What is Mimecast Cloud Archive?

Mimecast Cloud Archive solution keeps multiple copies of every inbound, outbound and internal email, along with detailed meta-data and a copy of the email if it was changed by policy enforcement. Emails are encrypted for security and stored in multiple geographically-dispersed data centers with triplicate copies for redundancy.

Additionally, Mimecast Cloud Archive provides:

  • Search and retrieval of archived emails.
  • Access to personal cloud archive storage on any device, from any location.
  • Pricing based on the number of employees rather than the volume of email.
  • Policy-driven retention at the organization, group, mailbox or published retention folder level.
  • Archive access logging.
  • Compliance, e-discovery and litigation support, including legal hold, case management and data export.

For organizations in need of a migration tool to take advantage of the archive, Mimecast Simply Migrate is available. It extracts, validates, and transports legacy data from common archives like Veritas Enterprise Vault and Dell EMC SourceOne to the Mimecast Cloud Archive.

In today’s world of remote employees and the rise of collaboration technologies, Mimecast Cloud Archive now supports Archiving for Microsoft Teams. Ensure compliance, reduce risk, and establish policies to retain and expire Microsoft Teams data, including one to one, group, and channel. conversations.

Additionally, Mimecast Supervision, when integrated with Mimecast Cloud Archive, can help financial services firms meet FINRA, SEC, FCA and other compliance challenges, helping users to operationalize compliance across the organization, and enabling compliance personnel to systematically review and discover targeted data.

Mimecast's Sync & Recover is a fully integrated extension to the Mimecast Cloud Archive, that removes the need for standalone email backup and recovery tools and is 100% cloud-based. Sync & Recover delivers granular recovery of mailboxes, calendar items, tasks, notes, and contacts lost through inadvertent or malicious deletion or corruption.

We use Mimecast to archive emails and protect our enterprise from potentially unsafe or spam emails. We use it for the whole company to protect our valuable data. It addresses keeping our network and its data safe and helping to ensure communications are secure.
  • Ability to control email traffic
  • Ability to archive emails
  • Frees up space on your network
  • Sometimes unnecessary emails are blocked.
  • Can be difficult to monitor marketing emails due to blocked emails.
  • Can be hard to search for specific archived emails.
Mimecast is great for freeing up space on your network, especially in a company with a lot of employees and data being sent over email. It can be improved in that it often blocks emails that don't need to be blocked (including emails a marketing department is sending). It does a great job blocking senders and spam.

We use Mimecast Enterprise Information Archiving company wide. It was an asset during our migration to Office 365 where we were able to easily recover all our old emails from the Mimecast Portal quickly and seamlessly. Mimecast's archive is designed in such a way that you can recover important emails only in case you don't find the emails on Exchange after the migration.
  • Quick email search capabilities.
  • Ability to view an old email within the archive without having to download it.
  • Great E-discovery capabilities as users do not have the ability to delete emails perpetually
  • Easy to use and manage
  • On the archive, all emails are highlighted hence you will not know when you have an unread email that you might have accidentally deleted on outlook but was automatically archived in Mimecast
Given that Mimecast offers a bottomless archive, their archiving solution is best suited for organizations struggling with storage space for their ever growing mailbox. With the new sync and recover capabilities, you can use Mimecast's EIA as a DR for your mail service in case you loose data on the mail server and you want to recover it quickly to any point in time. Another great scenario is when moving to a cloud service such as Office 365. There is always fear of loosing data during this migration hence having Mimecast EIA would offer your company peace of mind that your data is safe.

We use Mimecase Cloud Archive to sift through, screen and manage emails, files and other content via our SSO process. This helps us secure our infosec and 3rd party platform exposure and vulnerabilities centrally. As the head of Procurement, I work closely with our tech team to get the right support tech stack in place, in the case of Mimecast Cloud Archive-it facilitates how I personally view the aggregated data across multiple platforms which I then use to inform Procurement decisions. Essentially as a BI tool for the tech data stack.
  • Archive and Data protection
  • Cloud Archiving
  • Data aggregation across platforms
  • synergy of archived materiel
  • Simplified data recovery
  • eliminate set-up fee
  • Not as intuitive an interface sometimes
  • data transfer can be cumbersome sometimes
  • UX can be improved
Best if just implementing a new platform, or as part of a system overhaul where the work load is a sunk cost and resources are in place to help alignment etc.

The Mimecast Cloud Archive is an excellent solution that is utilized for a variety of backup purposes, the most common of which are for cloud instances, databases, and documents. It is most effective for protecting assets and providing catastrophe recovery. This is a relatively new product that has quickly become quite popular due to the extensive coverage it provides at an affordable price. Additionally, the extensive documentation that it provides makes it simple to put into practice.
  • Improved ease of data recovery.
  • Data storage and recovery in a secure digital vault.
  • Instantaneous access from anywhere.
  • Keeping backups of G Suite products.
  • There is room for improvement in terms of storage performance.
  • The user experience and user interface (UX/UI) must be improved.
When used in these solutions, the backup of databases also works really effectively. Syncing and recovering data from cold storage is a very simple process. Compliance and oversight are two features that are quite beneficial when using controlled access. The recovery of documents and their expiration dates are also effectively controlled.

Mimecast cloud archive is a great product used mainly to backup your cloud instances, databases, and documents. It works best for assets and disaster recovery. It's a rather newer product which has gained a lot of popularity because of its coverage and cost. Also, it is easy to implement thanks to its robust documentation.
  • Simplified data recovery
  • Secured digital data memory vaulting and recovery
  • Anytime, anywhere access
  • Archiving G Suite products
  • The storage is a bit slower, it can be improved
  • UX/UI needs improvement
Mimecast Cloud Archive is well suited to archive emails, files, messages, and other content. In instances, it works really well to backup databases as well. One can easily sync and recover files from cold storage. With managed access it's really nice to have compliance and supervision. Also, document retrieval and expiration are well managed.

I currently use Mimecast Cloud Archive within my organization to manage spam email filtering. It allows me to have more control of my inbox. All of my emails flow through that prior to hitting my inbox in outlook.
  • Archiving
  • Spam filtering
  • The spam filtering sometimes holds up important emails from domains that should be whitelisted.
  • When first starting to use the platform it was confusing between perm and delete and the different options available
Mimecast Cloud Archive works really well for blocking out spam especially from solicitors trying to market to me and my organization. It does let things slip through and also holds up important emails from time to time. I don’t use it as much as I could for the archiving piece although their website interface is very easy to use.

Currently, Mimecast Cloud Archive is one of the main components of the core operation as a cloud service that integrates with our on-premise exchange server. All mail is sent through Mimecast's servers as a gateway where a copy is kept on their servers for individual mailboxes, where it can then be accessed remotely to access older and recent emails and as a remote option to use the web and mobile client in a disaster scenario.
  • Archive and enforce mail retention policies on on-premise exchange server
  • Integration with existing email system
  • Good web interface and mobile client to access and execute email functions
  • The policies to implement archiving integration are not very intuitive. It could possibly be improved in its implementation but it does work reliably.
  • The web interface for mail is a little more on the basic side, could possibly look to add more features over time to improve the user experience.
  • The process to get existing data into the archived mailboxes from another system is very time consuming and painful. Not sure if an easier way could be developed for this process as it was the way it was to eliminate errors and duplication.
  • Took a long time to migrate old archived data to this system, which could be a hindrance for people moving away from an existing platform.
Mimecast Cloud Archive can be used as a key component of disaster recovery or a remote work plan. It cuts down on the need to spend more money on servers and storage to store old data. It can set automatic data retention policies to match the needs of an organization where required for compliance purposes or otherwise.

We needed to replace our previous on-prem e-mail archiving solution (Barracuda) with a could-based solution and do it in conjunction with our move to Exchange Online. After speaking and demoing all of the current best players in this space we decided to go with Mimecast as it just odes what is meant to do with no fuss and it works. The migration was seamless and the users took to it in no time.
We use it across the whole Company and users rely on it as it allows them to keep records of all e-mails and also helps us when we need to retrieve messages from employees no longer at the company.
  • Unlimited archive capability.
  • Easy to search.
  • Easy to manage and deploy/migrate to.
  • The search interface (in the Admin panel) could be improved and made more intuitive.
  • The search period in the Outlook Plugin can't be changed from the default of 1 year, this needs to be customizable.
  • Add the ability to send messages from the web Interface.
After looking at all the alternatives Mimecast is the best cloud e-mail archive in the market as it does all the things you would expect form an e-mail archive solution with no fuss. Add to this a simple interface and a simpler end-user UI and it makes for a very attractive product that your users will take to in no time.

Mimecast Enterprise Information Archiving is being used across our entire firm to archive all incoming, outgoing and internal email for 10 years. It permits us to limit the number of emails stored in our Outlook system while permitting full and comprehensive searching of emails both for existing users and users no longer in the current Exchange/Outlook environment. There are also tools for eDiscovery, legal holds, and other features.
  • Allows comprehensive searching by sender, receiver, date, metadata and search terms.
  • Can export and deliver identified email from searches in a number of ways.
  • Is extremely reliable. Catches all email and stores it for as long as the customer desires.
  • Can save searches so that they can easily be recalled later.
  • Keeps a comprehensive usage log to identify all actions taken with it.
  • Has a good Outlook integration feature.
  • Can act as a backup to regular email, should it fail.
  • The system runs slowly at times.
  • There are so many features, it can be difficult to find exactly how to perform some actions.
  • Emails are not automatically shown in their native format when searched you must click on the email and then request it be formatted in the proper format (HTML, plaintext, etc.).
If you want to keep your production email system from getting bloated with old, out of date emails and want the archived emails to be easily searchable, Mimecast Archiving is an ideal tool. It is also completely cloud-based, so requires no additional infrastructure to implement it. If you are paranoid about storing your email in the cloud (albeit in a totally secure environment), then Mimecast is not for you.

Mimecast is used by the entire company and is our email gateway. We appreciate all the many features of Mimecast and the problems it solves. From security, to message archiving, search features, and support Mimecast does everything well. We started with message archive and secure messaging but have added other features, mostly related to security, since our initial subscription.
  • Message archiving is essential in healthcare and Mimecast makes it easy and at a reasonable cost. One of the features we appreciate most is the search function. Outlook can be pretty frustrating when it comes to searching for messages and Mimecast adds plenty of filtering and search capabilities that help find what Outlook can't.
  • Targeted Threat Protection (TTP) is a great service that proxies URL's in email and adds an extra layer of protection against malicious attachments. The addition of TTP a couple years ago demonstrates Mimecast's continued development to meet modern threats.
  • Online mailbox can be used for email continuity if your mail server is down. We don't have frequent downtime but it's good to know communications can keep flowing if we do.
  • Support is always helpful and timely.
  • I have few comments recommending improvement but if I have to nitpick I'd say the admin console can be a bit confusing. I don't think it's so much their product, rather email is more complicated than most realize.
  • My biggest gripe, and it's minor, is that we still can't get events logged in our time zone. I've been told that's coming but still haven't seen it. I'm pretty capable of subtracting 1 hour though so I'm not too worked up about it.
Given all the threats that are out there and the fact many come in via email, I think Mimecast is a great solution for any business of any size. If your business is heavily regulated then you have even more reason to use Mimecast. You might be able to do a lot of these things yourself but why would you? Mimecast employees are experts, the best in the industry, at knowing how email works and how to protect it.

Mimecast has become an integral part of our organization. It solves 4 separate business problems and it does it very well. Our company is using it for all 4 of these situations:
1-It archives all of our email both incoming and outgoing.
2-It sterilizes our email for spam, viruses and other malicious content.
3-It allows our Outlook users, who have the Mimecast add-in installed, the ability to send and receive large file attachments.
4-It acts as a DR recovery for our mail solution. We host our on exchange server but if it goes down the users can login into Mimecast to continue sending and receiving email. We just used this feature when our power was out for 4 days after Hurricane Irma.
  • It archives every email into and out of your enterprise including mail between internal users. This provides a legally acceptable archive that we can access at any point to find emails whether we need just one from a year ago or a lot to enter into a court case.
  • Since we have our MX record pointing to them first, they host all of our email in the cloud so users can access it even in the event our local email repository is down. We used this feature quite well during this past years Hurricane season.
  • Mimecast has a feature that allows me to sandbox all links, in emails, before users are redirected to them. This has saved us several times in that users clicked on links they should not have but Mimecast intercepted the request and stopped the user from going to the site.
  • Although many people seem to love it, I think their search capability takes some getting used to. It works and you can find anything you need but it is not as clean as if searching in Outlook.
  • When an incoming domain is on the Mimecast's blacklist the email is totally blocked and there is no notification of this so if a user tells me they are not getting email from somewhere I sometimes have to assume this is the issue and go the extra step and add that domain to a white list not knowing if it will really solve the issue.
  • The Large File send options in outlook work fairly well but if one is sending a dozen files the receiver SHOULD get an option to download them all into one size but they do not. Instead they have to download each file individually.
  • Some of their new client releases can cause issues so you must test the clients well and usually stick with a good one when you get one that works well in your environment.
It is an enterprise product as such it is quite expensive and most suited for companies with at least 75 users and up. It would be great if you are hosting your own email environment but from what I understand the set is a bit hard if you try to use this with Office 365 or a hosted exchange situation. If you are in the business of needing email archives for a lot of legal situations, Mimecast can be your savior over and over again.
