I would have to say that at this point, I do prefer Microsoft. Better product, a much more handsome and intuitive interface. Plus, I find Microsoft products are not only better suited to learning their functionality, but that you also benefit from the larger talent pool of professionals who are skilled/knowledgeable with this product.

MIP was the best product for the price. My first accounting software experience was with Great Plains and while there were certain functionalities that were easier to use, MIP was overall easier to learn and use in a short amount of time. MIP suits all of our current needs and most likely our future needs as well.

I don't know when the decision was made, it was years ago. However, we are not looking for anything new and are sufficiently happy with the product that we are not looking now and have no plans to look for a new product.

Before MIP I used a system designed for a "for profit" company. We had much difficulty adapting it to the level of detail we must report out to funders. Doing the IRS 990 was a major headache. When we started to search for non-profit software MIP Fund Accounting stood heads above the others offering similar software.

I feel it's comparable to American Fundware. I prefer Blackbaud's report structure. It's much easier to be in a report area and navigate to the report required without having to start from the beginning. MIP has been in use by our agency prior to my arrival 10 years ago. It has been able to fill the needs we currently have.

We chose a solution designed for non-profits because we are a non-profit - easy decision. We started with MIP in 2012 - I am sure the other options we considered at that time have drastically improved their platforms since we reviewed them.

It was the right option at the time we converted to it (2009). We have since seen other online options that look good but are very costly.
Prior to MIP we used Solomon (a Microsoft product) and have previewed Intacct.

Once again, MIPS' ability to track different Funds and relatively easy learning curve set it apart from the competition. Plus other products were far more expensive and would have required us to acquire more modules than we needed. MIPS allowed us to only purchase the modules that best fit our needs.

Use academicworks to track and process scholarship awards. MIP could not handle this.
Use Concur Travel and Expense to process credit card charges and expense reimbursements.
Use Microix for the entire budget process workflow.

This organization has been using MIP Fund Accounting for over 20 years. We started with the DOS version and subsequently switched to the windows version. We have considered other software such as quickbooks and AccPac over the years as well. However, we have found that MIP Fund Accounting is best suited since it is designed specifically for non-profits and caters for large and small organizations. We are a fairly small organization but have the capacity to grow very quickly based on the availability of donor resources.

We felt MIP was the best choice because it demonstrated the ability to better meet the various reporting requirements we encounter as a non-profit. The pricing was competitive and we determined that the software was best suited to meet future needs. The support was an important factor in our decision and this has been a proven asset. Bottom line, functionality, customer service, price and the ability to scale up as our organization grows were the determining factors.

Still comparing; waiting on the Altus demo. Found it very interesting that my salesperson at MIP refused to provide our new management team with a demo. We felt like we already bought it; there was nothing in it for him so why should he bother. The answer would be MIP will lose the income stream of our maintenance contracts if/when we migrate.

It's a complete solution. Previously, my organization was using some payable software with another hookup software from a third party but it had a lot of glitches; after that i don't even imagine to have a software with no support on ground and using other software hookups for payable and asset management.
