What is Adobe Marketo Engage?

Adobe Marketo Engage, from Adobe since 2018, aims to help marketing teams drive demand and growth in their companies by delivering exceptional experiences in concert with sales at every stage of the customer journey.

The challenge these teams face is that everyone today expects a personalized experience whenever they interact with a company - they don’t have patience for generic marketing and the last thing they want is a cold call from sales. So to stay competitive, marketing teams are scrambling to understand customers better, so they can give them a better experience, because this is disrupting entire industries. And a big part of what’s needed is figuring out how marketing and sales can do a better job together.

Adobe Marketo Engage aims to redefine Marketing Automation by helping these companies bring together the customer data, content, automation and analytics needed for marketing and sales to coordinate engagement with customers that’s personalized and measurable at every touchpoint - and do it with efficiency and scale.

Companies can't remove reviews or game the system. Here's why

I have been working with Marketo for about two years and am a Marketo System Administrator (technical user) so with my experience and background I find it easy to use and navigate. However, non-technical users have a hard time using the system.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Marketo really is designed for the power-user, for the marketing team members that spend the bulk of their work week in the software. Casual, once-a-month-emailing users will have a long on-ramp time getting to know the ins and outs of the system, but daily users really unlock the power behind the system by using the vast array of tools and techniques available to them. It is rare that I come across a marketing challenge that I can't tackle with Marketo.

I have found Marketo more easy to use and flexible than any other product that we've looked at. It also integrates with various other systems that we use including our CRM and event partners. This allows us to seamlessly move through our day and provide up-to-date and accurate information to our sales and customer service team.

Marketo seems to have a lot of moving bits, which is great because you can create very specific campaigns. However, it can be a bit confusing at first and I still use the community and support tickets to find answers to my questions. Luckily there are so many user and the support team is quick to respond that I am usually able to fix the issue within the week.

Marketo is easy to navigate - one of the easiest tools I've used. The GUI is intuitive for new users too. The constantly ask for user feedback which helps them remain at the top of the class in usability! (imho)

Marketo is very sophisticated--once you get the hang of it, the usability becomes more and more intuitive. Getting started, Marketo can be overwhelming. Definitely take advantage of your consultant during your launch pack as well as office hours and any training you can attend! The more you learn and the more quickly you learn, the more equipped you will be.

If you are looking to start using Marketo out of the box then I think this system will work great for you. There are many templates that Marketo provides the end user with to get you started. From email templates to forms and landing pages you should be up and running rather smoothly. When we implemented Marketo the new update had not released yet so customizing email templates to look and feel exactly like your brand were a bit cumbersome. We used Litmus to make changes to the code and plugged the html back into the template within Marketo. Now with the new upgrade we are excited that a lot of that customization should go away and can be done all within the new Marketo email editor.

I think it's extremely easy to use, based on the amount of new users that I've had to train and support and how quickly they're able to be self sufficient. It helps Marketing users understand what's possible so they dream bigger and think bigger than just the standard types of MA programs.

Overall, once you get to know Marketo, it is a simple system to use and to be "good" at using. Most of the complexity comes from each unique integration with a CRM which leads to many many more fields, more variables, but also much more insight. You can also go beyond basic usage very quickly, and get more in-depth campaigns and reporting -- but you don't have to in order to be successful with Marketo.

The product is easy to use over time, but does take time to learn and understand correctly. It is a robust software and deserves the time and respect to learn. If someone is running the product and doesn't understand best practices, he/she can cause a number of issues. Once someone has spent time in the system, it is simply to navigate and manipulate.
