a scalable enterprise class data backup and recovery solution
providing data backup protection for a range of IT environments.
With multiple built-in security features, it provides the last line of
defense against cyber-attacks, allowing companies to recover their
critical business data should a disaster or ransomware attack occur. Based on a
unified, flexible multi-tier architecture, it enables centralized data
protection across physical, virtual and cloud environments. The new Cloud
Workloads offering adds backup for the full Microsoft 365 suite, as well

Micro Focus Data Protector - a very nice backup tool
- Micro Focus Data Protector has a very customizable backup schedule, allowing to edit the flat file according to our security policies.
- Micro Focus Data Protector has a very easy to use interface.
- We can update its clients in a very easy way.
- There are some hard-to-implement integrations, such as Office 365, Acrople virtual center, and Vmware granular recovery
- Some hardware is discontinued, despite their factories still having support, like a tape library, for example.
- Micro Focus Data Protector support has to improve a better service. Some open cases take too long to solve.
- Good application integrations.
- Great variety of supported backup target devices.
- Single pane of glass for all type of backups.
- Support for cloud native architecture.

- better reporting (f.e.: a report which client selections are within a backup spec, which spec uses which backup device,...)

HP Data Protector does the job well.
- Longevity. We could go back 6 months+ to recover data.
- Reliability. Always worked.
- I had light interaction with this system, so it would not be fair for me to say where there is a need for improvement. It worked the way we need it do to get the job done.

Data Protector better for Unix than Windows
- It is very reliable on the server side to provide a trustworthy back end.
- The install was simple and provided an easy way to install and backup Unix servers.
- The support was always helpful and responded quickly.
- They seem to be behind the ball on adapting newer technology.
- Importing backup indexes were not the easiest task and required a Unix admin.
- The client side install was not very compact.

Experienced in Data Protector
- Easy to install and set up cell manager, deploy clients and configure backup devices. Integration options for databases and virtual environments makes backup and restore of these systems easier through the GUI.
- Scheduling options allow the user to set specific times for backups of a host or group them together with the advance scheduling option and set priorities of which systems get access to backup devices.
- Licensing options are tiered and can scale from a very small environment to a larger one when needed.
- Granular recovery extension plugins need to be documented better and kept up to date, this would aid in the installation of these plugins.
- When deploying Granular Recovery Extensions for VMware and Exchange, security options of the cell need to be turned off (Secure Cell and Encrypted Communication).
- Reporting on scheduled backups via the advanced scheduling option are non-existent, this needs to be available.

- Nothing it is an average product.
- Tech support - every person I spoke with had a different idea on how to fix a problem. Many times they caused the problem resulting in double or triple work.
