If you can write it, it can test it! It's not the easiest to work with if you don't know css or HTML, so if you have little experience there make sure you have a design and dev team to assist you. We hire a company that assists my company with these efforts.

We have been able to test appropriately and to high standards - it's a very strong tool. It allows you to build bespoke actions and analytic metrics which is great. It appears to work well across devices so the customer sees a consistent journey when falling into tests.

Great testing platform

Monetate has many different varieties of testing that can be done with unique components based on what your goals are. I didn't give them a 10/10 rating because the platform is a bit difficult to understand at first and we've learned that testing can slow down our site. It's something that we are working on with the company today.

Monetate takes testing very seriously and upholds testing best practices. Client services are quick to step in if a test is not set up to their standards. Any actions or experiences they personally set up are validated by their team.

Again, the tool is very user friendly and flexible, allowing us to test a variety of changes - whether it be creative, functionality or offers. And these tests can be turned off and on within seconds, to allow us to optimize conversion without hurting margin and so forth.

We've never had any problem with the A/B testing aspect of Monetate. It always works great. If there's any negative aspect at all, it's that there are almost too many things that you can test and too many criteria that you can test for. It is a little daunting at first, but works well once you get the hang of it.

A/B testing is solid, as it should be, but the limitation on full page testing has always been problematic. They do have various ways around this, but they always seem to come with a caveat. Set up of tests is intuitive. Reporting is not good.

Monetate testing capabilities are great, very complete and the different types of testing (classic A/B, multi-variate, dynamic) and extensible action builder make it a very flexible product. The only issue our team has encountered is the fact that it misses more complex targeting logic, which can be solved with named segments, but it is not ideal.

There are a few thing that could be improved, like comparing groups in test with more than 2, or being able to break down results by device type/category after the fact (rather than having to make separate tests for mobile and desktop from the start). But overall Monetate has the best overall A/B testing of all products I've encountered.

It is great for simple testing such as banner replacement etc., but unable to handle larger tests such as changing the navigation. We end up needing to hire another agency to run those tests. It also does not make it easy to set up tests for mobile, which is increasingly more important than desktop.
