Companies can't remove reviews or game the system. Here's why

MIP is a great product for medium to small size county governments and businesses that need a good fund accounting, payroll and HR system for a good price. MIP will aid you in modernizing your outdated systems and help integrate these areas for you. MIP has a number of modules from HR to digital time clocks to fit the needs of your company. I think you would be hard pressed to find another system with these features for the price.

It is well suited for any size company as it has all of the functionalities that is needed to run an effective accounting/finance office. Most of the modules are very easy to use and complete all the tasks needed to get the desired result. I can't see any scenario where it is not appropriate to have the fund accounting system.

Any non profit that has multiple programs or funding sources would find this software perfect for their needs in both collecting and reporting financial data. There is a robust reporting area with the ability to set up specific formatting.

MIP Fund Accounting is a true accounting software - you need to know the offset accounts for transactions. It is not like another program where you simply "write a check" and then the software prepares the entries behind the scenes. By having a software that is at a higher level, it teaches individuals to learn more in accounting, instead of having the software do it for you. I also like that you cannot simply go in and "delete" a transaction like you can with other software systems.

If you are a place where you need to produce a quick invoice then MIP Fund Accounting is not the product for you. It does not have a great point of sale attribute to it as far as producing an invoice on the fly.

If you want to bill customers at the end of the month MIP Fund Accounting is much better suited for this type of billing.

Non-profits who are looking for accounting software will be very pleased with MIP for non-profits. Not sure about business accounting as I have not used it in that capacity. We also use reports from MIP to build spreadsheets. Sometimes information from multiple reports are used in a single spreadsheet that require specific information from more that one report.

No - overkill, too expensive, too complicated
  • Small Budget
  • Simple structure - few programs, funding linked one to one to programs.
Yes- powerful and flexible
  • Many government contracts (especially large ones)
  • Moderately Complex funding structure.
Maybe - Very complex projects and very large organization

I primarily work with the AP section of the program. One of the biggest issues we've encountered is the difficulty in fixing entry errors after posting. We've had a couple of incidents where an incorrect entry should have been simple to fix, but wasn't. When reversing an entry error, the number of steps needed is too much (get the session id, the doc number, enter a new session, reverse the entry, exit, new session, enter the corrected doc) - it would be nice if this could all be done in one screen (like within Vendor Balances).

For a small to medium business I would certainly recommend MIP Fund Accounting. I probably would tell them to go with the hosted version if they did not have any internal tech support to have their own server. They would not have to worry about updates etc. It's great that when MIP does come out with a new version it is very easy to implement for the users on a one to one basis. I really like the Auto Backup features anytime you logout of the database....this ensures you always have a recent backup of what you just worked on.

I can see where MIP would be a great tool for retail or operations that use a complicated GL string. If MIP would talk to other medical software it would make our lives a lot easier and would eliminate the need for double entry.

Having worked in the same industry for over 25 years it is difficult to speak to industries where MIP is less appropriate. It works well in the Non-Profit industry. The chat support is exceptional and very helpful in times of trouble.

MIP is well suited for any small or medium-sized non-profit or government organization. With MIP, an organization would have the potential to have MIP to process payroll, manage procurement and associated workflows, create budgets for the entire organization, and do all the necessary financial reporting required. It has the ability to be configured to meet the needs of almost any organization. It might not be the best suited product for a business that wants to integrate a number of other systems it currently has to MIP. MIP has had procurements businesses such as Microix that have built-in integrations to the system and outside of this, it would be costly and time-consuming to build out a separate procurement system as it does not have strong integration capabilities at this time.

MIP Fund Accounting is well suited for a grant based non-profit with minimal membership capacity. Organizations that need very detailed information will find MIP extremely effective in documenting transactions in a very robust and transparent manner.

MIP Fund Accounting is very poorly suited for large volumes of transactions that need to be processed simultaneously, such as invoicing thousands of members in an individual batch.

Bank Reconciliation is my favorite module. I like the way it flows and the way the various tabs are identified (I may just enjoy this part of my job more). I do find that correcting errors after posting is very frustrating and could use improvement.

Well-suited for basic accounting, I would give it an 8. Drill-down would be nice on the general ledger to be able to look at the original entry. Maintaining the year codes and distribution codes is much too involved-this needs to be streamlined. Would be nice to be able to update information on encumbrances and purchase orders prior payment. The accounts receivable module is a bit of a nightmare-we don't use the invoicing function as it is too involved for our company. While the Accounting function deserves and 8, I would only give the payroll function about a 4.5-sorry.

I would recommend this software for advanced accounting users. It would be less appropriate for inexperienced clerks. Also, I found a lot of useful tips and tricks during the live training that I would have otherwise missed. It is a great reporting tool, with the ability to isolate some classes of assets and generate different report scenarios.
