What is Microsoft Teams?

Microsoft Teams combines video conferencing software with team collaboration tools. The communications platform allows MS Office users to conduct conference calls and share files via SharePoint, and join or initiate a group chat.

Microsoft Teams features three tiers of pricing. The first is a subscription-less, free option that offers the same features as the other two tiers but does not offer administration tools like analytics and access to on-premise servers, or support features like 24/7 phone and web support. The second and third tiers are based on the size of your business and its conferencing needs. Its “Office 365 Business Premium” option starts at $12.50 a month per user, with a required annual commitment, and its “Office 365 E3” option for enterprises starts at $20 a month per user, also with a required annual commitment.

Key Features
Meetings: Meet with teams of 10 or 10,000. Host audio, video, and web conferences with anyone inside or outside your organization or go big with live events.

Calling: Its Phone System feature enables PBX capabilities including call control in Office 365 and replaces on-premises PBX. Its calling features are customizable to fit your organization’s unique needs.

Microsoft Teams is living up to our expectations, we are able to achieve back our return on investment. Not just the investment or revenue but we have successfully achieved our business goal. The communication both inbound and outbound has been at par with our expectations and we were able to achieve the shortcomings that we faced challenged with similar day-to-day operations.

  • Skype for Business (formerly Lync) and now part of Microsoft Teams
I have mainly used the Microsoft messaging tools so I can only compare between them. Overall, I like Teams better than the older versions such as Skype for Business. They did drop one or two features but I can't even remember what they were now. The ones they added are great like document storage and task boards.

  • Zoom, Skype for Business and now part of Microsoft Teams
Teams are just way ahead of these platforms.
The overall collaboration options and integration with other platforms and online usability options are great.
With the mobile and web access options, you are truly able to collaborate and work wherever you are from whatever capable device you have.

Microsoft Teams is a far better product to use than Skype as it offers a more user-friendly interface. It is also easier to set up and use. I found that Teams has a better layout and is used by more people, making it a better and friendlier system to use.

Microsoft Teams is becoming the norm for a lot of companies. I can't say that it beats Slack in every respect but, from my limited experience with Slack, I would say Microsoft Teams is initially easier to use and understand. When it comes to integrations, however, Slack still has the upper hand on Microsoft Teams. Although, I doubt Microsoft Teams will be that way for long. Just in the last year, Microsoft Teams has made a lot of improvements. I would only expect that to increase.

Our company and IT department previously used Skype for our communication needs. Skype was not dependable in my opinion, because it seems each time I used it during a call and/or a meeting, I and several other team members would get disconnected more than once. This caused a great interruption of our meeting, caused team members to have to ask others to repeat themselves and caused a general lack of interest in employee attendance during meetings.

  • Skype for Business (formerly Lync) and now part of Microsoft Teams
Microsoft Teams over powered the Skype for business due to few major reasons, like Ms teams is windows authentic application, Ms teams is best linked with other window's applications and as well as outlook and one drive.
Ms teams allows much larger no. of people to join in a meetings and its easily accessible via phone.

  • Zoom and HCL Sametime (formerly from IBM)
Moving to Microsoft Teams from IBM Sametime chat services provided Intact a great ahead into the productivity and response times for both internal and external customers/brokers. Sametime doesn't have the capability to make voice calls from either a desktop or a mobile app instantly. This feature provided Intact with cost savings by eliminating desk phones (Avaya) for various teams intact.

Teams has very similar virtual meeting capabilities to Zoom, however it can sometimes lack in connectivity reliability compared to Zoom. It also lacks some key features vs. Zoom, such as the ability to manage breakout rooms multiple times in the same meeting invite.

Compared to Slack - the teams channels are more rudimentary. Less customizability, less chat history, slower response time.

Teams is generally better and has a more professional "feel" than Skype, Google Meet, or Zoom.
With Teams, access control is less easily managed than with Skype, Google Meet, or Zoom.
Teams has better internal security than Zoom. I have never been "bombed" on Teams, whereas this has happened quite a bit with Zoom.

I do not use Microsoft Teams if I can avoid it, because I can get the same type of work done in Slack, which has a much more intuitive user interface and is more modern in terms of functionality. I also use Skype for Business more regularly because it uses fewer computer resources than Teams, so it doesn't slow down my system as much.

[I believe] Microsoft [T]eams is better than both of these apps for a business like ours. [I]ts quick chat and perfect notification system helps us to chat fluid without any problems. It performs better than the chat systems on Zoom, and therefore this is the reason we stayed with Microsoft Teams.
