Companies can't remove reviews or game the system. Here's why

There is always room for improvement, but I have personally not run into any roadblocks when it comes to segmentation. Whether you are firing based on a location, demographic, or weather, Monetate seems to work as expected for our team.

I really liked Monetate's ability to segment users by their location (the most relevant criteria for our company). When I worked with the tool we were gradually switching users of company's website from the version running on one CMS to another one, and presenting them with the properly looking promotions at the right spot on the page was extremely important.

It's great, but there was significantly more we need to do pull in offline information than we anticipated. If we did it again, I'd ask more questions and vet that more in the process of deciding which tool to use. I don't think it would have changed my choice because Monetate was the clear front runner, but it would have been nice to know.

Monetate allows you to target demographics, regions, new/returning users, and other defining characteristics. We've been able to target our customers based on previous purchases or browsing history as well in order to provide a true custom experience for each user. This has been helpful for us to grow as a company.

Segmenting through Monetate is very indepth. It is even better when we can layer in our CRM data or 3rd party data from BlueKai. There have been very few times when we couldn't find a target we were using. We use segmenting in nearly every campaign and never have a problem finding the right segment groups for experiences.

We don't run a lot of segmentation or experience targeting on our site. Each of our customers is very unique, and what we really need is a very personalized one to one tool that looks at each visitor and gives them an experience tailored to their unique history with our site. Monetate seems well suited for brands that can segment based on one or two top level criteria.

As mentioned before, we really appreciate the product, but found the lack of more complex targeting logic to be an issue. Creating a target is intuitive and straight forward. We found that some types of targeting we needed didn't work, namely reading URL variables for some reason didn't work or were not as reliable as it should. And also trying to read variables out of a localStore object didn't work, but that was an advanced case and it's ok for the product not to have that capability.

Monetate can target experiences to any possible metric (allegedly, I haven't used 'age segment' nor could I verify its accuracy if I had), including the ever-important device type for today's responsive web. However, it can only set these targets on experience creation; it would be great if you could break down result data by these segments later. I shouldn't have to make 3 experiences with the exact same 'what' just to give 'who's of mobile, tablet, and desktop just to have that data separate.

There are so many different ways in which you can segment or target users of your site. From age to income to location there are so many ways to separate users. A lot of times you don't think to segment by these types of users but it makes sense in a lot of messaging.

It is hard to preview or verify some of the tests, especially if it is outside the home country, or it requires caching on the site. Additionally, using the IP filter for my office wide IP does not execute well, sometimes working to target my IP, and sometimes not.
