We are an Indian Tribe operating on government funding. The program is used by the accountant on a daily basis and myself for monthly, quarterly and annual reporting. MIP is used for our government funding as well as the the tribal generated funds. MIP is the only way to go when multi funding agencies. The ability to separate multi agency and fiscal years is a must, MIP makes this very easy, therefore making daily operations and reporting a snap.
  • Coding to separate funds, is a very strong aspect. It is used in program funding and very helpful in payroll when an employee is paid from more than one program.
  • Being able to filter down to exactly what is needed for program directors and auditors.
  • Providing accurate budget expenditure reports for program directors and board members is a major plus.
  • I have no suggestions, I'm happy with what it provides at this time.

The finance department uses MIP to for all aspects of the museum's accounting. We record expenses, liabilities and revenue through the software, produce financial statements, and process payables. Journal entries are also done through MIP. Budgets are managed by running expense reports for jobs and departments, and cash flow is managed by running aging reports for payables.
  • MIP does a great job of tracking expenses for job numbers and departments.
  • Reports are highly customizable and flexible to meet information needs
  • The software is user friendly and easy to learn
  • It should be easier to edit past accounting entries
  • A warning pop up window before posting transaction sessions would be helpful
  • Simplify addition of accounts to chart of accounts
It is well suited for recording expenses and less appropriate for revenues.

We use MIP Fund Accounting for keeping track of revenues and expenses for our grants, some end at 12/31 each year and some end at June 30. We use to it to keep up with donations and other funding not related to grants. We also use it for payroll and all payroll related reports.
  • We use revenue and expense reports to keep track of grants, different grants have different year end dates and the reports help to keep up. Some of our grants just ended on June 30, others will end December 31. We have another that ends in October, so it would be hard to keep up without a good program.
  • The payroll system also helps keep track of which employees are funded to the different grants.
  • I would like to use budget and forecasting, but we have not really had time to learn that part of MIP.
Keeping track of the different funds and the services is helpful. We report our information to the Department of Elder Affairs and it would be great if we could set up MIP to match their reporting format. We have to take our information and input it into the DOEA reports and it can be time consuming.

We use MIP for Purchase Orders, Check Writing, Journal Entries, Cash Receipts, Invoices for various things. We use MIP by department. Some of our departments have the ability to look at reports, but Accounting uses it in full capacity. We soon hope to have our HR Dept using this for new employee hires.
  • various reports easily accessable
  • purchase order easily processed
  • being able to create reports to fit our needs
  • The 1099 process seems like it takes too long, its hard to go back to a certain step, and usually have to start all over with the process
I use this for all aspects of my job and it's always easy to use.

MIP is used by the finance and accounting department. It is robust for our use, but I wish it integrated more smoothly with the modules that other departments use. Exports/Imports are a little clunky.
  • This is a great platform for Accounts Payable. We are happy with our ability to research and track individual payments (checks and also EFT payments).
  • The GL transaction process is pretty strong and easy to use.
  • The investment of time put into creating reports is very rewarding because it's possible to build exactly the reports you want.
  • I wish that the bank reconciliation module were more integrated with the rest of the software, and that it would electronically integrate with online bank information available.
  • Report formatting can be very tricky to set up so that the reports are easy to read and use.
For the nonprofit with a complex chart of accounts, MIP is a great choice. Smaller non-profits would probably be better off with something simpler. Without proper training, this product can be overly complex for simple transactions and reporting.

MIP Fund Accounting is use by our Accounting Department for the past 15 years. It very reliable and easy to deal with.
  • One of the main aspects MIP Fund Accounting does well for an organization that has so many funds, grants and donations, is to help us to keep track of each individual by different options, program, fund - funder or even by user defined field
  • You can have different budgets and keep track of each one separate. It is user friendly
  • It is easy to create different types of Financial reports
  • It will be great if any void transaction will void the check at the same time.
  • It will be nice to make it easy to import transactions from excel to MIP

We use MIP as our main accounting software, for budgeting purposes, for financial statement preparation, for record keeping, and for payments to vendors.
  • Ease of setting up different types of financial reports and accessing them.
  • Easy to access records and transactions done in the system.
  • Easy to export to Excel for spreadsheet purposes, if needed.
  • Can use e-mail to send information within the system.
  • Help and support system is excellent.
We find it well suited to our accounting needs as a non-profit organization. The executive view function, the budgeting function, the ability to scan records into the A/P function are great just to name a couple.

We use MIP for our Accounting and Finance Department to prepare Financial Statements, pay vendors, A/R etc. We have 3 entities using MIP with different EIN's and Charts of Accounts. We prepare Financial Statements using Actual vs Budget. We also use Accounts Payable module to pay vendors and produce 1099 at the end of the year.
  • Financial Statements
  • A/P
  • Reports
  • Reporting
  • Excel
  • Inter-Agency Transactions
It is well suited for Financial Statements preparation, Budgeting, Accounts Payable and Reporting, especially reporting since it is crucial for the company to have ability to produce Financial Statements on different levels (departmental, across entities). We use reporting for multiple entities, combined reports, segment reports that MIP is doing great job producing.

MIP is the primary software for financial reporting in our organization.
  • Allocation management
  • Flexibility in reporting and customization
  • Ability to drill into reports on the fly and download into Excel
  • Ability to have more than 1 session if MIP open at one time to make comparative analysis easier
  • The ability to run financial statement with unposted transactions
  • Depreciation entries can't be reversed.
  • Fixed asset reports cant be run for a specific period. i.e. you have to run a fixed asset register with accumulated depr. at year end of before depr. is calculated for the first month of the next fiscal year or the amount of depr. that shows on the report will include the depr for the first month of the next fiscal year. Another way of saying this is that you can't run a fixed asset register for a specific period time frame and get the correct amount of accumulated depr.
  • The acct receivable module is too robust. It would be nice if some of it's functionality could be customized for users that don't need all of the functions provided.
Ablia MIP is well suited for financial reporting. It has limited capabilities in uploading from an Excel file. A .def file is required and it would be easier if MIP had a wizard function to help create the .def file.

MIP is used by the accounting and finance department as the main accounting software. We process all transactions via MIP and import [them]. We also import accounting information from three other software/business applications.

MIP has many benefits and features in the software itself that I love very much from check writing, to running reports, to managing users and back-ups. But the main problem that it addresses is it being able to connect/provide information from the other three softwares very conveniently and with easy steps.
  • VERY user friendly and easy to navigate inside system and easy to export into Excel or pdf formats.
  • Has a variety of shorts-cuts including copying documents, reversals, copying lines, even importing journals from Excel. It makes the data entry process a lot more easier and faster.
  • REPORTING!!! It has many many ways of reporting on almost everything and anything an accountant would need! I just love this feature!!
  • The Requisition model is an area that needed improvement. But they have since solved that problem with involving a third party requisition and inventory system.
  • For the payroll module, leave and employee information is kept but not to a great extent, but they again have addressed this via the HR module.
  • Other than those problems that they have already realized and responded to, I'm impressed with MIP's capabilities and they keep improving. I'm happy with the way it is.
We are utility company and MIP caters to our reporting and accounting needs. It still has room for improving report writing. MIP is suited for companies like ours with a small to medium volume of transactions.

MIP Fund Accounting is used by the accounting department. The biggest problem it is addresses is the ability to keep the expenses and revenue for the funds separate.
  • Keeps a separate accounting for each fund.
  • Allows for imports of CSV files and exports of Excel and PDF files.
  • You have the ability to create the reports that work for you and do not just have to use canned reports.
  • Integrated accounting system with payroll system.
  • Have had some issues when they implement updates. Former reports no longer totaling correctly, etc. If there aren't enough users out there that use that report, they don't put time into getting it fixed.
  • There is no ability to change the character limits of your codes or ids once your company is set up unless you want to re-do the whole system and then pay to have someone working with MIP to transfer everything, which is quite expensive.
  • There used to be a local users group supported by the prior owner of this product. It was very helpful and I think they should invest time in continuing something like that as there are many people I talk with that don't feel the knowledge base is useful.
Overall this is a great product for a larger organization. It has the ability to separately account for each funding source so there isn't a lot of extra work needed to be done in a spreadsheet to complement the MIP reports. It is fairly simple to use and if you do your payroll in house, then the integration of payroll to accounting is great.

MIP is used only by Finance department staff for disbursements processing (AP) and general ledger (some but not all Financial Reporting). It is not user friendly to be used by non finance staff. It has very limited and limiting business process workflows. Budgeting is only a reporting function. It is one of the reasons finance staff spends over 80% of time on transactional activities rather than analytical and added value activities.
  • MIP database structure uses independent segments (compared to Financial Edge's account strings)
  • Approval workflow should be automated
  • Session manager should allow for more than one approver
  • Importing should be simple and easy not requiring DEF file
  • Cash account data for reconciliation should be organized based on effective date not document date
  • Drill down and drill back (e.g. GL to AP to GL) for quicker analysis
[MIP is well suited for] Small businesses with very few and simple transactions.

MIP Fund Accounting is used for our general ledger, financial statements, and financial reporting.
  • Very stable software, have had no problems with software operation
  • It is easy to use and learn
  • Would like to see reporting options, lacks the ability to significantly modify reports
  • Importing data should be easier, exporting to Excel is built in but importing is more difficult
  • Should come with tutorials for first time users
To me MIP Fund Accounting seems well suited for a mid size company. It can handle multiple funding sources, sites, etc. well. I would suggest looking at reporting format flexibility.

Our organization uses MIP Fund Accounting across our whole organization. All accounting transactions are tracked through the software: accounts payable, cash receipts, accruals. This information is used to then create our financial statements, which are then reviewed by our finance committee and submitted to the board of directors on a monthly basis for approval. We also utilize FR50 to track our donations and then import the transactions into Fund Accounting.
  • The MIP chat is the best. Any time I have started a conversation I am also able to get an answer that way. It is a much easier solution than sitting on the phone.
  • The screens and functionalities of the different screens are very similar, so it makes it easier to use the system. For instance, the screen and inputs necessary to record a journal voucher are the same as an accounts payable.
  • Drilling down into reports is not user friendly. If you open a report, you should be able to click on the transactions and then that transactions opens.
  • There are so many variations that you can make to a report, that is actually just makes it more difficult to understand how to get the information you are looking for.
  • When inputting Accounts Payable, it would be nice to be able to enter multiple explanations for items on one bill. For instance, when we receive a master card bill, there are multiple charges. Yes you can break out each expense, but it all falls under the same description.
  • Detailed trainings should be available on-line to those who already pay the annual support fee. The only free trainings offered are promotional and barely provide information. The trainings are far away and very expensive, especially for a small non-profit.
It provides all the functionalities that are necessary, which is great to be able to track all items in one place. It suits all of our accounting needs and the support is very good. However, it can be complicated to find the information you are looking for because there are so many options. Since there are very few trainings offered it makes it less user friendly. Additionally, drilling down into reports is non-existent.

MIP Fund Accounting is used by a department within our organization, specifically the Finance/Business department. It is primarily used as our main accounting package, to track project statuses and cash flows, along with tracking budget vs. actual progress over the lifetime of the projects, both in domestic and international currencies.
  • MIP Fund Accounting is a great package, especially in the detailed classification and separation with the charts of accounts feature.
  • MIP Fund Accounting is very strong in capturing larges amounts of data, and possessing the ability to filter that data to arrive at meaningful results.
  • MIP Fund Accounting allows the user to customize and organize reports, appearance, and performance.
  • One area that has room for improvement is the limited capability of producing reports in multiple currencies, and being able to receive relevant data from those reports.
  • Occasionally the import process can be cumbersome, in that it bogs down considerably when doing large data loads into the system.
  • Being able to add more definition within the accounts payable functionality, specifically to accounts and routes, would be a great improvement.
MIP Fund Accounting is tailored to nonprofit organization management, unlike most accounting packages or software products which are geared for the for-profit world. Having an accounting package specific to non-profit accounting makes our work much easier and more streamlined, and allows us to report well to our investors.

MIP Fund Accounting is used by the Finance Department to manage the accounting and financial reporting for the entire organization. It addresses the business problems of financial reporting, organization of financial data by grant and grant spending. The budget module allows for multiple versions, which helps with forecasting and what if scenarios. The system comes with predefined reporting templates for the Statement of Activities, Balance Sheet, Statement of Revenues and Expenses.
  • The system is fairly intuitive. New users come up to speed quickly. The user guides and on line help are good.
  • The various modules interface well. I use AP and AR.
  • The reporting is easy to use and covers the basics very well. The reports can be downloaded in multiple formats (Excel, pdf, csv, etc.) and can also be emailed directly. Makes report distribution very easy.
  • The budget module should allow for a full replace instead of uploading the change when importing data from Excel.
  • The GL should have a provision for recording non financial data, like FTEs, conference attendees, square footage, etc. This would allow statistical reports and greater analytics straight from the GL.
  • Greater functionality for calculating overhead allocations and calculating the release of temp restricted to unrestricted.
MIP is well suited for small to mid size non profit organizations that do not have a high need for complex analytics. The modules work well and are easy to use. There is enough flexibility to meet most reporting needs, without having to create a side system of spreadsheets. Multiple division or multi tiered organizations would be challenged.

Primarily it is used by the Finance department alone. We used to have access for other managers, but they didn't use it. We use MIP for our accounting software, and recently switched from their payroll system to another.
  • Financial reporting
  • Account reporting
  • Customized Reports
  • Payroll set up is very tricky.
  • Inter-location transfers are complicated.
  • Most changes are not done with the service teams, but outsourced to third parties.
Having the option to change the account coding structure is great, but it's not good when you want to migrate a large amount of data from one structure to another. The account coding structure is fantastic when coding income and expenses to grants. We're able to pull a lot of detail very easily.

MIP is utilized as our management tool for the large non-profit foundation.
  • MIP allows the foundation to easily print year-end donor statements.
  • MIP allows for the users of the software to quickly input transactions.
  • In my opinion, MIP is not exclusively designed for the non-profit educational foundation world. It lacks the ability to track relationships and send automated communications.
Given the opportunity to advance the current product, I would recommend MIP Fund Accounting to a colleague. The product allows for a simple way to manage funds; however, it lacks the diversity to fully utilize the educational records retained by our institution.

MIP Fund accounting is our sole financial software. There is not a lot of software that is capable of correctly and accurately tracking and working with fund accounting. This is in part because there are not many businesses that have a need for this style of accounting. If you work with grants or the need to track and allocate funds across multiple divisions from multiple sources, you will probably run into the MIP line of products. MIP's customer service is decent. They show continual improvement and the desire to listen to their customers. They do still have a ways to go to have a fully polished product.
  • Fund Accounting.
  • Reporting, with additional modules.
  • Encrypted paperless documentation.
  • Has both cloud and local options.
  • Module and end user installation. The primary module prompts for updates if the local version does not match the server side and update is user friendly. The other attached modules do not and require the module to be uninstalled locally then be installed from the server to update.
  • Admin or full access to server locations is required for systems and modules to work.
  • Can import active directory groups but does not have live synchronization with active directory other then passwords. This can cause issues when removing and adding access using groups.
If you have a need for fund accounting, this is currently your best option. If you don't have that need, find something else. Add on modules that we use can give HR software, electronic timesheet and drill down reporting options that are decent to very good. I would not buy this software just for those. Taken as a whole they have the possibility of being a one stop HR and fiscal package.

We use MIP to support the accounting and financial management functions for the whole organization.
  • Robust system that can handle most any - well...any - non profit organizations needs.
  • Highly customizable reports.
  • Effective import and export ability for things that don't otherwise fit well or MIP doesn't do well.
  • Very ineffective integration with associated HR and timesheet modules.
  • Luckily import works well - as you best do budgeting (for example) outside of the system.
  • Hard to update legacy structure when things change.
Specifically suited for non-profits, NGOs, and government fund accounting.

MIP is used in our department only. We manage over 200 grant research accounts and many donation accounts. MIP helps us to keep tract of the budget and expenses for each account individually along with providing the best reports.
  • The detailed reporting and filtering for the accounts helps our researchers analyze and review their budgets and expense for progress reports to the agencies.
  • The only thing I would like to see is a way to filter inactive or deactivated reports when pulling in a large number of account numbers to review.
There is such a wide range of functions for many types of users. Being able to add modules needed to your specific needs and of course the incredible reporting abilities.

All functions of MIP is currently used by the Fiscal department. The monitoring department and program managers use the executive view feature of MIP. The encumbrance and budget reporting features are specifically effective across the organization when measuring program performance and outcomes to total expenditures. We have a fixed asset module that is excellent for tracking inventory across 7 locations.
  • The encumbrance module is excellent for tracking contract balances and providing reports for contract activity.
  • The capability to import information speeds up the process of mass updates.
  • I particularly like the ability to attach a scan of an original invoice directly to the entry. This is very helpful during monitoring or auditing visits.
  • Some of the reporting features need an added step. For instance, drill down function should allow you to see a specific transaction versus all transactions.
  • The encumbrance module does not reflect any voids or reversals of Accounts Payable transactions. If an entry is not made to de-obligate or re-obligate funds, it skews balances.
  • The reporting modules should allow for a projected expenditure column.
MIP is well suited for any organization. I'd specifically recommend it for any cost or fund accounting type of organization. It is very sophisticated software and would not be suited for smaller businesses.

MIP is our primary Accounting database for all our Financial needs as a non profit.
  • The allocation process within MIP is excellent.
  • MIP is able to handle complex non-profit processes and organizational structure with ease and reliabililty.
  • The reporting is excellent. I can get just about anything I want out in any format I want it.
  • The biggest drawback is the history. It doesn't have a historical storage component for certain parts of the system, such as point in time allocation tables or customer or vendor list changes.

MIP Fund Accounting is being used as the fund accounting solution for our non-profit agency. We use general ledger, A/P, and payroll functions. It is set up well to meet the needs of our grant-based agency as we have a number of funding sources that we must track. Also, the allocation module allows me to save a lot of time in this area and provides a good audit trail.
  • Fund accounting capabilities. MIP allows breakdowns by several different segments and allows you to drill down to get a variety of reports, depending on the individual needs of the user.
  • Allocation module. The allocation module makes our monthly allocations a much more stream-lined process and saves many hours of time. It automates this otherwise arduous process and makes it flow much better.
  • Tax reporting. Through AAtrix, MIP has made payroll tax reporting, both quarterly and yearly, a much less complicated process. The cost is extremely reasonable for the amount of time saved and the accuracy is increased because the information is pulled directly from the MIP accounting records.
  • Initially it can be complicated to set up reports or to modify the format once you have set it up.
  • Setting up security rights in the Administrative section can be a bit difficult to determine if a person has access to something they should have access to, but still keep them out of other areas.
  • There are some places where if you hit Enter instead of Tab, it takes you out of that window when you didn't intend to be out of it.
MIP is an ideal fund accounting solution for small to mid-sized non-profits that have multiple funding sources. It provides a lot more functionality than Quickbooks without being ridiculously expensive. It can be tailored for a variety of users and different kinds of non-profit entities. It is very suitable for a grant-based agency such as ours.

It is being used by the accounting department to do everything in our department. It is used for A/R, A/P, Bank Recs, basically everything that we do is through MIP.
  • MIP allows us to add accounts and set up new customers with ease. This allows for a wide variety of customers and allows us to be more precise with our invoices in the system.
  • The ability to go down to the funder allows us to help specify where it is we receive funds from.
  • The reports generated from MIP allow us to communicate to others across the company what is going on within each program.
  • Creating new statement formats can be tricky. There's no way to be able to use a total as part of another section without messing up the statement
  • There is no warning system that allows us to catch things until someone notices them.
MIP has been great for us. There are really almost no problems with it and it has been very flexible with what we do at our company.
