What is Microsoft Teams?

Microsoft Teams combines video conferencing software with team collaboration tools. The communications platform allows MS Office users to conduct conference calls and share files via SharePoint, and join or initiate a group chat.

Microsoft Teams features three tiers of pricing. The first is a subscription-less, free option that offers the same features as the other two tiers but does not offer administration tools like analytics and access to on-premise servers, or support features like 24/7 phone and web support. The second and third tiers are based on the size of your business and its conferencing needs. Its “Office 365 Business Premium” option starts at $12.50 a month per user, with a required annual commitment, and its “Office 365 E3” option for enterprises starts at $20 a month per user, also with a required annual commitment.

Key Features
Meetings: Meet with teams of 10 or 10,000. Host audio, video, and web conferences with anyone inside or outside your organization or go big with live events.

Calling: Its Phone System feature enables PBX capabilities including call control in Office 365 and replaces on-premises PBX. Its calling features are customizable to fit your organization’s unique needs.

  • It lets you know if someone is free, busy or away from their desk
  • Does a great job at establishing a means of communication with coworker
  • Can also attach files to a chat.
  • I wish it [could be] integrated with Outlook. Instead of having to open two separate programs
  • Wish there was a popup for a missed call. Instead of just an icon on the activity tab
  • Wish it was easier to add a third participant to an existing call.

  • Allow posting of memes in chat.

  • A chat search feature.
  • The audit function could use a bit more more work to save entire conversations.

  • It is a great software for holding a large meeting in a small space.
  • It [has a] screen share option, which helps clear [any] doubts with your counterpart fast.
  • It is effortless, and no special training is required.
  • It has the drawback that it sometimes uses a considerable amount of computer resources.
  • Sometimes memory usage goes high while using, which does not occur with other video conference platforms.

  • Chat and group chats are so smooth and easy to use. you can also share files, links, gifs and stickers in the conversation.
  • Channels help split the work into multiple sections which will allow members to chat in the correct section about specific topics. You can also share folders in each of the channels.
  • There are a lot of connections you can add to Teams or to specific teams you create that help increase productivity.
  • I don't find the user interface very friendly. Text/font isn't great and colors are just not the best.
  • So hard to navigate between channels sometimes and if you leave a channel it doesn't and come back to it, it doesn't land at the same place you were at.

  • Remote control features are inefficient.

  • Integration with Office applications (Word, Excel)
  • Integrated meetings
  • Centralising per project
  • It remains a confusing mixture of apps
  • Each individual component has better industry replacements (apart from Excel probably)
  • It is heavy on CPU, certainly on macOS, but also on Windows.

  • Record the meeting for future reference
  • You can create different group and channel as per your project
  • You can view others calendar to schedule the meeting for an individual or a group
  • Some features while uploading the documents are a bit different in the mobile version compared to the windows version.
  • It would be better if we could download the recording for offline use.
  • You should be able to tag the message while replying to a particular message.
  • Access rights should be restricted for downloading the documents when sent in a group chat or channel.

  • File sharing and edit option among team members
  • It's a high bandwidth software for audio and video, so need to have lite version
  • Survey option during for questions should have more customization
  • Meeting invite sharing option should have more option thru whatsapp etc.

  • Scheduling - it's easy to integrate your meetings in Outlook
  • Invitations - Since everyone in our organization is on Outlook, it's really easy to invite someone to a meeting and make sure it appears on their calendar
  • Chat room / file sharing - it's easy to add files and links to the chatroom
  • The Chat Room - sometimes it's hard to find. The room sometimes seems disconnected from the meeting you are in. I like that it archives them, but it can be hard to find things in an archived chat room.
  • Cameras / Microphones - I wish it was more flexible in the kinds of cameras you can use. I'd love it you could include multiple cameras or to include video overlays more easily.
  • Scheduling outside your organization - Yes, I know you can just email someone to add them, but it doesn't work with Outlook and sometimes, the meeting doesn't get added to their calendar.

  • The integration with O365 and other office tools is a plus
  • There is seamless integration with other Microsoft products
  • The app does not work well with apple products at all.
  • The desktop application does not compete with other remote working platforms.
  • The screen-share is the most inconvenient. While presenting you cannot share a single tab/window, you are forced to share your entire screen. There is a privacy concern.
  • While presenting on behalf of a colleague, you will have to stop the presentation, mute/unmute then return to the presentation which is disruptive and unprofessional especially when recording.
  • The members of the organisation assume guests have the capabilities they have, which guests do not. Microsoft Teams does not work as a social media platform and the guest feature should be abandoned entirely because it is most frustrating for guests.
  • Guests invited to Microsoft Teams meetings cannot view multiple video cams while using a browser with a VPN service.
  • The activity/meeting feedback window in the app itself is chaotic and can be better organised. I recommend data logs that can be pulled when needed.

  • Firstly, it enables us to form team groups within the platform which ultimately helps in team chats and file sharing within the teams and also lets the file to update in real time by all the team members within the group.
  • Secondly, Teams is the only platform where we have different applications embedded and we can use those to prepare different types of files within the teams and thus we don't have to scroll outside teams for the same. For example, onenote, Jiracloud, planner, stream, wiki are different platform embedded within Teams to help us use them and complete our tasks
  • Thirdly, Teams is directly connected to sharepoint which i think is the most useful feature of the same. We can upload all the files on to share point so that anyone who we want to send the file can access the same via share file.
  • The most important point to work upon is the Graphical user interface (GUI), Teams GUI is not very easy to use and thus it takes a lot of time for a new user to understand its feature and to further use them. Therefore, work could be done to improve its GUI so that it becomes user friendly.
  • I noticed that whenever I log in daily and directly go to Teams, it takes a quite a lot of time to connect to its server and to come online as compared to other products like zoom which are blazingly fast . Thus the time taken by Teams to connect to its server for the first time could be improved.
  • Teams is a really heavy software considering the vast features it offers and the embedded additional platform like Jiracloud, onenote etc embedded into it which in turn makes the software really slow at times. therefore, efforts could be made to improve its processing power.
