The business intelligence capabilities of Dynamics GP help users become proactive when it comes to their financials, allowing businesses to not only fix problems, but also prevent them from occurring in the first place.
  • GP’s native integration with Microsoft Office, and other commonly used business tools like SharePoint and Outlook, makes it easy for businesses to further centralize their tasks
  • The platform can also be deployed in a number of ways, giving businesses flexibility when it comes to how they choose to store their Dynamics data and how they access the system.
  • it’s a proven product, having been in use since the early 2000s. It also has the benefit of Microsoft’s trusted name, and the familiar look and feel of other Microsoft products.
  • Server maintenance costs and hardware costs of Dynamics GP are very high.
  • We do not get advanced features such as data analysis and mobile accessibility
  • We do not get warehousing and budgeting functionalities
Dynamics GP is most suitable in budgeting, reporting, ways to segment the general ledger account structure, and support for fixed asset management and eBanking.

GP good for big company

We are a local restaurant chain. We used GP for everything except food cost. It was just too big a program for what we needed. It covered billing, payroll, and end of year processes. We had to buy the extra package for W2s every year.
  • Account capacity
  • Reports and Smart Lists
  • Lots of add-ons products
  • Licenses are strict
  • Can't just delete transactions, must reverse journals too (not automated)
  • Updates are not coming, becoming stagnant
  • Some features require in depth training or outside contractors
Probably best for a large business where each department deals with each account. Too big for a small office where one person bills everything.

  • Great for detailed organizations with lots of account codes or locations
  • AP and AR are strong, GL is detailed
  • Custom reports are tedious
  • Lots of plug in of different price ranges
  • Upgrading is expensive
Xero is easier to use, closer to Quickbooks. Most of the background GL is automated, where as in GP it is not.
We had to use an outside service for updating and custom reports
I had 2 GP manual that were no help, and online searches were impossible to find how to's or help with certain things.

Microsoft Dynamics GP is used by all employees in our organization for time and expense entry. It is also used by our Finance and HR teams for most accounting functions - billing, general ledger, payables, bank rec, safe pay and EFT for payables, financial reporting and management of paid time off.
  • User friendly interface
  • Able to be extended into multiple areas of your business
  • One feature we have been using for a few years is EFT for payables - it has significantly reduced the time spent paying vendors and reduced our check printing and mailing costs. It is very easy to setup and use.
  • search functionality could be improved within native GP functionality - we use Rockton Smartfill to improve search capabilities.
GP is very flexible and can be used in a wide variety of industries.

  • We have used GP for 10 years which is significantly longer than we most software tools.
  • Bank rec, EFT for payables and Smartfill have significantly reduced processing time for our accounting team.
  • Safepay reduces our fraud risk

As resellers of Microsoft Dynamics GP, we employ a well trained team who support our clients as well as our internal users. Our team includes former Microsoft support desk employees and former users of GP.
I have always had my issues resolved timely
The functionality that GP and related ISV solutions offer and the ease of integration of GP to other systems makes it an extremely scalable solution.

It is used for GL and AR & AP. A third party module is used for advanced planning and inventory management.
  • Simplicity of exporting smartlists directly to Excel in order to quickly analyze data
  • Ability to quickly import large journal entries as well as other data using integration manager
  • Printable manuals make it easy when you want to look for how to do something specific
  • Reporting and the ability to export reports to Excel; like a historical AP or AR aging; inventory reports
  • Regarding inventory management GP is only adequate to support a distribution type of business or the most basic high level manufacturing
  • It cannot be used in an advanced manufacturing environment; our company currently uses a third party inventory and planning module and will be searching for a replacement; as controller of the company I cannot defend the opinions from our Operations group that GP cannot handle our business without requiring a third party interface
Microsoft Dynamics GP is very well suited for distribution but it cannot be a solution for complex manufacturing.

  • It's a good basic easy to use software and we are pushing it to our Hong Kong and China business units (the entities that don't have advanced manufacturing)
  • oracle,QuickBooks Premier
Microsoft Dynamics is a good, easy to use product for entities that do not have advanced manufacturing.
If I were to go into a distribution or service type business I would highly recommend it.
If I were to go into an advanced manufacturing environment I would not consider GP.
No
The key to support for GP is having a good third party Microsoft Certified firm. I do not deal with Microsoft support directly. I have a great third party firm that I use for my support needs which is fantastic. Without this thrid party not sure where I would be.
The rating is directed to the thrid party serive provider that we use. I do not now how good the Microsoft direct support is.
No
There are many times where our third party service provider has provided exceptional support.
