ShoreTel beats the competition in several areas - ROI, TCO, end user adoption rate, ease of administration, ease of deployment, system up time, ability to scale easily and sound quality of each and every call.

We implemented Shoretel in early 2008 (currently 6 years ago). At the time we did an extensive RFP which included proposals from Cisco, Mitel and others. We looked at costs, features and management and ShoreTel was a winner across the board for our environment and needs.

Both Cisco and Avaya were evaluated by our firm. We carefully reviewed their documentation, went to demos for all three, and talked to several references. We chose ShoreTel due to lower initial costs, lower maintenance costs, colleague reviews and our testing of their product. We were extremely happy with our decision, and have recommended ShoreTel to several other firms in our space.

ShoreTel Sky scores big on customer services and compared to the competition (XO, Avaya, etc...) they are very accessible which is huge, especially in regards to getting problems fixed. Cost wise they are very, very competitive and they beat everyone else's prices we looked at. I can't say the reliability is there for a call center environment, but they are getting better. They take suggestions for their apps and software. Overall I am pleased with them, they are a young services with plenty of growing to do, but I would recommend them to most.

I am an IT professional, so I don't have a lot of experience with non-VoIP systems. The biggest advantage of ShoreTel in the businesses where I have worked is its call center features. Also, the system can be mostly configured and maintained by IT.

  • Lync,RingCentral,Grasshopper
Microsoft Lync is a worthy alternative, offering the same feature setup and more, but can be more difficult to setup. Lync is NOT a "Next-> Next -> Finish" implementation/setup process. RingCentral is ok. It is a low-cost alternative that is hosted and works well for small businesses (less than 50 users). However, they have a ways to go. The service can be spotty, the software is buggy, and sometimes the call routing is a mess. Grasshopper is excellent. Extremely easy to use!

  • Cisco Unified Contact Center,Microsoft Lync
ShoreTel does a lot of things right, and very few wrong. Cisco is fantastic but can be needlessly complex, and their softphone technologies just don't work as well. Lync is a great product as well, but unfortunately just doesn't tie in to an infrastructure the way that I'd like to see for a full-stack VOIP solution.

Shoretel was in the VOIP business from the beginning. They have mature development processes and their software is stable. They did not just lump products from other acquisitions and slap a new brand on their product. I have used open source systems (Asterisk) to 3COM VCX platform with their integrated network switching platform. The difference is, Shoretel has had the end to end software and monitoring visibility to ensure the product is working efficiently. From using the Shoreware Director to view network statistics to the ECC Monitoring of agent calls and activity. The Reporting uses Crystal Reports and was an easy transition for our teams who already had this skillset. Testing was a huge sucess over the other products. The ability to test the trunk you are working in the Test Trunk Tool. Not having to be physically in the location to test the PRI's when needed. Other systems have this too, but they are not as easy to use in my opinion. Lastly the licensing model is straight forward and not expensive. They are competitive with the market.

Smooth Stone was the only other VoIP provider we researched. We also looked at going with another PBX system. We chose ShoreTel Sky (M5) because of their pricing structure and services offered.

Aptela. I chose M5 (ShoreTelSky) because their platform puts call quality first. Their system also uses Cisco endpoints, which are very compatible with the rest of my Cisco network. I also liked the fact that ShoreTelSky uses the internet only as a backup for transport; I use MPLS as my primary connectivity.
