Mitel MiCollab Softphone That Replaces Your Desk Phone!

We use Mitel MiCollab for end users when they are working from home due to the pandemic. It has become more mainstream for end-users to use MiCollab at work as well as they prefer it over the traditional desk phone. This has helped greatly due to our phone system and end-users getting calls from the operators.
  • Easy to use interface for non technical users.
  • Lots of options to setup for end users.
  • Headsets are comfortable and better than old handsets with desk phones. MiCollab allows users more comfortable phone calls.
  • Call quality is great.
  • Chat feature is great.
Cons
  • Would be nice to see phone numbers on Voicemail as it only lists time and internal phone numbers as external numbers are listed as unknown and not everyone leaves a callback number.
  • Allow users to change settings for audio and mic without having to be on an active call.
  • The sound sometimes is an issue where end users cannot hear the other person or vice versa. Maybe a specific driver would solve the issue?
MiCollab is great for a large office to get users working from home and being able to use their home phone or cell phone like the desk phone at the office. This allows our live operators the ability to see if the end-user is on an active call before sending a new call to them. If you have a very small company of fewer than 10 people this might not be worth the investment as cell phones would work just as well.

Mitel MiCollab - Can be great if you have proper support from hosted services!

We recently moved away from Mitel MiCollab, due to lack of support from local vendors for the product. We had utilized it from 2010-2022, and mostly supported it ourselves - internally. The problems we experienced currently - which lead to us choosing a different VOIP provider was lack of expertise from the phone companies "supporting" it for us. Our own technicians, seemingly, knew how to better manage the system than the company we were paying each month to do so.
  • Voicemail To Email
  • Creating custom buttons tied to specific user profiles
  • Hotdesking - allowing users to log in to phones district-wide.
  • Record an active call with just the push of a button
  • Teleworker phones - allowing phones to be programmed for off-site use with only a PoE injector/internet access needed.
Cons
  • Training of local providers needs a 100% overhaul. Our local providers didn't seem to know how to fix most issues we encountered - unless they called an off-site contact who was rarely available when needed.
  • Remove the need for local controllers (I have heard newer versions of this software have gone this way - but still require the end-user to host a VM on hardware they own)
If you're in an area that has highly trained technicians to support the Mitel MiCollab product - I think your experience will likely be much better than ours. In my opinion, Frontier (and Integra before them) were the worst, and we do not look back on that experience with much happiness.

At my organization, we utilized it to replace our Cisco BE6000 and Cisco Jabber. As consultants, we utilized it as a VoIP product of choice to deliver client solutions. It provides voice and collaboration as well as allows for easy remote access to the VoIP system for excellent mobility capabilities.
  • Easy deployment to end users, which assists with client deployment. Their email that provides access to download the software via multiple methods helps tremendously on the consulting side.
  • Easy interface for collaboration and voice. End users like the clean interface and ease of use.
  • An all-in-one solution for voice and collaboration. It delivers voicemail, chat, voice services, and mobility.
Cons
  • SIP registration can be difficult at times and tricky during the first time setup. I would recommend taking the MiCollab class offered through Mitel as well as having experience with SIP and Wireshark.
  • If you need to have a clustered MiCollab setup for SIP (one MiCollab server on LAN, the other on DMZ), this can add to the cost. It would be nice if they offered an all-in-one solution with a single MiCollab server.
This is suited to any environment that wants to improve their voice and collaboration capabilities. I've deployed well in single-site and multi-site deployments.

We had a Mitel phone system and replaced our online meetings with Mitel MiCollab to integrate the whole thing. It is used by the entire organization for internal meetings. We have a good number of remote employees and offices in other countries so we are required to do a considerable amount of collaborating via online meetings.
  • For a user, once you get everything set up, attendance is pretty seamless.
  • This provides easy access for meetings that involve only a call.
  • We use it also to share screens and information and it works well for this.
Cons
  • I found the set up to be less than intuitive. And, it involved a lot of steps. But, now I seem to be good to go.
  • I don't host many meetings at all but those who do present seem to have issues with recording from time to time.
  • Reviewing a recording can sometimes be a challenge because of the set up and the type of file involved. We have a lot of recordings and I end up watching a good number of them. I wish that part were easier.
As I said, I find it to be fairly seamless when used for only a call. It works fairly well for calls where the user must share a screen. It seems to work less well for instances where a recording is needed. But, we do get the recordings and we are able to watch them.

We have implemented this company-wide and have been using it for about a year now. We are a very phone-heavy company and this helps the users to manage their time/calls more efficiently. It also helps with conference calling and mobile use - making our salespeople more efficient as they can be reached at almost any time and location
  • See who is using the phone at a given time
Cons
  • Easy to use pop-up window alerts you to incoming calls, lets you transfer to VM or other users, helpful for conference calling
  • Has chat feature to tag someone when they are on the phone, or you just don't want to call
  • App for smartphone allows for desk phone to cell phone collaboration
Excellent for the receptionist - allows easy transfer and viewing of incoming calls. The chat feature is helpful as well. Transfer and conference options are easy to use click option. Good for sales as well - easy to sync phone and smartphone so they are never out of reach. Also good for checking message and calls that may have been missed
