What is SharePoint?

MS SharePoint / SQL refers to Microsoft Sharepoint, a web-based collaborative platform, being used in tandem with Microsoft SQL Server to provide business intelligence analytics and reporting. They can provide BI content such as data connections, reports, scorecards, dashboards, and more.

With Sharepoint, users can share files, data, news, and resources. Sites can be customized to streamline teams’ work. Team members can collaborate inside and outside the organization, across PCs, Macs, and mobile devices.

Sharepoint also supports the ability to discover data, expertise, and insights to inform decisions and guide action. SharePoint’s content management features, along with connections and conversations surfaced in Yammer, enable organizations to maximize their velocity of knowledge.

Users can also accelerate productivity by transforming processes—from tasks like notifications and approvals to operational workflows. With SharePoint lists and libraries, Microsoft Flow, and PowerApps, they can create digital experiences with forms, workflows, and custom apps for every device.

  • It depends on the maturity of complementing apps in the Office 365 environment like Flow, PowerApps, PowerBI, etc.. We just migrated to Office 365, so we are rebuilding out toolkit and learning the new environment.
  • Mobile is significant because it is underexplored. Moving to Office365 has opened the possibility of mobile development and integration.
  • We are currently looking at the future of SharePoint weighed agains the future of Teams. SharePoint and Teams are not the same, but finding a harmonious way to weave the two together is important to the survival of each through consolidation.

  • We need to expand on our usage of news. Some groups are sharing announcements this way, but the roll-up functionality to send some news further up the chain for the entire organization needs to be better utilized.
  • I think there is even greater capabilities for remote workers. The data is in the cloud, and we should start hiring more and more remote workers, saving on office space and getting the best candidates no matter where they live.
  • We need to empower our business users to build their own solutions. You can only come to IT so much, but if we can train up other users to do some of the work themselves, building more and more line-of-business applications can only continue to grow, and we will reap even more business efficiencies as more and more people are comfortable using the tools out there and building their own.

  • More robust collaboration between teams and better content creation to be widely distributed across the company for both internal/external use purposes
