This software is being used across our organization. We are slowly implementing it in layers to maximize everyone's use of all of the features. It allows us to keep our documents and data secure and to streamline many processes that were traditionally very limited by the lack of technological innovations. We can use Teams to communicate in real time but keep work conversations out of our text messages. Everything integrated with Sharepoint, outlook, teams, OneDrive, and Power Apps makes communication and collaboration a breeze - especially when our employees work out of separate locations.
  • Communication in real time integrated with document creation and sharing.
  • Mobile apps available with full functionality on the go.
  • Calendar and Sharepoint functionality is essential to the success of our mission.
  • Some features could be much easier to use than they currently are. Some of the apps and other features require a developer or other Microsoft Certified expert and are not as user friendly as we'd like them to be.
  • Training is available through third parties but organizations don't always have the time to do this. The self help articles on the Microsoft website are outdated sometimes - and can be a waste of time without you realizing it until it's too late!
  • Data integrity could be better managed - many times through the setup process when we upload items in bulk, the upload manager will indicate a successful data transfer but the file will be corrupted (and we didn't notice it until after we deleted the originals).
Microsoft 365 Business Premium is appropriate for medium sized organizations that require lots of real-time collaboration and data sharing. It's truly the standard for collaboration with customers or other individuals outside of your organization as well. I would recommend purchasing some sort of onboarding assistance if offered to train and assist employees and leaders in the organization with implementing this software so that it can be used to the fullest extent. This particular subscription would be less appropriate for smaller organizations or independent entrepreneurs.
  • Microsoft Office Suite of Apps with collaboration features integrated (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Microsoft OneDrive
  • Microsoft Sharepoint Sites and Groups
  • Outlook and Calendars
  • Easier collaboration and team work
  • Saved time especially when working from multiple locations
  • Calendars keep everyone organized within the same platform
  • *We wouldn't be able to function without this software so the ROI is everything that we can do successfully in our organization!
  • Google Workspace (formerly G Suite) and monday.com
These products simply do not compare in terms of universal compatibility, features, integrations, user-friendliness, and overall cost. Google is free but not as secure and too cloud-based for our needs as a medium-sized organization. I would recommend Google to independent entrepreneurs and not larger organizations. Microsoft 365 Business Premium has countless apps that allow integration with other software including the two I mentioned here, but go far above and beyond what these apps can do, and even better, Microsoft 365 keeps everything in the same unified system so we don't have to have multiple apps that don't communicate with one another, and separate logins for those apps.
The basic apps are straightforward and easy to use, especially since they have been around so long. I'm referring to the basic apps like Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, OneNote, etc. Other features such as Microsoft Teams and Sharepoint Sites, Sharepoint Lists, Sharepoint Groups, etc. all require a higher level of knowledge to both implement and use properly.
  • Microsoft Word
  • Microsoft Outlook
  • Microsoft PowerPoint
  • Microsoft Excel
  • Maximizing capabilities within Microsoft Teams
  • Maximizing capabilities within Microsoft Sharepoint
  • Maximizing capabilities within Microsoft OneDrive
Yes
Excellent! All of the features (except uploading items directly to SharePoint) are available through the mobile app interfaces.

Microsoft 365 Business was deployed across the whole organisation. It has completely replaced our previous mail system, instant messaging and telephony system, all based on Lotus Notes, and also provides storage to replace our shared drives.

It has enabled cross-department collaboration and provided a cultural change in which ideas, documents and workflows move fluidly and flexibly within different teams and stakeholders. Even the humble telephone is now viewed differently, it has merged into a work-space, conferencing tool and support aid provided by the features of Teams and Skype for Business.
  • The provision of fast communications; voice, video and messaging through Skype.
  • The provision of "Slow Burn" communications through Yammer.
  • Licensing can be difficult to understand, there are many features and various differing plans to provide their functionality. For example, Enterprise Mobility and Security can exist as a single license or it may be included within an Office Product.
  • Operating in Hybrid modes can be challenging and interfacing between on-premise and the cloud needs careful attention to detail.
It is absolutely great for collaboration, communication and document sharing. It needs thought about how it is deployed to users within your organisation. It empowers your users to use the tools in a way that benefits them. It is not prescriptive, it can be shaped around how people work. Mobile field based users can work and collaborate just as easily as office based staff. They can access the information they want, when they want, how they want on whatever equipment they want.

Remember to think about the features and the licencing you require. It can be challenging, seek help if you are not sure or you may lose price efficiencies.
  • Traditional telephony costs have reduced.
  • Storage costs have diminished.
  • HCL Sametime (formerly from IBM)
Getting up and running with Microsoft 365 was easier and provided a more intuitive user experience. There was a learning curve but on the whole it was better received.
Support has been great from the on-boarding team to support staff dealing with genuine bugs and niggles. Support tickets have always been responded ro quickly and escalations have been handled well. Sometimes the suggested solution can be clunky but this product evolves and the suggested solution may only be temporary until and permanent fix is developed. You must remember that not everything in Microsoft 365 is configured through a browser so knowledge of Powershell is very useful.

It is part of the organisation now. It provides and rich feature set and requires a relatively low amount of administration.
  • Using groups to apply licences.
  • Sharing documents is so easy.
  • The administrative portals are constantly changing.
  • You will probably become quite good at powershell to provide complex automation.
Yes
It is just a cut down version of the desktop products which you can access from a browser. It is not as full featured as the full client version but it does allow limited editing and reading features on a mobile device.
It is intuitive and each product interfaces with each other wherever possible.
All required Powershell with bespoke programming. Can be done with the right skills.

On Premise Active Directory.
If things are supported with the AD-Connect service then use it. We used ADFS and now we are actively decommissioning it.
Use the new features of the AD-Connect service where possible. Sometimes you may need to use interface files and scripts.
