What is Adobe Marketo Engage?

Adobe Marketo Engage, from Adobe since 2018, aims to help marketing teams drive demand and growth in their companies by delivering exceptional experiences in concert with sales at every stage of the customer journey.

The challenge these teams face is that everyone today expects a personalized experience whenever they interact with a company - they don’t have patience for generic marketing and the last thing they want is a cold call from sales. So to stay competitive, marketing teams are scrambling to understand customers better, so they can give them a better experience, because this is disrupting entire industries. And a big part of what’s needed is figuring out how marketing and sales can do a better job together.

Adobe Marketo Engage aims to redefine Marketing Automation by helping these companies bring together the customer data, content, automation and analytics needed for marketing and sales to coordinate engagement with customers that’s personalized and measurable at every touchpoint - and do it with efficiency and scale.

Companies can't remove reviews or game the system. Here's why

For all routing and lead management. I also use them to sync to Salesforce and to move between programs or manage program members.
They keep everything organized and run our Marketo platform. Without them it'd be very disorganized.

We use smart campaigns to update fields, update program statuses, send email, sync with Salesforce etc.
The smart lists are key!

We use smart campaigns all the time for automating workflows. For instance we have nurture segments where based on the lead's stage in the lifecycle they would be placed in different nurture segments that would have content tailored to what that lead is likely considering, hung up on, or needing that could help them progress to the next stage of the lifecycle preparatory to converting into a qualified sales opportunity.
I have also used smart campaigns for updating salesforce records. This is essential to maintaining consistent reporting across key SaaS platforms, and preventing duplication of "lead/contact" records and inaccurate reporting.

This could be a long article!
Smart Campaigns=Workflows. They are the core of making Marketo work for you. For example, Lead Scoring will have a trigger of Clicks Link in Email and it will let you choose all or some emails that are sent. I typically let that run 1x / hour to avoid over scoring.
Smart Campaign concept is common across MAPs. I would say that Marketo's Schedule options differentiate it from other tools because Marketo allows more nuanced scheduling as well as lets you easily see dozens of flows in the system at once. Other tools will tend to hide the running flows so you have a hard time seeing how each one works together.

Smart campaigns are essentially automation rules in most cases. We will implement a smart campaign when we need to exclude records in campaigns (ex. do not want to mail to). We start y creating a single Smart Campaign to remove the records from other Smart Campaigns ensures the selected records are removed without messing with any of the other records already in.
Automates a process that would otherwise be very manual. Excluding records is a huge use case.

We use Smart Campaigns in all of our non-nurture programs. We have used varying filter criteria to create these:
Member of Program for any registration related communciations
State for localized (not segmented) information
Member of Smart Lists like industry or job title

Smart Campaigns are the backbone of our communications process and all of our programs.
Smart Campaigns have really expanded what we can do with our data. In other systems I have used in the past, list building was tedious and not precise because lists were create ad-hoc and became stale very quickly. With Smart Campaigns, we can access real time data to connect with the most relevant audience.

We use smart campaigns in Marketo for all of our operational flows. For example, we'll use a smart campaign to take the Marketo Person Score (formula field) to paste into a 'Marketo Score' (text field) so we can push that value to Salseforce.com. Any data value change flow, goes through smart campaigns.
We've found great value from using smart campaigns and also using them to request another campaign. It is possible to run one campaign with a large amount of flow steps. We stray away from this strategy and request another campaign to do additional flow steps. Having multiple campaigns, that are requested by other campaigns, allows us to properly troubleshoot and also optimize processes.

We use smart campaigns for almost everything we do. One example of filter criteria is listed below:
  • Member of smart list is ______
  • Exclusion segment is ______
  • Email address is ____

I don't know what we would use if we didn't use smart campaigns. I suppose we can use Marketo's email campaign program but I like the flexibility that I get with using smart campaigns.

We use smart campaigns for all our marketing programs. It is the core function of Marketo, and is the way to run all your campaigns (send emails, update data, manage leads, sync to CRM etc.)
Smart campaigns are very effective, as you can combine your target audience with your flow step.
So in one overview, you determine who you want to target, how you want to do it, and when.

Smart campaigns make sending emails very easy as you can ensure that you do not send to recipients that should be blocked and you can also easily filter down to a specific audience. We have used Smart campaigns to target specific members of a program to follow up with using a personalized email.
The benefit of Smart Campaigns is their ease of use. You can user them to trigger on one contact and perform an action, or rollup a large group of people and run a series of flow steps. Marketo also provides intuitive features to ensure your smart campaigns will run before scheduling them.

We leverage Marketo's smart campaigns heavily. For example, our integration with ZenDesk watches a custom field in Salesforce and when that field is updated with a particular customer role it triggers some new customer onboarding materials to be sent out.
We love smart campaigns and use them regularly. Of all the marketing automation suites I believe Marketo has the fullest number of triggers and filters, which give marketers the flexibility they need to be smarter in their marketing segmentation and content distribution.

We use Smart Campaigns for the traditional uses like setting up who an email should go to, but we also use them to segment out an audience or use them to be a part of a larger Smart List. We also use Smart Campaigns to identify users of our content in real-time.

Used to send multiple rounds of emails to a select list of people. I currently use for event invites, which have 2 rounds of invites. we do not want to include those who have already registered in the second send, so our smart campaign filters this out.

We utilize interesting moment tokens to pull in the action and assets that triggering alerts. We use interesting moment tokens for things like "Filled out form: Global-Web-Forms.Contact Us" in your alerts. The tokens used for that would be: {{trigger.Trigger Name}}: {{trigger.Name}}
Providing us with valuable information which has allowed us to generate more opportunities and close more deals faster for more money.

Marketo's smart campaigns allow us to complete very advanced filters, to target correspondence on customer preference as well as on information that we know increases our response rates. We want our correspondence to be relevant and engaging, advanced filters allow us to do that on a more massive scale.

Our SmartCampaigns are used primarily for communicating new updates to our various teams within our organization. As such, our initial filter revolves around sorting the audience to whom the updates apply. Our Sales Rep team has their own selection in the “Program Member” filter just as our Operations team has a selection.
SmartCampaigns are useful for separating which communications go out to which team, but we do not use this features very frequently. Our teams have their own internal communications methods and since Salesforce is always up to date, there is just a common practice of checking that source for the most relevant data.
