What is Microsoft Teams?

Microsoft Teams combines video conferencing software with team collaboration tools. The communications platform allows MS Office users to conduct conference calls and share files via SharePoint, and join or initiate a group chat.

Microsoft Teams features three tiers of pricing. The first is a subscription-less, free option that offers the same features as the other two tiers but does not offer administration tools like analytics and access to on-premise servers, or support features like 24/7 phone and web support. The second and third tiers are based on the size of your business and its conferencing needs. Its “Office 365 Business Premium” option starts at $12.50 a month per user, with a required annual commitment, and its “Office 365 E3” option for enterprises starts at $20 a month per user, also with a required annual commitment.

Key Features
Meetings: Meet with teams of 10 or 10,000. Host audio, video, and web conferences with anyone inside or outside your organization or go big with live events.

Calling: Its Phone System feature enables PBX capabilities including call control in Office 365 and replaces on-premises PBX. Its calling features are customizable to fit your organization’s unique needs.

Surely Microsoft Teams is a better option for organisations than the mentioned application. It has clearly taken over the lead within enterprises and government organizations, used by 65% of surveyed respondents. It offers more robust features which other apps don’t provide. It solves a lot of organisational issues which other apps don’t do.

Although competitors such as Slack and Webex can really stand up to MS Teams, our organization chose Teams as the predominant work communicator. Working within this decision, we are overall happy with the feature set that Teams provides. In my opinion, the advantages of its competitors over Teams are as follows: Webex offers a slightly better call experience. Slack offers a better and much more well-known text communication. Mobile IMs like Viber, Telegram, and Whatsapp work with your mobile number, so they are more resilient to Microsoft Cloud issues or anything happening with your company account.

I always found Microsoft Teams more productivity-oriented than others. Google Meet gave me a lot of trouble if I use multiple audio sources. Switching audio is a nightmare in Meet. Telegram also rolled out screen sharing, which is good for a casual meeting, but still lacks a lot of features

Microsoft Teams is faster and very responsive when compared with those tools. Also it is robust and does not crash. It is compatible with most of the OS and platforms. Backward compatibility is amazing. It is an enterprise tool. So can be efficiently used for both client meetings and internal communication. Also have additional collaboration abilities to integrate data from external applications like Jira, confluence, Salesforce using Microsoft power virtual agents

As mentioned, Microsoft Teams [has] been our way of communication since the start of the pandemic. We've been using this and so far it never fails us and even exceeds our expectations. The scheduling and meeting notification is very helpful [for] reminders, especially for days [when] we are very busy. This is an awesome app, I'd say!

I enjoy Teams better than Lync/Skype for Business, but I enjoy Slack the most for inter-company communication and UI/UX convenience. The learning curve for Slack is very small and it has a casual atmosphere that would engage the employees in a more fun and welcoming manner than a stark and professional background of Teams.

I prefer Teams over Slack, mostly because of the application integration through Microsoft 365. Having the ability to use applications like Sharepoint, One Drive, Email, and OneNote from within Teams makes its usability better than Slack.

From the start day of my professional career, I am using Microsoft teams. In my previous company and in the current company. I think most of the companies use the Microsoft Teams app only. Not only for communication for all features. It's very useful. I can recommend this app to all. Thanks, Microsoft Teams.

  • Slack
Microsoft Teams is bundled into our existing Office 365 product suite, so there is no additional cost to leverage Microsoft Teams. This helps our organization avoid increased expense in subscribing to Slack or an alternative internal chat tool. Many members of our team (myself included) have used Slack before. We prefer the functionality, user interface, and product features of Microsoft Teams over Slack. So from a cost and overall value standpoint, we feel Microsoft Teams is superior to the competition.

  • Skype for Business (formerly Lync) and now part of Microsoft Teams
Compared to Skype, Microsoft Teams have more features for communications and collaboration, such as the channels, and manage file sharing better than Skype, Teams feels like it's designed with the large organization's needs in mind, like hosting a video conference with hundreds of peoples at the same time, it also has much better video conference quality than Skype.

Microsoft Teams are very straightforward, user-friendly and so easy to use. What's good about using this is that we don't need to have any training, just have an account and everyone can easily navigate and explore the features. It's very secure which helps us to share important files with each other. Calling and chatting have never been easy.

  • Skype for Business (formerly Lync) and now part of Microsoft Teams
The whole MS Teams platform is better suited for collaboration and communication across all teams, an effective tool that increases productivity. The solution is not limited by hardware and software. Skype works well for 1-to-1 conversations with colleagues and calls but cannot be compared to a centralised platform like MS Teams. They are not competing in the same league!

Microsoft Teams edges above the conferencing competition by allowing file collaboration and ongoing group chats with coworkers. We selected Microsoft Teams for all our video & audio conference calls for it's ability to integrate with our Outlook client and make it easy for employees to always have it running in the background. Scheduling meetings directly in the Outlook application saves time compared to using a non Microsoft alternative and copying/pasting the meeting link into a calendar invite.

we actually use both Webex and Microsoft teams. Internally, we mostly work with Webex, but we have multiple clients with which we need to exchange on a project basis, and they use Teams . Therefore we leverage our business licensing with Microsoft and enabled Teams for our users. It works pretty well for Video meetings as well as Grop Chats and file sharing. Where it may fall a bit short versus Webex, is on the features and innovation.

Skype was fine and had a lot of functionality of Teams. The thing that really converted me to [Microsoft Teams] was the ability to make sub-teams. There are a few groups I'm on at work and each group has its own subfolder within Teams. Within each group are shared files that are accessible and can be edited by any group member.

We were already in the process of migrating our email and office applications from on premise to Office 365. Because of the inclusion of Teams it made more sense to use it rather than to invest in another 3rd party collaboration tool. We also had a small footprint for telepresence with Cisco so we decided not to expand it.

  • Skype for Business (formerly Lync) and now part of Microsoft Teams
Well, Skype for Business is basically an older version of Microsoft Teams. With that being said, I used to be upset at the transition from Skype for Business to Microsoft Teams because of learning a new product. Now that I've been using Microsoft Teams for 2 years, I don't know how I would have lived without it in hindsight. I would say Teams just does such an excellent job in terms of additional functionality and features compared to Skype for Business. The difference/contest is a no-brainer in this instance between Skype for Business & Microsoft Teams.

Teams definitely has the upper hand over zoom and GoToMeeting. The fact that it is bundled with M365 is a huge plus not only from a cost perspective but it gives you deep integration with the other office products. This allows seamless file sharing with sharepoint and OneDrive, built in document editing and much more.

It think its great for more informal and ad-hoc communications. It has also helped alot with the Covid-19 working from home situation. When in the office you could walk to your teammate and have a chat instead of a scheduled webex call. Teams messenger has brought this walkup conversation that does not need a meeting feeling back.

  • Zoom
Microsoft teams provide better customer support and seamless screen sharing. It provides good audio and video quality even in low networks. Even it can be integrated with other Microsoft software like outlook and office, which made our life easy. Its UI is very simple and can be used by new users without any special training.
