What is MiCloud Connect?

MiCloud Connect (formerly ShoreTel) is a business communications solution that combines a distributed communications platform, intuitive user applications, IP phones, and an easy-to-use management system that integrates with leading business information systems. Voice Switches are purpose-built appliances providing VoIP telephony with reliability and availability. The appliances help extend system capabilities and secure access for remote IP phones and SIP service providers.

ShoreTel was acquired by Mitel in 2017; according to Mitel, they will continue to offer and support ShoreTel products, now under the name MiCloud Connect.

I have not used a wide array of communication software, but this far ShoreTel/MiCloud has been the simplest and easiest to get into. My work employs several temps at certain points throughout the year, and they use this piece of software frequently, and new hires seem to have little to no issue using this software. Additionally, this is our primary telephone communication infrastructure, and I have yet to encounter any issues when signed in and regularly using it handling external calls to our department.

I used to be pro-Shoretel, but then we made the mistake of switching from the M5 created "Sky" cloud service to Shoretel's "Connect". Basically we switched from one cloud service to another; and that was the fatal mistake. Since the switch we have wasted so much time just trying to get the phones to work, when they do, the reporting is constantly throwing error messages. Shoretel's technical support also used to be amazing, but now, you are lucky to get someone on the phone within 30 minutes; and when you do, they usually have an attitude. We are currently looking elsewhere for service.

I've used other phone systems in the past. The Shoretel Communicator software installed on your computer is what sets Shoretel apart from their competitors. From there, you can check your voicemail, view your missed calls, dial by name, transfer calls, start a conference call, and many other features for a business environment.

The client application is easy to navigate and intuitive for all the frequently used call and phone management features. On the server side, well-organized menu selections appropriately grouped by function, make locating specific settings much quicker. As you drill further into the detailed settings, the pages with their various fields are well-labeled, and help is easy to find on their intended contents. As an administrator of the system I became proficient in its use with little training.

Usability is where ShoreTel thrives. Not only does it work well, it is easy to use for anybody. It is designed so that even the least tech savvy individual can utilize the system to the fullest extent. No one feaure is "too compex", and can be used by anyone. The system can be easily maintained by an individual as it is easy to learn how to do so, or with the partner network provided by ShoreTel, a customer can simply choose to be fully supported by the partner. Finally, the ability to "rack & Stack" or simply the scalability is second to none as it is super easy to add users and once certain thresholds are reach (for example- a 59 person company adding 41 users will simply go over 100 users with a license.
