What is Ivanti Neurons for MDM?

MobileIron, acquired by Ivanti, supports enterprise security with a mobile-centric security platform for the Everywhere Enterprise. In the Everywhere Enterprise, corporate data flows freely across devices and servers in the cloud, empowering workers to be productive anywhere they need to work. To secure access and protect data across this perimeter-less enterprise, MobileIron leverages a zero trust approach, which assumes bad actors are already in the network and secure access is determined by a “never trust, always verify” model.

MobileIron’s platform combines unified endpoint management (UEM) capabilities with passwordless MFA (Zero Sign-On) and mobile threat defense (MTD) to validate the device, establish user context, verify the network, and detect and remediate threats to ensure that only authorized users, devices, apps, and services can access business resources in a “work from everywhere” world. The vendor states that over 20,000 organizations, including the world’s largest financial institutions, intelligence agencies, and other highly regulated companies, have chosen MobileIron to enable a seamless and secure user experience in the Everywhere Enterprise.

MobileIron has become the go-to solution for over 300 organizations seeking to effectively manage and control their mobile devices for business use. Users have found that it tackles a wide range of challenges, including compliance, security, deployment, and administration. One of its main strengths lies in its ability to deploy line of business apps as well as third-party apps to all devices, ensuring both device security and the deployment of required applications. This feature has been highly valued by organizations managing fleets of iPads and other mobile devices globally. Furthermore, MobileIron assists with better control over access, security, compliance, inventory, policies, and enrollment by providing remote management capabilities and facilitating document pushes and application installations from a single point. These functionalities are particularly beneficial for pilots, aircrew members, sales teams, field support personnel, and other mobile-focused workforces who require secure government data handling or easy management of operational devices. Across various industries, MobileIron has proven itself as a reliable tool for managing mobile devices' applications, security policies, provisioning across multiple countries, and adhering to NIST standards for security and compliance. It has successfully provided secure access to corporate email, calendars, custom-built applications on mobile devices across multiple offices while maintaining password controls and synchronizing contacts and calendars with Lotus Notes on BYOD phones. As businesses increasingly adopt BYOD policies or manage mixed fleets of managed devices and BYOD scenarios, MobileIron provides features like kiosk mode integration with Android Enterprise to overcome associated challenges. It ensures the safe handling of data and attachments while preventing unauthorized sharing and enables convenient distribution of applications company-wide. The software's asset tracking capabilities have been commended for helping organizations keep tabs on phone numbers, installed apps, and the overall security status of their devices. Not only does MobileIron excel at securing company cell phones but it also efficiently manages user access to business resources while ensuring encryption for emails. This level of device management is crucial when securing company-issued smartphones or managing mobile phones and iPads across an entire organization. MobileIron is trusted by hospitals and colleges to guarantee compliance with HIPAA regulations and provide secure access to email and internal mobile apps, streamlining registration processes with its dedicated support team. Additionally, it serves as a valuable MDM tool for organizations looking to develop and maintain their enterprise mobile applications securely. With a primary focus on providing enhanced security for mobile devices and maintaining secure connections with company servers, MobileIron has been successfully implemented in various industries, adding an extra layer of protection for mission-critical data.

The platform is being transitioned as the gateway to secure access for email and all internal mobile apps. MobileIron has been instrumental in making sure the registration process is as streamlined as possible. There is a dedicated support resource and it makes the implementation so much easier to evangelize.
  • AppTunneling - No more VPN and the experience is native to the user already.
  • Using Divide for containerization for the Android devices makes it easy to support the different variants of Android OS.
  • App management is a breeze.
  • Reporting should be easier than utilizing the Assemble tool.
  • There should be a way to establish access to a label only. The use case being you have a label that is your Sales Team and only specific Admins can see that label and its configuration.
  • Better administration of OS X hardware.
MobileIron is at its best when there is a dedicated support resource on premise. This is normally the reason there is disdain within the environment. The frustration stems from not having a viable resource to contribute to the progression of the environment.
  • They have great business development and their established partnerships fully enhance the platform.
  • When there is a dedicated resource, the support is stellar.
  • Verify with all available sources, because on the rare occasion that they over promise, you don't want to be the last to know and realize.
MobileIron is much easier to implement and the interface less overwhelming.

These are mainly corporate owned devices. MobileIron allowed us to eliminate the use of Mobile VPN by leveraging tunneling via the Sentry. We use containerization for printing from iPad's, managerial sign-off's and corporate dropbox access. We have also experienced a considerable decline in lost devices and attribute this to the inability to register a device after a factory reset command has been sent to the device. Sharepoint access and the availability of the Microsoft Office Suite have been instrumental in the heavy adoption rate.

The platform is very solid in that I have yet to encounter problems where the mobile environment has been impacted negatively. One can easily reverse engineer their steps or the view device view from the console gives an extensive view of the device.
It is online based, after learning content you can take a test and if you don't pass you get two other chances to pass. Once you pass the test you can print out your certification or save it.
I have been using MobileIron for years. As with any company, they suffered the constraints of growth. I don't normally deal with call-in support, but in the few instances that I have the level of support has gotten inherently better. My usual support experience is from a dedicated individual(s) from professional services. This is mainly because of the size of the deployment. This offers a resource that is thoroughly familiar with your environment. Another benefit is that you can contact them directly, which eliminates the handing off and starting over with multiple individuals. As a company they are extremely committed in their support structure and making it better. They send out audits and welcome any interaction and if there is a complaint they follow up with efficacy.
