It is designed to be very customizable. Even when you can't do something directly out of the box, if you know how to code, you can write up a script. Matillion users do need to be fairly tech-savvy to get the most out of this tool. Ideally, power users will have a good understanding of how to use RESTful APIs.

It is pretty intuitive to put together a job. Once you get into larger organization features like creating environments, projects, and mapping the two together, it gets pretty hairy. The other place where it's not really intuitive is to get an overall picture of health in your ETL jobs, find where failures are happening, and really trace those down. For failures, I often drop down to interface with the database directly to get useful information. Matillion has these capabilities, but I find the processes often hang when trying to access them.

Easy to configure and intuitive user interface makes development quick and easy. Usage instruction for each component is integrated within each component. Execution steps logging, clear error messages and error handling reduce development time. Auto documentations for Jobs is an excellent feature.

I like the way Matillion is set up and in most cases it's very easy to figure out what I need to do and where to find it. Sometimes it takes a little longer to figure out the solution.

  • Inline documentation for each component is useful.
  • Waiting for an active job to finish running before revalidating & applying parameter updates can be a bit frustrating sometimes, especially for long-running jobs.

The learning curve was not too big and was able to kick off the data warehousing project soon after a small POC. Additionally, minimum scripting was required with good out of box support for connecting with Marketing, CRM tools. Various SQL views could be recreated in the UI which made maintenance easy for less tech-savvy users

Matillion had a great graphic user interface experience. There are plenty of components to work with. There is a huge learning curve with this tool. Also, these questions are getting a little redundant.

It was very easy to get started with Matillion. Their in-app documentation on the components, as well as more detailed external knowledge base, was good enough for us to build out our entire ELT pipeline with minimal outside help.

Very intuitive to build and follow jobs. Excellent documentation and online support make it great for quick turn-around projects. Self-documenting jobs help with understanding. When building the SQL transformations, the ability to debug, sample, and filter out the returned results at any point in the job makes it so easy to test and understand what is going on.

It is a very straight forward tool setup with all the required features and caters for situations such as S3 buckets requiring data to be encrypted from Matillion when being loaded. It us very easy to setup and very easy to manage.

It is not the most intuitive tool, but it is easy for someone to pick up. Someone not as technical may struggle with it, even though the majority of users would be technical. However it is sold as an 'anyone can use this' tool.
