perhaps the biggest issue. The support team seems somewhat unconverned with resolving problems, and more concerned with closing support tickets as quickly as possible
- Very slow performance.
- Marketo committed to a release that would deal with the performance issue specifically. However, they never actually did so.
- Since that performance release did not materialize, we contracted with their professional services team to do some custom work to resolve our performance issues. They never i concluded that work
- The API documentation is inaccurate, which wasted a full man-week of our engineering team's time. While the inaccuracies were identified, the vendor did not compensate us in any way.

We actually just renewed. Marketo takes a while to get going. It took us a year to implement our web forms. We had to write some custom java script to get forms working how we wanted, etc. The sunk cost is considerable. We have invested a lot of time and money...too much to consider switching to another platform.

• We are considering building a home-grown system. If we feel that we can build a custom system that will provide our customers with value-added features that are not available in packages systems, we may do so.

The service works and it is reasonably well priced. There is nothing about it that would prompt me to re-evaluate. However, I am not in love with the product. By contrast, I would rate Salesforce.com a 9. I would however not give a higher rating to any other Marketing Automation tool. I have used Eloqua before and would probably give them a 5. The core functionality in Eloqua worked pretty well. The problem with it is the more advanced features were buggy and hard to set-up.
