What is Adobe Marketo Engage?

Adobe Marketo Engage, from Adobe since 2018, aims to help marketing teams drive demand and growth in their companies by delivering exceptional experiences in concert with sales at every stage of the customer journey.

The challenge these teams face is that everyone today expects a personalized experience whenever they interact with a company - they don’t have patience for generic marketing and the last thing they want is a cold call from sales. So to stay competitive, marketing teams are scrambling to understand customers better, so they can give them a better experience, because this is disrupting entire industries. And a big part of what’s needed is figuring out how marketing and sales can do a better job together.

Adobe Marketo Engage aims to redefine Marketing Automation by helping these companies bring together the customer data, content, automation and analytics needed for marketing and sales to coordinate engagement with customers that’s personalized and measurable at every touchpoint - and do it with efficiency and scale.

Common task are very easy to accomplish. Once you branch out into the uncommon limitations in the software may prevent you from accomplishing you goals.

Marketo is awesome. The features provided make it very easy to scale, and provide fast and efficient campaign creation. The only area that is lacking today is responsive landing page design. However, I understand that this is a feature that is on the roadmap for mid-2015 release. Compared to other MAPs that I have used before, Marketo is definitely a cut above.

I still believe Marketo is the best marketing automation platform available for an enterprise. It is the most complete, easiest to use (with the right training), and overall best value. Others have nice features and may excel in particular areas, but none are as complete as Marketo.

I don't like the giant buttons in the middle of the page when you click on a campaign. I prefer a top to bottom experience and I feel like it's left to right, up and down and all over the place. Unless you know what you're doing, it's somewhat hard to figure out without reading and viewing a lot of tutorials.

Things are a little backwards. I would expect to build the workflow first and then insert assets like landing pages, email templates, and then other assets. It works the opposite way around: Build asserts first and then you build your flow, i.e. Target these people / send this email. The fact that everything is in different tabs doesn't help and the process is not very intuitive. It would be easier to use if the design was more visual. For example, design a flow chart using a visual design tool, and then insert an email at one point and a landing page at another.

Marketo's interface divides work areas into four main areas: Marketing Activities, Design Studio, Lead Database, and Analytics. This make sit very easy to design marketing campaigns step-by-step from the ground up. Similarly, Marketo Programs can be cloned, so if you have a series of events to set up, for example, you can create one program, clone it, and simply modify tokens instead of recreating entire assets for every event. I knocked a couple points off because there is no real visual interface, it can sometimes be hard to know when or if you're creating conflicting campaigns, and you do need a little technical expertise to be able to set things up.

Drag and drop functionality. Auto-save, Auto-lookup of information, WYSYWIG interface for landing pages that is truly a WYSYWIG and almost always delivers full cross-browser compliance.

I found it to be very intuitive. However, the sales team still struggled a bit. This was not really a product issue since all they had to do was open a tab to look at leads. The issue was just getting them to change their process.

• Pretty intuitive design: simple drag and drop metaphor is easy to use. UI can be a bit slow to respond, but is definitely intuitive.

You can basically navigate around the application and I can get the basics done. It is however not intuitive for helping me at the next level. For example, I can see our subscriber growth rate and go into a specific campaign, but there’s nothing that makes it easy for me to segment, e.g. what % in this campaign were new vs. old. It doesn’t take me to the next level on things that I should think about. MailChimp by comparison is better at this. It feels like an operating environment vs. an environment to optimize decisions. I do all that kind of reporting in Salesforce.com. Frankly I am more comfortable knocking around in Salesforce.com.
